Caulfield to beat St Bede's. I am not buying the 'Brindisi not suited to Caulfield' argument. Caulfield to outrun St Bede's. Caulfield by 4 goals.
Blacks to beat Fitzroy. I know nothing of Fitzroy, but Blacks are fearsome, had a great pre-season and had 4 fit players on the bench last week at game's end. They are flying. Blacks by 85.
Old Scotch to beat Old Geelong. A bloody fantastic effort by Old Geelong last week first week up in B. But Scotch will be too polished for the newcomers. Scotch by 42.
Monash to beat Beaumaris. Ashes' confidence will have taken a hit, but did play well in patches last week. Beaumaris will be tough though. Monash by 4pts.
Parkdale to beat Old Haileybury. No doubt about the Parkers' resilience, they might put it together this year. I also think OHA's failure to attract a regular batch of newcomers the past couple of years will catch up with them, and they will become even more reliant on their few best players. Parkdale by 48.

Early tips this week:

St Bedes Mentone vs Caulfield - Will be an interesting bout this one, as we work out where everyone sits. The Tigers play Brindisi St beautifully, put I'll stick fat with the Fields.
Fitzroy vs University Blacks - The Lions will be better at home, but not good enough. Blacks have the highest player points total for a reason.
Old Geelong vs Old Scotch - Cardinals by a long way.
Monash Blues vs Beaumaris - Blues will get it done at home. The margin will be a real indicator of how the Sharks are going.
Old Haileybury vs Parkdale - Vultures in the close one of the day.
Same please

Didn't watch the Monash game on the weekend, but did Beauy have a slip up in Rd.1, or are Monash really that bad?

Haileybury and Beauy tripped everyone up I think.
Haileybury was on the receiving end of a boundary umpires shocking mistake which gifted them a shot on the siren. Credit to the bloke who kicked with a checkside from the pocket, Vultures extremely unlucky and did enough to get in front after a close game all day.

Sharks had three top-liners out in Round One with a wedding; may have snuck a win against OG with those three. Were better this week, but suggest they will be competitive against bottom five but no chance against top four. Reserves who won last year's flag have been hammered by two reserve teams you wouldn't expect to be thereabouts in September, so depth a major concern after losing a lot of cattle to country leagues paying way over the odds

A couple of results last week have thrown me
So
Beauy looking better than I thought by 3 goals against a Haileybury side that is also better than I thought!!
Blacks by 4 goals
Parkdale just
Caulfield by 70+
OS by 70+

The first three games above should give a better idea of the contenders, challengers and strugglers. I still think Parkdale are a decent side and will press for 4th spot, however a loss albeit away will send them to 0-3. Will the real Beauy and OH please stand up? A win or close result will place the Tigers as a finals contender however last week was an old fashioned smacking against a team that should be early favourites.

Happy Easter all and sundry.

How’s this for some breaking news! I was told today that Brendon Goddard played footy in Tasmania in a one off appearance for $10,000.00 on Easter Friday.
So I googled Brendon Goddard Tasmania and look what I found......

https://www.theadvocate.com.au/story/6082107/goddard-leaves-his-mark/

Now, I also hear he has another couple
of paid games coming up in May, if the VAFA give him a permit they should be ashamed of themselves, but no doubt they will as it’s great for the competition.

I’m sure our friends at Beaumaris will be very interested after what happened with Milne a couple of years ago.

Beaumaris vs Old Haileybury - Sharks at home just, but this could go either way.
Fitzroy vs Caulfield - By a bit!
Old Scotch vs Monash Blues - By a bit!
Old Geelong vs Parkdale - They need a win and I think they might get there.
Uni Blacks vs St Bedes/Mentone - By a bit!

Goddard broke his hand it seems.
Perhaps he’s done and dusted.

Nothing on his hand tonight on Fox Footy

Def has. Will be disappointed as he’s been in ripping form for Metropolitan and now misses the golf pennant final this weekend. Has been excellent, winning close games of late on 19th and 20th holes. Div 1 pennant is great standard. Sure he’s no Anthony Mundine...yuk, that didn’t feel good...but still a great effort.

Ive seen him play and really can.

Same for me. I wonder whose margin will be larger between Scotch and Caulfield game?

Fairly easy to pick this week, OG and Parkdale the only close one. Bedford: Never, ever write off the Vultures!
Tips
Both the Tigers and Roys were much improved but at home the Tigers will salute by 19
Monash, despite their recruits and height look to be heading to the same sort of position as last year and OGs have been more than respectable, but i am going to put one more moment of faith in De Young's old boys. The blues by 4pts
The battle of the beach will be interesting. Again i like Parkside, and i will keep saying it, however the Sharks seemed to have settled and are more consistent. Beauy by 21pts
In a possible Grand Final preview ill tip the Fields by 7 pts
Finally OS will remind us that is not a race in two with a 70 point win

This rounds looks a little tougher to pick:
St Bedes Mentone v Fitzroy - I reckon this will depend on whether Hartung plays, but the Tigers just at home.
Monash Blues vs Old Geelong - OG's are used to a big paddock and won't mind this away game.
Parkdale v Beaumaris - The Sharks are just going a bit better.
Caulfield v Uni Blacks - VFL selection will play a role here. Think Blacks are travelling marginally better and have less injuries, but heart says Caulfield.
Old Haileybury v Old Scotch - This could get ugly.

It is pretty clear already that season 2019 is "done and dusted". OS v UB's to play off in the GF. I do
agree O Cauf. are on the rise but not quite enough this year.
Somewhat disappointing and a worry that the other teams are so far off the pace. Not solely due to OS and UB
having superstars in abundance, far from it. More that the others are so poor and getting poorer.

Pretty difficult to say that a season is "done and dusted", when you have three undefeated teams.

Who would you say these superstars are? They both seem to have even contributions from everyone each week, as well as depth in the magoos.

I do have to agree with you on the fact that the drop off seems to be getting greater, however, St.Bedes still won 3 A grade games and have joined the middle ranks this year, so it isn't all doom and gloom.

Winter, I said of the 3 undeafted, 2 will play in the GF and the 3rd will finish 3rd. I also said OS is far from having super stars, that is my point.
They are a good team, nothing special (the same for UB) but they are miles ahead of the others....St Bedes won 3 flags to far back to be a relevant point now. They are on the spiral down.

How do the VAFA make the gap smaller in BGrade. Would a 12 team A-Grade competiton help this?
