Poor form picknig ona Dixlexic.

Actuallyl live and die by my spell checker.

Trinity Grammar won the AGS this year, and have had solid returns from their younger players. Rambo, whilst unreplaceable, will do well to get full seasons out of the two Ivanhoe Grammar boys, Jack and Tim Walsh. (Got to have some claim to B Grade in 2013).

Whilst not as old as Rambo, the Horse Virus can't keep carrying the boys from the Windy Ground for much longer.

OH were one of the better performed team in the last half, and showed that with young Seccull running around they will be right up there in 2013.

BS, from what I can gather, the only two guys from Carey that play for Blacks are Costello and Willingham. Costello has never played with Old Carey and the entire Costello family has always played with the varsity. Willingham was obviously recruited by Costello, but I hardly say that Blacks are full of Carey turncoats.

As for SANFL players, I have looked closely at their playing list on sporting pulse and it looks like they have ZERO SANFL player. The closest I could find was Wood, who came from the SAAFL, amo's in Adelaide. So, as they have NO SANFL players, it looks unlikely that they'll stay.

To say they recruited every man and their dog is just incorrect. Its just what we have all come to expect from you though.

As for the game this week, I think it ill be an absolute rip snorter. Blacks will be fresh from the rest and Beauy will be up and about after a terrific win last week. They were 1-1 during the season, but that doesn't count for much now. If Beauy can get out the blocks, I think they might just pull it off, as I'm not 100% convinced of the Blacks backline. But, if Uni manage to keep it tight until half time, I think they might kick away in the last. They will stretch Beauy backline with their gigantic forward line (Mathews, Slabert, Foster) but Petering and Buckley will win the mid-field battle.

BS - that's the 2nd person who has queried you on the Carey Turncoats / SANFL connection - make me the third... waiting.

Not sure that a strong school team translates to future success. If St Kevins have won 3 out of last 4 APS titles that means 3 years of boys have left school yet this has not been reflected by success in the U19's so presumably the best players are going to other comps. Xavs have not won APS for a while yet have ongoing U19 and Senior success. Would not back on your school leavers being a road to success in 2 years.

Interesting points.

Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the Xavs last APS flag (2003), so yes they have managed to be competitive in section one during that time( althoguht DE la have been the "premier" team, pardon the pun!)

If your school team is too good, the players end up in the VFL/SANFL/AFL at least in the first few years, so that might explain it.

If you are going to quote me, don't misquote me, where did I say that Uni Blacks are full of Carey turncoats? If you knew your footy you would know that there are three Carey boys who crossed there this year, and they weren't necessarily from the Old Boys team. Likewise, you would also know that they have 2 guys who recently played SANFL, if Matt Kempton is to be believed. I have no reason to doubt Kempo, so I'll happily tow the party line and say that this is fact.
In regards to their recruits, they did, in fact, go hard and recruit a tonne of players, and good luck to them, they have gone from 5th to first.
As for your thoughts about this weeks game, I couldn't give a flying f#@k!!!

While what you say is true, having a strong relationship with a sports orientated school provides a strong base on which to build a competitive side.

Add a talented import or two to compliment that strong transition program and you have a basis for success when it counts. As Collegians have shown in the last few years.

I reckon the Under 19's had a good year considering most were playing seniors, at one stage we had 14 around that age in the seniors. I also know that we have at least a dozen of those school leavers at TAC clubs this year PLUS we had around 10 at VFL clubs including two blokes who will hopefully go back to back at Port Melbourne this weekend. We will also hopefully have Luke Andrews drafted this year, a man who destroyed Old Brighton earlier in the season.
Don't worry about where we are heading, we know where we are going and we will get there, we have been in B Section or above for 16 years as of next year, and we won't be dropping off anytime soon!

I am with you on this ocassion Brian!

Where is the all knowing super sleuth who tried to convince the world that you and I are one?

Boy, has he gone quiet

Darwin, l think you will find 3 from Old Carey. You forgot Tom Howgate.........You never know they all may come home to roost one day!!!!!

Gee, not a lot of love for Beauy!
Kanis has a poor record, those Blues teams were awesome, should have won two flags.
Blacks recruited every man and his dog this year, how will the Carey turncoats go when they play their old side? Will the SANFL guys stay? Perhaps they need to start recruiting from within the Uni, they only have access to 35,000 students and their relatives, which according to Kanis makes them under resourced compared to SKOB, what a load of shit. They also have Ray Wilson and the head of the MUFC on their side, will go ok next year.
SKOB will be a force in 2 years, will be next to unbeatable, watch it unfold.
Caulfield to double drop, can't go 0-18 and expect to be a power in B, look at Marcellin. OT will rely on old father time or could be headed to C also.

Tom Howgate has played at Blacks for a number of years. Willingham came across this year but he would be the only one - he joins Dan Cos and Tom Howgate to make three Carey guys. The only bloke on the list who has in the past played SANFL is Cam Roberts. But I believe he last played with the NT Thunder before going to Blacks.

From what I can tell the list is actually similar to last year, majority of recruits were guys who have previously played at the club and come back after some time away, or have had relatives play there. Have had a great season. Two good tussles during the year with Beauy which was split 1-1. Sure to be a cracking game Saturday!

That, my feathered friends, is why Briza, although associated with a mentally soft club with the worst facilities in history for rich school, is a Big Footy Legend! Although he talks up the SLOBS, he knows his VAFA shit.

Fine and sunny conditions for Saturday - hopefully no wind to contend with and a great game to unfold.

UB going in favorites in my mind due to their late season surge.

All the best to the two combatants in the "Stephen Bradbury" cup

Cheers

Fantastic, another Space to Watch - Im sick of this one as nothing happened as SKOB smashed OH by 8 goals the next day.

Nah, with rumored unrest at Mic-mac oval, OH may struggle in 2013.

Cheers

I’m with CC on this one as I have heard similar sentiments about the pink and black. An over reliance on VFL players and some dissent from those constantly pushed aside when there is a VFL bye. A few players coaxed across on the promise of jobs that did not eventuate believed to be considering options for 2013.

Seccull to his credit trying hard to build from within and improve links to the school (A massive pool to tap into) but culturally those at the helm once again want to pursue a few big fish. A view that this is not sustainable, as has been proved with the A and B yo yo of recent times, so some butting of heads is occurring. The shared tenancy not all smooth sailing either.

I’m sure someone from OH will put us straight.

For what it's worth Beauy played very well on the weekend. Moved the ball alot quicker and smarter than St.kevins especially from the stoppages. Bad kicking is bad football as well. Surprised someone on here said that Blacks weakness is their defence? On numbers easily their strength, and with Batten, Pitt, Howgate and Drysdale they will restrict Beauy too a low score. Don't know if Beauy can keep the VFL players they have qualified for Premier, because they will need to. Who knows with Blacks. Blues, Fitzroy in B & NOBS in C would make things tight on the recruiting front.

Beauy only have 1 VFL player but your point about needing to improve the playing list is a valid one.

They have the best organised junior feeder system of any VAFA district club IMO.
How would you know without being intimately involved with other clubs like Fitzroy, Hampton Rovers and St Bede's/Mentone? Our junior club (St Bede's/Mentone) is terrifically run and one of the reasons the senior team is so strong.

It's an opinion based forum Briza. In this instance that's why I emphasised IMO.

That said, a role I have gives me some insight into these things. Still, it's just a viewpoint which appears to have hit a nerve with you.
