Could someone from VAFA HQ give us a reason as to why the VAFA Premier B Grand Final will be at Sportscover Arena, and not the better credentialed Trevor Barker Oval or IKON Park, Carlton? Would've been better to have the Premier B/Premier Grand Finals both at Carlton.

I'll have a stab....

Premier finals contenders are based in Essendon, Bulleen x 2, Parkville and Armadale. Central decent ground location - tick.

Premier B almost guaranteed finalists are located in Brighton, Mentone, Glen Iris and Albert Park. Central (not) decent ground location is Elsternwick.

That's my best answer (and I'm not affiliated with VAFA HQ).

Ring them up Jase. Any big name recruits coming to Rovers in 16

At the end of the season Matty Robbins is showed the door. Ormond offer him a playing assistant coaching role, for which he accepts. Clearance lodges and accepted.

Come 1st week of March, a new clearance application comes back for Matty Robbins. His new club. Hampton Rovers.

Hampton Rovers announce after an exhaustive search they have appointed their new coach. Yes Matty Robbins.

Only problem with that bit of déjà vu is finding a spot for him in the ones. Guess if it's good enough for Mal to run around in the twos it's good enough for Matt to as well. :p

Could the current St Kevins team be the best seen in Premier B history? And how does this team compared to the 1996 SKOB premiership side?

Jas

That team was in C Grade, not B Grade. They lost the Grand Final the following year to win promotion of A Grade (As it was known in the olden days)

They had a good run for several years.

Need to win in 2015

Uni Blacks a few years ago were the best B grade team I have seen. Went on to win A grade flag. Then Uni Blues looked as good and thrived in A grade. SKOB have a lot of players who have played a lot of B grade. No doubt the ins will gain promotion but long way from the best B grade side recently. Even Trinity with Ramsden and Iezzi looked stronger. Having said that I feel A grade is weaker than it has been for a long time and half the B teams would be competitive inA at the moment. Clearly SKOB will gain promotion if they can play well at Elsternwick. Certainly OM's will enjoy Elsternwick park which may well be their future home ground.

Reckon the St Bedes side was the best I saw. Obviously they too went on to win the flag and really didnt add too many. Just the way they played was something else (run and gun). This SKOB side is very interesting too; they really just overwhelm sides. The wick is a terrible ground but if the defence holds up; the mids/forward will put a score to put SKOB back to Premier.

Blacks were a very good team when they won the B grade flag in 2012 but were substantially stronger in 2014 when they won the ‘A’ grade flag with the addition of some ex AFL and VFL players including Blake, Pattison, Hogan, Kruse and others.

I strongly disagree with your comment about ‘A’ grade and believe it is better this year than last. Only 1 poor team (Beaumaris) and they were actually ok over the early rounds. Last year’s runners up Collegians look likely to be relegated despite having a much the same list as last year.

St Bedes won just 3 games in Premier last season with a better list then the team that currently sits 2nd in B grade. The relegated Brighton team also appears weaker this year than last. Agree that SKOBs would be a force but outside of them I can see any other team that would trouble many 'A' grade teams.

How good is Boss James. Great venue for football. Hampton Rovers play a very competitive game and have some very good footballers. But their ressies kicked 1 point. Shows how tough if it without feeder system. Clearly B decided. SKOB and St Bedes to A. OM, OBG, Ajax, Fitzroy and Hampton solid B teams. The others struggling at this level. Looking forward to playing at Beaumaris again and looking forward to playing Collegians.

Couldn't understand why as good as a venue Boss James Reserve is, it is completely ignored by the VAFA when allocating venues for the finals. Surely the VAFA should look at having Hampton Rovers host a final for the lower grades (ie Division 2 or U19 3).

Smoking what have you been smoking? Hampton Rovers have one of the biggest junior clubs in the state and their unders won the flag last year (albeit in one of the lower grades). If their ressies are no good it is not due to not having a feeder, it is likely more to do with player retention and the number of other clubs in the area.

Jase I recall them playing U19s finals at Boss James recently but a lack of fencing probably makes it less attractive to the VAFA. Many councils simply wont let ground with turf wickets have any football whatsoever in September so this might also be a contributing factor.

One piece of advice for teams who are playing at Elsternwick Park on Premier B Grand Final is simple: check the water drainage system first, so as to avoid a repeat of last year when Collegians change rooms was flooded with water, which forced them to use the social rooms at Elsternwick Park.

A feeder means that your juniors FEED into your senior program. The U19's won the flag because of a late season influx of Brighton Grammar boys. I have not seen a weaker reserves team in B grade. The seniors however are very competitive.

Yes in some respects that’s a very fair call and this ridiculous 2 game qualification rule and registration up to 31 July in the U19s was well and truly exploited by the Rovers last year. This is the fault of the VAFA, not the Rovers who did nothing outside the rules.

However my point was that as far as junior feeders go the HR seniors have one of the best in the area on their doorstep. Notwithstanding a lot of these kids go to private schools with teams in the VAFA, HR already have them on the books so to speak and just need to promote the pathway.

Which team (other than Beaumaris) do you think might be relegated from Premier section?

The VAFA might regret having the grand final at Sportscover Arena. Having it at Sandringham would've been better.

Do you get the feeling that unlike the other sections, the finish to the Premier B h&a season will be anti-climatic, because the final four and the battle for relegation has already been decided. The only interest is which team will join Beaumaris to go down to Premier B in 2016.

Prem C and Div 1 finals have been settled for weeks now Jase. Relegation also done and dusted in Div 1, and pretty close to in Prem C.

Don't think your argument holds any water.
