I think for every negative you can drum up about the Shoot Footy League, I can go one better for the Worst Run Football League. But VAFA is not all squeaky clean and rose scented either. About the only league that you *don't* hear much negativity towards the administration is VFL (and that's probably because I don't have connections there to tell me).

I must admit I know nothing about that side of town, with regards to footy.

I also no little about the admin of any league.

But having seen the quality (or lack of) of grounds, facilities and supporter behaviour. There is a perfectly good reasons so many former SFL clubs have left to EFL, VAFA etc

But a couple of Caulfield lads have been enticed to the Peanut Farm over the years and all have been disappointed & left quickly.

While St Bedes Mentone may not have the top resources & facilities in the VAFA, they’re still pretty good and significantly better than what you’d find at St Kilda City and the worst suburban Comp in Melbourne
Just to straighten you up a bit, City have just upgraded their rooms. Bedes are currently in portables. There’s quite a few lingering issues with VAFA such as lack of umpires, inconsistent tribunal decisions, travelling too far for games, widening gaps between top clubs and bottom clubs, and so on. As far as being the worst surburban comp in Melb, take your blinkers off as they are doing a few things allot better than the VAFA. All comps have their issues but at least the SFNL are trying to corrret them, unlike the VAFA who are stuck in their own self importance. Priorities like the the cost of the Logo would be one that comes to mind. Good luck to BH for the rest of the season hope he adds some value to the SFNL and to City.

There were quite a few tears when Bill left, he’s left an indelible mark on our club......those were tears of joy from most of his former team mates.

Good luck St Kilda City, you deserve both of them.

FWIW interesting that you are attacking the player and not the club that made false promises.

Just had a look at the new Peanut Farm facilities. Much improved. However also had a look at the plans at Brindisi St. Reckon they look better.

City of Kingston has put up some decent new facilities in Mordi (Football & Life Saving), Parkdale and I believe Edi-Asp is in plan. The joys of living in swing seats hey.

I don't think the VAFA is that awesome from an administration perspective, however the standard of football and the atmosphere at these games I genuinely believe is a long way in front of the SFNL. I think this has more to do with the clubs than the VAFA though. For example I'd much prefer watching Parkdale or Edi-Asp than Mordi.

Atmosphere at games, you must be kidding.. Having recently moved bayside I have made a point of visiting all the local games in my area to get a feel for the footy and the crowds. Beaumauris get a decent vocal crowd which creates atmosphere, St Bedes, Parkdale & Old Mentonians get more atmosphere at a funeral service.. Where I have seen games at Bentleigh, Cheltenham & StKilda City and all were lively crowds which make the footy more entertaining.

Spot on IAAM.

IAAM & BSA,

I never mentioned Old Mentonians (who are the GC Suns of VAFA attendance) and I have always found the atmosphere at Gerry Green pretty good for Caulfield games. Lively crowds make a good game great. Drunk and rowdy crowds intimidate umpires, opposing spectators and ruin the game.

However I suspect we are going to have to agree to disagree.

The fans of the SFNL can have it. I'll be sticking to the imperfect but IMO better VAFA comp.

Well said.

Footy is Back Finally!

St Bedes Mentone v Beaumaris - It the Tigers drop this, finals gets hard. I believe Barnes has finished his suspension now too. But I still think the Sharks are rolling better and will get this done.
Old Scotch v Caulfield Grammarians - The Cardinals were hurt after the Fields beat them earlier this year and both sides are feeling the European travel bug. I reckon this might be the game the Fields may drop. But they have managed to find a way so far this year, so I am sticking fat.
Old Geelong v Monash Blues - Neither sides are travelling well, but I think OG's are just a little better.
Parkdale v Old Haileybury - Not confident here, but am sticking with the home team.
University Blacks v Fitzroy - No contest here.

Also had a look back at my pre-season predictions:
Contenders To Go Up: St Bedes, Scotch, Blacks, Caulfield, Beauy & Fitzroy.
Only really got Fitzroy wrong here and St Bedes look like their dropping off the pace.
Contenders To Go Down: OGs, Parkdale, Haileybury & Monash.
While I think the Vultures & Bloods will be OK, they aren't far enough ahead of the bottom 2 yet.

Not terrible, for a flat out guess.

Bedes vs sharks will be a blinder

Shapes up as an 8 point game for the tigers, they should get the chocolates in a must win.

Beauy
Caulfield
OG
Parkdale
Blacks

ST BEDES V Beauy - game between the battle of the whingers, but the home side just with their ferrals behind the goals.
Skotch V CAULFIELD - Absentees galore but the Fields to continue on.
GEELONG V Blues - Geelong are better at home.
VULTURES V Hailebury - Vultures have a few guns out, Balic, Vorbach, Boland but some to come back in, they were stiff last time they played but should get up at home.
BLACKS V Roys - Roys will test them for a half, conditions will play a big part but can't go past blacks at home.

