MIO, any SKOB side minus Dowd, Lynch and Edgar in particular does not have a familiar look about it!
Its a fair call but the young fellas (who i don't know personally ) all looked familiar. My thoughts were it didn't look like wholesale changes. I am still optimistic for the season for sure.

Are you running around in the old buggers mio? How is that working out for skob generally? Some handy names in that side
Not yet. Had an op recently (breathing issue from a bent beak) but its going pretty well from all the boys down there. Yeah some of the boys (EJ) look like they should still be going around. Only two games in but great potential in my opinion. Cracking set of fellas with plenty more to become eligible next year.

Dude, the post started about OT's.
So you aren't correct.
I was just trying to 'wake you' for a comment. Don't mind the Panthers.
Just think you need to acknowledge that with a ressies 0-4 and 0-22 including last year, and a seniors struggling...they may just be in line for relegation. Doesn't mean they are falling apart. I'm just saying on field. I'm suprised this shocks you.
Serious question. How big an issues does a non competitive 2s cause?

Missing 3 regulars hardly equates to a "completely different team".

Looks like over 80% of your 2015 core seniors have played seniors in 2016, many have played all 4.

I am with you scribe; but I think BS is making the heart and soul of the team point. Which is valid. I mean Dowdy and Plugger are SKOB to many people. As you know some players have influence well beyond the playing field.

Scribe, if what you say is near the mark and remember they just hung on to win the B grade Flag in 2015.
Are they realy ANY better with all the talk of their BIG ins for 2016 afterall?

I know its early, but so far.......me thinks not...

Just my opinion but depth is an absolute imperative in ‘A’ grade. In B and C you can probably afford to carry 6 ‘spuds’ if your top end is really good however in Premier if your bottom 6 are not quite up to standard you will be horribly exposed. And the quality rather than just the number missing is often overlooked. If 4 of your best 6 are out it will hurt far more than having 8 ‘soldiers’ on the sidelines.

Any Premier club should have 30 capable of playing ‘A’ grade. Some have more some have less. Depth really becomes important mid year or if you have had a horror run with injury. By mid season some clubs will have used 40 plus players and that’s when depth is really measured.

And Carlton 2011 I’m not picking on Carey here. I have enormous respect with what they have achieved with such a small player pool to draw. However notwithstanding that Rowe, Cust, Rice and others are fantastic players at this level if they are forced to dip into players 30 –35 on their list then they are shot. Their 2s are simply not competitive and they do not have enough players capable of playing Premier seniors.

FWIW I think Scribe's view on SKOB is quite conflicted (anti BS) so I am sure he will agree with you. My view, B grade was no good last year outside the Top 4. SKOB and OMs were the beneficiaries and have shown they are competitive enough to remain in the top grade. I would imagine that is the silent goal of both clubs first, anything else is a bonus. I think SKOB will finish last year like Blues did, but to be honest its OTs, Xavs & De La for me at the pointy end.

FWIW nailed it^^^^^^ on all fronts (I concede):clapping::clapping::clapping:

It's pretty easy to compare if you go to the website. If you would like facts, 15 played on Saturday, 12 the week before and 9 the week before that. I'm not sure that equates to many playing all 4.

Looking forward to seeing you at the OT game.

So 15 of the 22 that played on GF day played on Saturday, plus two ex AFL players.

That is why I thought they would have been disappointed with the result/margin.

Mate, we played Blacks in 2012 and had 6 scoring shots to 29, we were that far off it it's not funny. Why would we be disappointed with a win? They won the Premier flag a year and a half ago! There was only one player from that game who played on Saturday, so we've been in full rebuild, even through last season's games, and still are.

Wins a wins a win.

In the 3 games v Blacks, 2012, SKOB kicked a total of 9 goals 12, including 1 goal 7 in a final.
A win is a win.

FYI, Blacks have prob 5 still playing seniors from the era, SKOB much the same number.

Blacks a very different side from 2012 also (very different from even a year and a half ago) so you're drawing a long bow there BS.

Let's face it. SKOBs have not constructed a side that is currently in a rebuild. That suggestion is laughable. They have deliberately recruited to top up a premiership side to win the premier flag now.

100% true.
And with all ring ins they will come home like a steam train.
Individually man for man they are superior. The imported cream has VFL and AFL experience that we have never seen before.
There is no 'let's just stay in A Grade' mentality going on in house.
It's all about the flag.
Incredible enticements and recruiting.

Here's a great little tidbit from Max McGraw aka Fitzy. Would love to know what the top four clubs are doing to have 18 blokes who have played every game.

That's nice.

Here's a little tidbit I found on the VAFA website....

image.png I daresay the top teams are winning games and only replacing players when they get injured.

If it ain't broke, no need to fix.

Conversely, the definition of stupidity is trying the same thing and expecting a different result

Good call Scribe. You are winning...you reward the players by picking them.
If OT were 1-3, I'm sure they would have tried 4 or 5 different players to try and turn it around.

I think it shows OMs are doing brilliantly given they've gone 3-1 whilst using 31 players already. Logic would suggest they wouldn't be making unforced changes with such a good start. Must be plenty of injuries that they're absorbing.

At OTs my mail is Nicolosi will resume through the twos after a long lay off, Iezzi is still a month away, Tinney and Hamilton have both missed 2 through injury whilst unfortunately Stenhardt did his ACL in Rd 1 and is gone for the year.

That's some quality outs, probably 5 of their top 10.

And what does this mean for Blacks and Collegians?

The point I was trying to make earlier in the week was that with 15 of their premiership 22, plus two ex AFL, they have just beaten a team most hear have earmarked for bottom 3.

Just don’t see why you would make those comparisons after round 4 – a futile exercise by Max. Having 18 play each game at round 4 is hardly ground breaking!

As Scribe correctly points out the number of players used often depends on if you are winning or losing. Clubs who have VFL players jumping in and out can also inflate the figures. And it’s not always about how many but who. On those numbers my club will tick over 30 player used this weekend. Means nothing. Still 22 v 22 when we run out on Saturday.

Maybe repeat this exercise a bit later in the year.
