So it's the new year. To provide a bit of a recap on some confirmed and rumoured ins and outs to get the conversation going again. I've missed a few as this is just what i can recall off the top of my head and skimming back through the thread. Happy for others to fill in the gaps.

You can also add some more ex-AFL talent to SKOBs.

A little birdie informed me that Clint Bartram and Daniel Bell (both ex-Melbourne) are also headed to St Kevins, as well as Luke Andrews from Box Hill (VFL).

Daniel Bell was advised never to play football again and i'm pretty sure received an AFL/Melbourne payout for brain damage. That's a lot to risk for a game of football. Similarly Bartram had a degenerative knee condition that would have him looking at a knee replacement if he played football again. (Knee replacements are generally not looked at for anyone under the age of 50 because they are a once only deal and last around 30 years. Again a lot to risk

Re someone like a Bartram, I would imagine playing Ammo footy and training two nights a week is a lot less stress on the body than being a full time robot at an AFL club.
David Loats had the worst knees ever seen at VAFA level and dominated for 5 years.
The average knee replacement lasts 10-15 years then can be replaced.

True re the knee replacement however a revision or replacement of one is a horrible procedure that is why they try to avoid it. You are right though- local footy would be a lot less damaging.

Just having a quick look at the points system, Skevs would be at nearly half their points allocation off just a handful of players if i'm getting the points allocation right.

1 pt - 'Home grown player' - has played more than 40 games at the aligned junior club up to and including U17, or has not played any football at all over the past 3 seasons.

6 pts - has played at least 1 game of AFL football in the past 3 seasons
5 pts - has played at least 5 senior games of either VFL, SANFL or WAFL footy in the current season, or any of the past 3 seasons (not in total, but by season)
4 pts - has played TAC Cup (5 games in a season in any of the past 3 seasons), VFL ressies (5 games in a season in any of the past 3 seasons), this also includes NEAFL and TSL. Also includes 'premium' community players, i.e., those that have had a top 10 comp B&F finish, a top 5 club B&F finish, or been a club leading goal kicker (min. 40 goals - excludes finals and is senior comps only) in the past season. Also includes anyone that has played in the VAFA rep side in the past season. (I can already hear Jascave's mind ticking over about how this will affect player availability for the rep team!!)
3 pts - senior community player. Has played more senior games than reserves games at the same club in any of the past 3 seasons.
2 pts - has played more ressies than seniors in the previous season.

If a player changes clubs and will be in the same comp competing against their former club, a 1 point penalty will be applied to the players points allocation. This penalty also applies to any player that has played in at least 3 other clubs over the past 3 seasons.

I believe that the 'junior club' is going to be whatever the VAFA club decides to nominate, so i'm not sure how some merged entities (like SBMT for example) would handle this. I would assume that in this instance they can include more than one 'junior club'. Then there'll need to be a completely separate ruling for the Uni Clubs, as i'm not sure what they'll do there.

Funny you post this as i had a very similar thought this morning as soon as I heard the result, but more along the lines of wondering how many recently retired/delisted AFL guys will now be lining up to become an Essendon top-up player. A few leagues will be impacted by this, and some clubs more than others.

Having said this, we are talking about 17 players across the AFL that need to be replaced. I would have thought that these would most likely come from the state leagues rather than local comps, even for those that have just been delisted/retired from AFL.

They signalled their intent last year with top-up players. I'd imagine a senior(older) ruckman will be a must and if willing would imagine that would be Jamar, Warnock or maybe that giant from SA who they looked at least year. I would be more than surprised if Cordy gets a gig. If imagine they will ring in 6-8 mature players who have been thereabouts in AFL or state leagues as the club will need leadership. The Dominator's boys. Having a quick look, Clay and Tomi both float between seniors and the development league for Port so not sure of the impact they will have, while Marc played for Noble Park in the EFL as a senior player.

In terms of local footy, it's probably the EDFL hit hardest by this. I think 3-4 suspended players lace them up in Premier division over there.