The run home + Summary : 7 games remain, top two look to be set, however, the rest of the competition remains extremely interesting.

Caulfield (44 points) - Obviously doing very well. This weekend will be interesting. Last time they played OS, OS didn't have a coach and were missing plenty of senior players. Having said that, Caulfield dominated. This weekend isn't really a great indicator where the teams are at either, with players sprinkled around Europe but going into a finals series having beaten a team twice gives you plenty of confidence and I know who I'd rather be if Caulfield do win this weekend. (38 players played this year)

Old Scotch (40 points) - Haven't been travelling too well over the past few games, falling over the line against Fitzroy and only running away with it late against Parkdale. Hopefully they can find some form over the next 7 games to make the finals series interesting. Looking forward to seeing some of the top end talent come back for the run into finals. (39 players played)

Uni Blacks (28 points) - With a healthy percentage, 3rd spot is theirs to lose, however, if they lose to OS next week, they open the door for one of the bayside teams to sneak into 3rd spot. Uni teams traditionally battle around winter time, so hopefully they can get up this weekend and skip another game clear of Beaumaris or St Bedes. (37 players played this year)

Beaumaris (24 points) - Probably the team that has surprised a little bit. After talk that they have been gutted, they have plugged away nicely to be sitting in 4th spot. This weekend is pretty much a final. If they can beat St Bedes and sit 2 games clear in 4th, with a much healthier %, I would say 4th spot is nearly locked up. (38 players played)

St Bedes (20 points) - I have been slightly disappointed with St Bedes this year. They were competitive in Premier last year without winning too many, but the step down is enormous and they seem to be playing to the level of the opposition. This weekend is a GF for them. If they win, I see them rolling on and ending up 4th come seasons end. If they lose, as I said above, it will be a very difficult task, and may come down to R18 against OS at the postage stamp. (43 players played this year). The 43 players played this year has been the most by any club and does not help one bit with team continuity, so I can see it has been a difficult time down at the Tigers.

Parkdale (16 points) - Unfortunately for Parkdale, it seems to be another finish in the 5th to 8th range. They have clearly been the best team of the bottom 5 teams, however, just can't seem to play consistently well. If they beat OH this weekend, they will definitely be safe. (39 players played this year)

Old Haileybury (16 points) - OH have had the least amount of players through there team, almost certainly because the depth at the club is horrible. Top end talent is quite good, and that is why I think they will survive this year. They have already played OS twice, meaning that they have a slightly easier remaining fixture, and I think 5 wins will see you safe. (33 players played)

Fitzroy (12 points) - Played a great game against OS in Rd.11, but come up against the Blacks this weekend. I have no idea if Blacks get hit with absentees in winter, so I just assume Fitzroy won't be able to match it with them this weekend. They seem to have the easiest draw, so I'm tipping them to scrape through in 8th spot. Rd13 game at Brunswick St Oval will be a belter against OGGS. (38 players played)

Old Geelong (12 points) - OGGS have been up and down this year. I believe they have plenty of young blokes running around which is a great sign for the future. I don't think it would be a bad thing for them to go down, win a flag, and bounce back the following year. Having said that, they have a fantastic opportunity to win this weekend and then follow that up with a win against Fitzroy the following week to shake things up.(39 players played)

Monash (8 points) - Monash look like the favourites for 10th spot. They lost to Fitzroy two games back, and will need to win at least 2 more games to have a chance of remaining up. Huge game this weekend against OGGS away, and if they lose this one, they will be gone. They have the talent to be more than the 2 wins, they just can't put 4 quarters together. (40 players played)

Tips:

Flip of the coin, but I'll take the homeside, BEAUMARIS.
SCOTCH by 4 goals
GEELONG by 10 points
VULTURES at home.
BLACKS by 6 goals.

I’ll go with:
Bedes in a close one
Fields
Ashes (I hear they might have a couple of good ins)
Parky
Blacks

Fitzroy v Old Geelong - Both were ordinary last week and you'd think the loser of this gets relegated. Have to stay with the home team here. Should be a ripping contest.
Monash Blues v Parkdale - Also a ripping contest and only sticking with the Vultures as I believe they have a few back.
Caulfield v Beaumaris - Expect the home side to bounce back.
Uni Blacks v Old Scotch - Line ball and sticking with the home team.
Old Haileybury v St Bedes/Mentone - The bloods have shown some real life, but reckon the Tigers are warming up for the run home.

Fitzroy should win but flip a coin.

I think Monash blues might just get the chocolates against the vultures in a tight one.

Caulfield by how much is the question against Beaumaris

Blacks in a tight one but run away with it late against scotch!

Mentone win again and become the X factor for the finals series!

Great weekend for footy! 👍🏽
