I just find it a little ironic that with all this fuss about whose got the best list with influx of ex-AFL or VFL playing and coaching talent, and claims that the competition is far stronger, etc SKOB and Bernies are stuck in the gates, OMs are already on the board, and I'm not seeing much impact from the blow ins - whilst an old genuine schoolboy club is just ticking the wins over.

Frankly if the senior coach at the Pit is getting paid a quarter of what he is rumoured to be on, he's not delivering much value (yet) for the Snowdogs

May need to tighten them right in on Flag betting. Last weeks little hiccup should be well and truly forgotten after today.

On behalf of BigFooty, may I congratulate the 88.3 Southern FM program 'VAFA Sunday' on their 25th year of the show.

For a show to have lasted that long is remarkable when you consider they started the program in 1991 during the analog radio era, and Southern FM had just began transmitting their radio station. 25 years later, they're still there.

To give you an idea of what happened in 1991, the year 'VAFA Sunday' began their program consider this:

-De La Salle won the A Section (now William Buck Premier) premiership over North Old Boys in one of the all-time great grand finals. Ormond, going for their 5th flag in a row finished 4th.
-Western Australia won the 1991 Australian Amateur Football Carnival. The VAFA defeated Tasmania but lost to SA and WA
-Phil Stevens was the VAFA CEO

Sorry Jase but it may once have been a program worth a listen. To be candid it has been an embarrassment for years. The VAFA coverage on Inner FM leaves it for dead.

Made of pretty stern stuff the Bellers. 2 men down within 15 minutes and had to peg back a decent Xavs lead. Probably should have won by more had it not been for some wayward kicking. Might have come at a cost with what looks like a couple of long-term injuries.

Foolish to write of SKOBs just yet. Saw them last week and they were impressive. A team with that much talent is sure to hit their straps at some stage.

Sometimes to get most effect it's best to make a point when the counter argument is at its weakest. Preseason there was much awe and excitement about the improvement in the lists of OX and SKOB and expectations that they along with Blues would rise to join St Bernards as clear front runners.

Now (at the moment) that seems to be premature jubilation as both my two faves in OT and DLS are doing exactly what I thought they'd do - lead the competition using home grown talent.

Two rounds in is very early, but that's two rounds more evidence of actual reality than was the case during pre-season. Now SKOB host Xavs and Bernies host OT. Losses to the home sides in those fixtures would see them slump to 0-3.

A couple of pretty important early season games coming up next weekend.

Quite so, Rooster. However, even at 0 -2 you have shown against two of the fancied sides you are a serious challenger – even at this very early stage.

He’s no mug either. Played a lot of senior VFL footy and was VC for a time as well. Would expect to score from there but to be fair the breeze was a bit tricky and De La missed a heap of easy shots themselves in the last.

A similar situation like that happened in 1996, where Simon Meehan was shown the door after a very poor start by the 1995 reigning premiers. Nick Bourke took over...and guided Old Xaverians to a premiership.

Must say it's pleasing to see sides like the bellers, Cardinals and hedgeburners who are developing from within rather than depending on buy-ins doing well.

That said, it's early days yet and SKOB still has plenty of ability in their ranks.

Nothing is impossible in this comp but gentleman, it's round 2..... Long way to go. SKOB start is surprising. Maybe a few too many egos in the team?... Or believing in their own publicity that success is guaranteed.

Spare me the ins and outs...thats irrelevant. On their performance, Bernies will struggle. On what they dished up, finals are not an option...

Spare me the ins and outs...thats irrelevant. On their performance, Bernies will struggle. On what they dished up, finals are not an option...

I have a slightly contrary view to the comment that SKOB’s lacked endeavour, enthusiasm and spirit, at least in respect to the Rd 1 game. Approaching time on in the last quarter scores were level. They were impressive all day and I can tell you that De La had to play a whole lot better in Rd 1 to beat St Kevins that they did on Saturday night.

The difference in ‘A’ grade is you don’t get an easy game. Obviously they were up for Rd 1 but if you are slightly off you get punished. They will feel the full force of the Old Xavs wrath this weekend. I also note that SKOBs had 6 changes to the Round 1 side. Gilham away but not sure if the others were omitted, injured or otherwise. I know they have a couple on VFL lists but don’t believe they had any called up.

I think what some people fail to remember is that when ex AFL /VFL players hit the VAFA they dont appreciate how hard it will be. They dont always get the ball kicked to them, not always "lace out" on the chest. They soon find quick smart that they will need to start chasing and generaly work a lot harder to get a kick.....

From my observations his games tended to be filled with empty stats across half back and through the middle. Take that in contrast to someone like Julian Rowe, who pulls his team across the line (or close to it) time and again and has a huge impact on the games that he plays.
