Also, i notice that Raph Clarke is in the clearances to Beauy, confirming another rumour from months ago.

Interesting move by Raph...close sources down Catland way tell me that an article in the Geelong paper a week or so ago featured the St.Albans Coach from the main league down there talking about the year ahead and how Raph Clarke who has played there that last 1 or 2 seasons was either taking some time off due to fatigue or will be again playing with them in 2014. He would have been on Big $$ last year and again if playing in that league is the mail my sources had avised.;)

What about......Glenn Chivers to Bernard's........posted in clearances today (see below).......thoughts?

Chiv didn't play a game in 2013, approx 6 in each of 2012 & 2011. A dozen games in 3 years isn't a great deal to hang your hat on. Has undoubted ability & if he plays 9 games this year I would be pleasantly surprised. I don't think it's a loss, but more of a what might have been.

He was rookie listed by St Kilda several years back so at some stage he must have been fairly highly regarded. My recollection is that he never went close to AFL level and departed for the VFL the next season. Don’t believe he made much of an impression there either and has made irregular appearances for SKOBS over recent years. A great effort to be on an AFL list in any case but perhaps footy is not his no 1 priority. I’m interested in why he would leave SKOBS. Was there some issue at SKOBS or is there some link to St Bernards?

uni blacks have picked up Ben Vile who has had a strong season in the nt, and also half a year in the o&m with albury tigers. led the murray bushrangers in disposal efficiency in 2012 playing key position back, can play back or forward reads the play well and is great on both sides, dangerous weapon that will be a very solid across half back

bbsaintslad has 3 posts. All 3 posts refer to Ben Vile. Is bbsaintslad Ben Vile's mother?

I do not know him, so was just interested if he another good get for St Bernards. They seem to have recruited ok.

Can’t read too much into practice games, particularly this early but any news from the matches from the weekend? Believe 5 ‘A’ grade teams in action. I’m told that Beauy may have just shaded Noble Park, which is a fair effort against a perennially strong EFL club. St Bedes with a very young and depleted side comfortably beaten by Sale. Any word on the St Bernards V Uni Blacks game. I think all 10 clubs in action this coming weekend.

SENIOR PLAYERS
After our first hit-out on the weekend against 2013 preliminary finalist, University Blacks, we are pleased to advise you all that the 58 players who played in the 2 games on the weekend came through unscathed, all benefiting from valuable pre-season game time.
As at 16 March 2014, the senior playing group looks something like this:
•96 senior players listed as confirmed or probable players for season 2014. Of these players, 81 have participated in what has been an excellent pre-season training program thus far.
•These player numbers will vie for spots in one of our three VAFA Premier division teams currently registered with VAFA for season 2014 (1sts, 2nds, 3rds)
•70 of these 96 senior players are Proud, Passionate, REGISTERED as at 16 March 2014. (Thanks to Jesse Manunzio for this player registration tag line)
•22 top age U19 players from season 2013 are registered to play their first year of senior football in season 2014, a retention rate for these top age players of in excess of 60%; building on the success of the summer Academy program of the past 4 years, which strengthens the quality and number of active players flowing through from the football clubs junior ranks via our “VAFA unders” program and into the senior club. These 22 players will strengthen the clubs stocks in all three senior sides in season 2014.
•New recruits confirmed for the 2014 season include Jake Calvert (Frankston VFL), Glenn Chivers (St. Kevs OB), Sam Fleming (Portland), Pat Gamwell (returning from EFL), Chad Jones (Claremont), Jayden Malseed (GFL), Alex Mcleod (EDFL), Daniel Segrave (Country Victoria).
•In addition, 2 important “recruits” at the club for season 2014 have made a real impact already after 1 pre-season match. Josh Madden, returned from 2013 spent in the USA, is a member of the VAFA 2014 State squad and shook off the cobwebs of 12 months away from football in an excellent first up effort on the weekend. Whilst Ben Considine, older brother to U19 Prem player Will and cousin of Tom and Simon Caven, who is yet to play a VAFA game for the club after injuring his ACL in our last practice match in 2013, was outstanding against Uni Blacks, importantly getting through the game unscathed, whilst also showing how valuable a “recruit” he will be this year.
Saturday’s practice game against Uni Blacks was the first time Tom Caven had led the side out as Captain in his own right, supported by recently appointed 2014 Vice Captain, Adam Bentick, and their 4 other members of the senior club leadership group, Tom Overman, Nic Cooke, Jacob Bevanda and Michael Angel

58 players in 2 games of footy - tells me they treating the practice matches as just that. So nothing to read into anything other than both clubs will have got game time into their playing groups.

Even in the reserves. Bernies seniors by 10-12 goals.

Beauy went down by 3 goals after trailing by 8 at half time. Good effort 1st up against a very stong outfit.

any results so far??

De La website reports a 1 pt win over Old Melb. Really difficult to get a form line from practice games. Was not there but this would suggest a fairly tight match. First hit out for DLS and second for Melburnians. A very breif match summary on De La website.
