Round 2

Trinity - a bit too classy for blacks
St Bernard's - Will be back in the winners list
Blues - will bully OC at the Uni
SKOB - will be on the board after a tough one last week
Xavs - Match of the round. DLS to take it right up to Xavs but not quite up to the task.

Agree. Looks a simple 5/5 on paper.

We keep hearing Carey have added no-one, but for three quarters, took it right to OT and really should have been closer if not in front at 3/4 time. Given , the last quarter was not great, but the score is not reflective of what was a very competitive game up until then. Carey's pressure and run were causing OT significant problems, however OT's rebounding defence, and slick skills hurt Old Carey every time they turned it over
Carey have certainly added players, just not ex AFL veterans- Cust returning, Thompson ex Box Hill, and a few very quick, skilled youngsters, including one who played at PortM last year, and all who certainly held their own against a very good team that might have been missing Nicolosi, but did have Hamilton in. I also note Fremantle and Rowe are no longer on the 'departed list' that keeps being quoted. On the note of Nicolosi, I would say Smithwick and Crozier would be even more important to Old Carey. Sloan is obviously very much in the same boat as Hamilton, so when he plays, it will be a big bonus.
No doom and gloom at OC, and confident that they will not be holding up the bottom rungs.

Here here OC37, couldn't agree more. Canada certainly has it in for the Panthers and i so wanted to say re Rowe and Fremantle playing when all said they were gone.
Thought ruckman did very well and won most tap outs. Put Smithwick under those tap outs and you will see a lot more clearance out of the centre. Crozier in the back releases someone to do forward where we were too small last Saturday. Then there is Sloan who will play plenty of games.
Know it's the first round and everyone a bit rusty but OT certainly didn't blow the Panthers off the park. Not tipping top 4 but certainly not picking bottom 2.

Not at all. I have to tip someone for bottom 2. Have gone Carey and Melbourne. Seen a bit of Carey last few years and impressive. But look weaker on paper this year with a few guns gone. I'm thinking other teams are looking stronger. Happy to be proven wrong.
The games between Carey, Melbourne, Wesley and Blacks will be must wins for those 4 clubs. Lose against that pack and survival will be hard.
Whose your bottom 2 Carlton?

Out of curiosity, is there any way of finding out what points each team carried into the game on Saturday?

Without dredging up previous discussions on why they aren't carrying points, it would be interesting to see how say SKOBS went with Gilham, Bail, Strauss, Salopek all in their side.

Trinity to beat blacks by 20 points
St bernard should easily account for Collegians
Uni Blues by 8 goals over Carey
SKOBS imports should get the job done against OM's in a GF replay. 6 goal margin.
Game of the round. Xavs knocked off reigning A grade premiers, De La knocked off reigning B grade premiers. Based on that I'll have to tip Xavs in a close game by 8 points.

Agree.............

Weekend predictions:
Blacks to get up by the skin of their teeth.
Collegians with an upset 3 goal win over Bernard's
Blues comfortably over Carey, 77 point win.
SKOB to dismantle OM's in both Seniors and reserves, Nankervis to kick 8 goals, and solidify his reputation as a pack crunching forward.
Xavs by 32 points

Huge week of footy.

Be interesting to see the crowd tonight at Toorak Park, if it's a big turn out something Xavs could look at doing early on and later in the seasons to come. Middle of the season isn't ideal but book-ending the season in Night games would be a great spectacle.

Can't make it out there tonight but hopefully get a review of how it all went!

Yeah night games have been done before and seem to work well. Collegians vs OS on a Friday night a couple of seasons ago was a great spectacle. Last round, with the Lions needing to win to make the four.

Been a big plunge on SKOB to win by 60 points plus on Maplebet this morning.
May need to tighten them right in on Flag betting. Last weeks little hiccup should be well and truly forgotten after today.

Have just booked tickets for an overseas vacation with the wife to Europe for end of year. Thanks SKOBBERS.

Gee this tipping thing is easy!?

Skobs team of champions looking very shaky. I'm waiting for BS to tell us 18 of their best 22 are out.

As much as I want De La to nail the claret and stout tonight, it'd be nice to tip the card - especially with Blacks getting upset by those upstart AGSV types at Bulleen Rd and the Gazmen saluting nicely this afternoon.

Upsets everywhere apparently

Considering everyone is tipping Blacks for bottom 4 (and no one had OT there) it wasnt exactly an upset now was it? Someone has really rubbed you the wrong way to put that chip on your shoulder Scribe.
