U/19s as well, RJ. To be quite honest, I've been amazed at the morale. We're still getting good numbers on the track and had 75 in the rooms last night for selection. So the commitment levels aren't waivering. It's simply a matter of the cattle and the level we're at. Losing 50 players in the last 2 seasons has been hard to cope with. Particularly when we lost 32 or 35 this year and the majority of those were in our 1st XVIII.
Outsiders can have a crack at the culture, but our first club function saw good representation of those players who have left attending the night. We drew a line by not allowing them to train with us if they're going to play elsewhere, but they've understood the club's reasons and there is no ill-will. Many are saying they'll come back, but that will remain to be seen.
Unfortunately for clubs like us, the VAFA rules have been relaxed so much so that players find it easy to return to their clubs making the initial decision to leave easier. In my 15-20 years I certainly feel like the club has never been better placed, off-field. We've simply been decimated by the lure of the almighty dollar.
