Pre-pandemic, SKOBAFL, COLLEGIANSAFL and prime UNIAFL would've destroyed any non-state league team in all of Australia.

I think now the VAFA against the best of the rest of Victoria is certainly close, but OXWAFL's reserves side would shake a lot of top divisions sides locally. A full OBALUMNI side would probably still be the best local side in Victoria in my opinion. VAFA bottom 6 players is far better than any local side. Alot of the 5-6 pointers locally aren't ex AFL nor worth it.


Side note, Balwyn would be counting their lucky starts they saluted. Imagine using 7 points on one Jarrod Lienart.

I think you are spot on, pre-pandemic teams would smash post-pandemic teams.

Post-pandemic and lockdown, players are a lot more likely to travel overseas and make that their number 1 priority over playing footy. The taste for freedom now outweighs the need to be part of the collective. Old Scotch played 46 players in the senior team in 2025, that is unheard of a few years ago and still finished runners up. The Pandemic changed everything.

Vafa sponsors did the tee shirts not Brighton...did something similar in the 19s this year a well...xavs thirds have had hats made for years and unfortunately a "threepeat" one for the premier thirds side fell flat last year.

This was my thoughts too that the bottom 6 player depth in the VAFA top sides might make the difference between them and most of the other top suburban sides (Heidelberg supporters could probably justifiably disagree)

Don't know for sure but i do know the sponsors made up stand up portable banners with "premiers" for both clubs in the 19s GF, so it's possible.
