Fair enough and forums are for opinions. I might be wrong but I just don’t think that when plotting ways to win an ‘A’ grade final you factor in the possible impact on the 2s. I guess we just agree to disagree on the merits of resting players. A final word on the matter (from me anyway) is you need to look at the practice in its entirety rather than in isolation. Uni Blues rested players in their Rd 18 game and then comfortably won their 2nd semi. In this case I guess it was a smart tactical move.

Yep never saw this result coming and I honestly thought Scotch would win comfortably. I suppose when you only see them twice a year it is difficult to get a proper handle on teams but based on what I saw I just didn’t rate the Lions. With an older list resting players is sound management if you can afford to do it so would not draw any conclusions from that. Blacks and Bernies did the same last week. Collegians just too good and looking at the number of shots should have won by more. Have hit some form at the right time so well done to them.

Scotch the fancied team in each of the 3 previous 1st semi finals but yet to salute. As we have seen it can difficult to sustain a place at the pointy end of the 'A' grade ladder and they might face some challenges next season.

I posted a few weeks back that OS maybe found out "to be too cute by half" with their resting policy.

And guess what?.......Yep, as sure as night follows day...... OS would have to be the most mediocre, underperforming, (last A grade early 70's) arrogant club in the VAFA. They treated Coll with absolute contempt, starting with the mass resting of players in the last round. Who do they realy think they are? Both clubs finished on 40pts, with OS 4% ups...pretty close I would have thought.

You dont need to give a club like Coll anything to "work" with and that is exactly what OS did. DUmb, Dumb, Dumb.........
but then again they are OS arent they, saluting in the final series isnt in their DNA.................

Well, they get to rest 22 this week!

Word reaches me that all 3 Murphy brothers will be playing at Dairy Bell next year, if that's the case they would be some fantastic pick ups. Rooster, as a good De La man can you shed any light on the whisper?

2014 season still not concluded so way to early to suggest anything with much confidence but it does seem to be a reasonable chance of this happening. While the bellers did a remarkable job to stay up this year there is no question they need an injection of talent.

I am hearing that a lot of the ‘travelers’ or others who for whatever reason did not play in 2014 are returning next season. If nothing else the depth will be vastly improved.

(my head is still spinning that we are in another GF!)

It's strange, but i was far more confident for this game than i was the Scotch game. We played some amazing patches of footy and withstood some tremendous pressure, but still there were simple skill errors/turnovers that could be cleaned up, so it's heartening to know that our best footy is still ahead of us. Hylton and Hibbins both outstanding, and the forward line showing that even if Taft is quiet, you have Croft x2 and Corp still menacing and more than capable of kicking enough goals.

That being said, Blacks are an entirely different proposition than STB or OS. Much stronger and more composed across every line.

Coll have beem like a stealth fighter for the last half of the season....no one saw it coming until it was to late.

OS did them the biggest favor (and themselves a fatal decision ) of all time in the last H and A game by resting players.
It gave Coll a huge confidence boost which has not tempered and continues to grow......

Collegians really are a fantastic club. 5th GF in 7 years is a great effort. Certainly proved me wrong as based on what I saw this year (albeit only twice) I did not think they were in the best 4 teams let alone best 2. Having said that I gave them more of a chance against St Bernards (who have been ordinary in the last month) than I did against Scotch. 5.22 will not win you too many games and Chad Jones missing was a massive blow for the Snowdogs.

However they face a ruthless and rested Blacks this week who will be an entirely different proposition. The Lions have certainly hit form at the right time and have found some terrific young players to compliment the veterans who just get the job done each week. They will need to be at their absolute best but I’m tipping Blacks by north of 5 goals. But you just never know.....

The "Last Waltze" this sat.

Coll got any chance???

They play the ground better than anyone going around, and you're always a chance in a two horse race. They'll be up against it for sure and huge underdogs, but half of the current team knows what it takes to win the big one, and that counts for something.

Apparently, 6 of the Snowdogs players where out on the piss at Deluxe Bar in Moonee Ponds nite before the final, rebelling against their Vice President who's barred them from heading out to that Nightclub...

Guessing there is a zero % chance that happened on the night before.
