Might be worth noting that Carey thirds get beaten by about 20goals every weekend....
So I'm sure the coaches etc. didn't have to twist the OC players arms too hard to convince them that not playing was a good option....

Are you saying that Old Carey are a bunch of biatches and they knew they were about to get a good old fashion flogging so they all took the easy way out and said "ground not good enough"

Yes they would have been beaten up badly, but they had 22 players turn up, a 1st for OC this year.

Shite ground that has proven to cause illness.

at least OC have a 3rds, unlike some others. Most clubs have Club XVIII that only care about themselves and never give to their clubs in their hour of need.

Surely if the ground is not good enough for the Senior teams to play on its not good enough for anyone.
Panther 3rds turn up every week and get beaten but not worth getting infections over.

The Uni has the resources to fix the ground for footy and all the other activities that it has there. Give the ground a year off and make right.

You should head into the B Section thread now just to get used to it!!

I noticed the Mole surfaced again after his much Herald Sun publicised ' RETIREMENT' just a few weeks earlier. Panic stations at Wesley with Sauntner brought out from retirement as well..who next big bold Brock to spin around in circles!!!

Don’t let the door hit your arse on the way out ha-ha the B Grade club is back in B Grade, I told you it would happen!!

See you in about 10 - 15 years ha-ha

I wouldn't put it so harshly, but there is concern for the immediate future of the Old Carey senior sides, with a lack of depth in twos and thirds as well as U/19's. Outside recruiting may be the only way to prop the side up for a few years, or the slide may be more than the one grade.

It's a pity. There was a genuine level of excitement when Old Carey first came up with the list that they had (I think BS had them as the best looking side to enter A-Grade that he could remember), but while they had the top-end talent, the depth wasn't there and it continually showed against the top sides. Thus they never even made the finals in the 3 years that they were up in the top flight.

Nostradamus. 3 years in A for Careys first time ever was a great effort. Yes Carey have little depth and compared to other schools a very small pool to recruit from. There school team is woeful and no year 10 team. This makes the rise from low D even more solid. You like? I like!

Penski - well said

DG - It was a good effort to get into A section no doubt I just think they were a bit arrogant when they first arrived, I said it back then and i'll say it again now "Keep a lid on things till you have been around 3-4 years"

I have seen it time and time again, when a club first comes up from B section they tend to pick up a lot of new players + blokes come back from other clubs ect and the place buzzes, all these blokes will stay for maybe 1 or 2 years but then they start leaving again and they struggle. It's a real credit to Xav's, DLS, SBMT, OS, Coll and the Uni Blues that they have managed to stay up in A for so many years running, it's not an easy thing to do

Youlike is spot on.
Two have to drop every year. Disappointing for those 2 teams no doubt. They bust their guts like all the others in the Grade but some one has to take the drop. The people I feel for are the Committee members and rusted on supporters who give their all for the love of their Club and the game. Try as they might, sometimes its just not good enough. I have no love or beef with OC but I think they should be given due respect and congratulated on their efforts regardless of any posturing that may have taken place. As for the other team...the same appplies.

I'm not sure who was arrogant. The guy you are baiting isn't. He tips them all the time but is very fair minded IMO.
I think you have your Carey issues as surely a couple of random posters can't really get you going.
As I said, 3 years is a great effort for a club like Old Carey. A club who has had 60 years with 50 plus of them between D and G Grades. They were not 1 year wonders, but will never be like a Xavs or Scotch or De La. The school just doesn't foster this.

Some OC comments when they first arrived from various posters

1 - Carey do look scarey........top 4 in my opinion, Xavs, De La.......only leaves one other spot in my book
2 - There best 15 are as good as DLS or OX
3 - OC had most of their talent running water but they will be a force this year
4 - When market odds went up "OC at $21.00?????? Where do l get on?????? Put the house on it"
5 - if you want to win the tipping then tip the Panthers more often
6 - Rumblings all over the place that the Xaverazzi are pretty pissed off that the upstart Carey boys from 'up the hill' have made the big time.
7 - No slide here Rah Rah, we are in it for the long haul my friend

(Not me) C'mon Careyites. Even with their reputation for crowing, SBMT had more grace on their arrival in the section.

Nothing wrong with the Carey boys being excited when they came to A, compared the St Bede's posters they were bloody quiet. Anyone who is dismissive of a team that has made it Premier then been relegated doesn't really know their football. There are 72 clubs in our comp, to be in Premier is a fantastic achievement, well done to Carey on their time up the top end of the VAFA, which incidentally will continue next year in Premier B, where the top 4 teams, as has been proven over the last 3 years, will give anyone in Premier a run for their money.
Players like Iezzi, Healy, Dowd, Salopek, Edgar, Gadsen, Mentiplay would be top 5 at any Premier club, so laughing at Carey going back to B shows again, a complete lack of knowledge about our great competition.

Not laughing Brian merely pointing out I was correct when I said they wouldn’t last more than 2-3 years and all of the OC supports challenged it saying they were here for the long haul

The only club I laugh at is SKOB’s, I usually find my laughter peaks around September when they choke time and time again

7 quotes from people who may not even be Carey. Gold. And Carey played 3 seasons. Great effort.

Anyone go to their respective training last night. Mine was nearly underwater,(and we are one of the better ones normaly ) and that was before all the rain overnight and what extra we get today. Can you imagine the state of S Pitt, OC, Uni Xavs etc.....

Would they consider calling off round???

No dont think this would happen. It starts getting harder at the later stage of the season to reschedule games (and no more bye weeks).

Walked past the university oval on the way to work and it looked terrible. That said, its certainly not unsafe, will just be a scrappy game. Looking forward to see if the blues can keep themselves afloat in Premier.

Some important games this week, particularly for the teams in 6-9. Collegians with a winable game at home against the Blacks. Bernards have the inform Tigers at the snakepit. Blues host De La on the bog. Beauy against an in form Scotch. Its extremely tight for that one dreaded spot. Any thoughts on who will go down? My money would be on Beauy.

Well I only go on what they say and all of them claimed to be Carey supporters (CARLTON2011, Alinta etc)
Anyway lets move on from OC, they are about as interesting as Melbourne

Some huge games this week and this weather will level a couple of the playing fields! I can smell a couple of upsets!

Go Sharks

We were told that the council is not letting anyone on the ovals until further notice.
Does that mean that they will move games to other grounds in that council?

Which Council??

Unless they have a roof like Etihad, I would imagine ALL grounds would be in the same condition.
