Panthers are second favourites. I have got them there due to depth. Their ressies are always a debacle.
Whilst full strength they will be tough to beat. But If 3-4 of these new guns get injured, then the wheels may fall off.
Maplebet is happy to offer inflated odds for this reason.

is there any truth to the story that robert shaw has been taking quite a few of the old brighton training sessions?

You would think with his current role at the school, that your comment is very likely to be true.
Smart move. Some schools do the connection between old boys team and school footballers/director of football at school a lot better than others. Super important.
At Xavier...I have heard...that a table of key school boy players always receive a complimentary ticket to the Old Xavs B&F dinner.
And are made to feel very welcome and wanted.

Colls provide a table for their schoolboy 1st XV111 players to attend theirs. Their relationship with the school is "hand in glove"..
The proof is in the pudding...

It's amazing that a lot of school teams who don't have a great relationship with the school, do not do something like this. Nor have somebody on the committee regularly touching base with the school footy director or school football parents association.

Your spot on. An example where it doent happen : OS from what I hear, have been wiped by the School...no assistence or the like....

Fences can always be mended. Just takes the best person to make the right approach.
Barry Price was the linchpin in that scenario and he retired from teaching a little while back.

Think Stuart Powell still teaches there. One wonders why the club don't use him as a conduit if what is being put is accurate.

I may be wrong, but I think Powell was involved at OS last year but got the "sack". Hardly likely to do them any favors after that...As I said I maybe wrong but dont think so....

From what little I know, Ando and S.P leaving their joint coaching roles had as much to do with them wanting to move on as the club wanting a change.

Ando wanted a break from coaching and S.Ps role as the schools Director of Sport and Physical Education meant he couldn't commit the time any longer. That's no more than info around the traps.

My understanding is there is still a good flow of junior players coming from the school but there isn't the strong bond that exists with some other schools as you rightly pointed out.

I agree with most they will be thereabouts this year but I'd see the Bernies and the Panthers ahead of them for the silverware. Don't be surprised if the Pirates put up a good showing either as they've picked-up some talent from the local league I'm lead to believe. Early days though.

Yep, fair call AM.

Nice summation there as usual old mate, but Powelly was told his services were no longer required, quite a shocking decision when you look at their achievements under his guidance and their non achievements since he left.
As far as flow the footy club goes, Stuey hasn't got a bad bone in his body and would never try to drive a wedge between the school kids and Old Scotch.
Like Carey, Scotch College are becoming a very big soccer school, and like Melbourne High, their school population is becoming more Asian by the year. Coupled with the fact that they are big on football scholarships which results in their better players being drafted, then we have recipe for them not being as strong as they once were.
Another key is that they used to get the better Carey and SKC kids when those clubs were in the lower grades, which does not happen any more.

MHS has been Asian for quite a few years. It's asd that so many kids are going to soccer as its shit in this country and they keep Fing up at the top level.

Carey Grammar school football is rebounding after some very lean years with lots of hard work behind the scenes and importantly for the old boys, with several past and present players involved with coaching,.
I would hazard a guess that the next few years at least will produce some very strong sides with maybe 2018 looking the strongest.

Any practice match results? Old Carey played collegians . Collegians won by 5-6 goals. Both sides well understrength as every side is this time of the year. Great from an Old Carey point of view to see some of the new/returning recruits in action as well as some very good new young players. Collegians were very strong on ball with a couple of very tall forwards

Monash down to Uni Blacks by about the same. Good hit out for both Clubs. Ashes mixed it well with Blacks in first half but a bit of class prevailed. Loved the way Blacks used the ball all over the park, with their run and support and quick hands, and some smart work up forward. Something for the Ashes to emulate.

Bernards beat Fitzroy by about 7 goals today. Plenty missing from both sides. Good first hit out for both teams. Watching for Bernards were Bentick, Simon and Tom Caven, Singleton, Jack McNamara, one of the Hughes twins, Tristan Cartledge. Lots of quality young kids impressed.

Not sure which ground you were at Bagman but the game i saw finished alot closer than that. Final margin was actually 3 goals. Lead was out to 6 goals but pegged back well by the fit young Roys. As you say though alot missing from both sides so the result matters little really. Don't like seeing gross misreporting though.

Sorry about that. Was basing that on Bernards people who claimed were keeping score. Which I was not. Not an issue at all as game was good quality.

Mazenod beat Knox (EFL Div 2) pretty comfortably I've been told. The Nodders are very happy with the result and thought their pressure around the ball was outstanding. Know were relegated from Div 1 last year without winning a game so not sure how the form lines up. But, they are very pleased with the way the boys played.

Wanting to be accurate with scores today. Bernards 5.6 to Uni Blues 5.3 at half time in sunny Moorabbin. Blues had best of Q1. Bernards had best of Q2. Good quality game.

My spies say it was only a 2 point lead at half time.
I have told you a thousand times...do not exaggerate.
