Well both their unders teams took the gas, with the premier side not even making the grand final, With only 8 in it, and the bottom two absolutely hopeless, it was that hard to make finals. They used to dominate a 12 team comp not so long ago.I would have thought their unders success or otherwise was more important than a social comp of thirds football.
I am guessing MIO that your adoration stems from your childhood of never beating them ?

We actually had a OK run against them in my time at school (The '96 victory on the Roach was particularly enjoyable as a young fella)... I assume that what you mean by childhood. U/19s too for that matter. But no; happy to tip my cap when a club does well. (However if you are looking for haters there are plenty on the boards). Obviously I was completely stoked to see the 19s results but if you look at Dela's run of continued 19s success I think it demonstrates that this does not necessarily flow through. For my part I hope it does!!!!

Xavs unders have had a great year. Feilded two teams and made a prelim and a GF.
3rds are not social teams. Plenty of guys in 3rds at Xavs would love to be in 2's or 1's and try to. Many would get a senior gig at other premier clubs.
Clubbies is pretty social. I assume that is what you meant.

I thought that might get a reaction ! I was guessing about victories against them you played in not watched! Were there any?The Skob guys to me seen have a complex about xavier which I have also gleaned from you.

De la , a regular in A grade finalist over the past 5/10 years , so I would suggest the flow through has helped them quite a bit .

A thirds Comp where clubs play teams from their own club is a farce . As I said , xavs used to dominate a very strong premier unders comp once upon a time .

Give clubs a choice of either an unders team or a thirds team and see what they would choose .

Gosh I wish I had played in '96. No. Merely watching. If you mean as a schoolboy we had a couple of victories but beaten terribly when it counted (1st - XVIII). I think you may be the one with the complex....A club has representation from in the 3 GFs, a small tip of the cap and it send you into a frenzy (I note I have moved from adoration to complex....what progress!!!). You may need to speak to someone old chap.

On another note I think the appointment of Shannon Grant is a good one. Terrific footballer and good coaching record. Good catholic too (believe he went to the now defunct Cathedral). Looking forward to Sunday. Would love to see the Ts register thier first flag....would be fabulous to see the young men who suffered the brutal GF loss in '15 bounce back.

See everyone on the boards in '17.

This is a really average post, barely makes sense. So you ignore the fact that Xavs have their 4 open age teams in GF's, and instead focus on the 19's missing a GF...righto. Maybe there were 2 better teams in it this year in the unders? Would you only rate a successful year for them as having every team they put on the park make the GF?

Make no mistake, I dislike them as much as anyone and MIO might as well, but I respect their continual success. You're just being ignorant if you can't acknowledge that and instead attack a poster for pointing it out.

No not ignoring that fact at all. I am merely pointing out that thirds success, in my view, isn't worth blowing your trumpet about given the nature of that comp. I was merely pointing out that I wouldn't include thirds success as part of describing them as a great club but I rate the unders (particularly premiers) more important. Have you seen the make up of that thirds comp?

They would choose both of course. In premier sections we have 1's, 2's and 3's. And all clubs love a strong unders team.
Xavs won a flag in unders last year. 3rd this year. So they are still strong. It's been a long time since they were dominant in unders though. I think only 3 flags this decade.

Moving on to this week:

OT's - $1.75
Xavs - $2.05

Things are tightening up. Jase's wet weather set to suit Xavs contested stoppage game.

Scribulous FC may jump on even bigger with these latest odds...

Well, I would say comments such as "what a mighty club" and "they are a serious organisation" as more that a small tip of the cap. Your subsequent comments have just proved my suspicions about the Xavier complex a lot of your generation have.

I wish Shannon Grant well, as on paper it present as a plum job.

Old Xav's to bully OT's from before the bounce.

Xav's to have a player sit on Iezzi to try and stop his deadly foot skills that can cut them open. Especially when he receives through the corridor.

Pacconi to go to Goss to blanket him. Will probably get done for holding the man a couple of times, only if the umpire is watching though.

In my mind it could be as simple as who has more influence out of Goss and Iezzi to determine the result.

OX not what they use to be, so OT by 5 to makeup for the heartbreak of 2013 and 2015.

Yep have seen it, it's ridiculous. The VAFA know it too. 'The bias' chat aside, HQ would hate seeing the premier 3rds grand finalists this weekend. Have heard there will be some significant changes coming to the make up of it next year, including talk of the stronger premier thirds teams playing senior level division football as 1 option considered.

Back to this weekend, agree the wet will benefit Xavs though hopefully with Fri/Sat/Sun looking a bit better it shouldn't have too big an impact. Reckon it's the year for the T's, unless Goss or Handley is let off the chain and kicks a bag.

Pacconi is quite lucky with how much he gets away with. His defensive game is to hold on, umps miss a lot.

Depends on how you measure success. While plenty of clubs have come and gone, those strong U19 teams have sustained De La in 'A' grade for over a decade. While we have gone close a few times, the ultimate success has eluded us. But that is due to a lack of 'elite' top end talent, not a lack of quality youngsters coming through. I can't remember the last senior B&F winner who did not come through our 19s.

And agree re the Thirds. While it might be good for the club to bank some silverware it means absolutely bugger all from a future development perspective.

I don't think it's about banking silverware. More just allowing payers 50-100 who aren't 17-19 years old to play footy. And then, why not play as well as you can.
Doesn't hinder development.
It's not 3rds or Unders.

Takes resources and focus to put them out each week when their results are absolutely meaningless.

It is the Thirds. Hence my comment “Re the Thirds”. (insert confused emoji here)

And I never said it hindered development. Just that in the scheme of senior football it is largely irrelevant.

Congratulations to Jake Williams on winning the 2016 Woodrow Medal - exceptional player and a ripping bloke. Could have easily gone to a cash club post Collingwood VFL, but chose to play with his mates back at De La

Rooster - You might need to build a trophy cabinet at Dairy Bell with the amount of Woodrow's the club has picked up over the last decade!
