Am interested in Scribe's opinion, but from where I sat they were extraordinarily poor on the weekend. Otherwise, no complaints.

I'd concur in that we have had 3 pretty good umpiring efforts, but the two young fellas who umpired last Saturday probably failed to assert themselves in the early stages by paying frees which were there, and this set a bit of a precedent for the rest if the day. I still think in Premier C they should be pairing experience with youth. Still depending in availability its hopefully only on the odd occasion will we not get a 'wiser head' in the pair.

Looks a reasonable straightforward round of games this week; but then again .....

Hampton Rovers vs Marcellin
Monash Blues vs Parkdale
PEGS vs Rupertswood
Fitzroy vs Mazanod
Old Camberwell vs Banyule

We've had a fairly mixed bag of umpiring. What most of the boys have noticed however, is that there is a huge drop-off in quality of umpires from B to C. We've had some very interestimg decisions made for and against including one player being yellow-carded for saying that a team was "unravelling".

Then again, I suppose C-Grade teams deserve C-Grade umpires.

Umpires....
Been quite good this year, except for one bloke we had against PEGS......who thought the whole show was about him.....other than that they haven't been too bad.
7/10 I think is an appropriate mark.

There is an Act in place that covers what constitutes a breach and who is entitled to know what. Hinch could have taken the time to grasp those matters then pursue it through legal channels if there was legitimate reason to do so and report on that. But in true Hinch style he goes for sensationalism.

No more from me on this matter.

btw. There’s no need to shout. We can all read normal size font.

Sorry but I don’t understand what you mean by shout. The message was posted in normal font. The bold was simply to point out that if the VAFA were not aware then they could not be culpable. If they did then poor effort their part. I sense from this you are perhaps involved with the VAFA or at least with the umpiring fraternity?

I’m not a fan of Hinch either but he and other like-minded journos do not pursue things through the correct channels and make a lucrative living from this sort of thing. They are not going to change their ways to spare the VAFA from some embarrasment. I’m sure you don’t want or need a lesson in the law but the said person is a Registered Sex Offender as decreed by a court and as such that status is a matter of public record. He is also engaging in activity prohibited by the court order. Hinch is a ‘crusader’ against this sort of thing and as expected was all over it. Question here is whether or not the VAFA knew or turned a blind eye. They are a great organisation and get most things right but maybe not this one. Could have ended very very badly. Plenty more that could be said but I will also leave it there.

The Bears drew within 9 points early in the third term with a re-jogged forward line and some handy direct entries. What happened once the scoreboard showed 47-38 in OC's favour is hard to put a finger on.

Possession remained reasonably even and there were still quite a few inside 50 entries by Banyule, however they simply couldn't convert and slowly but surely OC's score clicked over until 25 minutes into the final term when we kicked our 14th straight unanswered goal.

Weird, but handy for us.

No bench including 3 key positions play. This meant that our on ball division played the entire second half without a rest.

You guys were fantastic and we were very disappointed with our last quarter as we were really competitive up till then.

Put Marcellin up in the flag contenders category. It's starting to open up slightly. Some big games coming up on Saturday should tell us a bit more. At the moment the ladder positions are an accurate reflection of where the teams we've played are at. Surprised that Mazenod are travelling as poorly as their record shows, but yet to see them this year. Having said that, they'd be confident of winning the next 3 and building momentum heading in to the half way point.

Who played well? It must have been a good performance to win like that....
Maybe UP The NEst can elaborate??

I was sitting in Epworth Emergency on Saturday and saw several players from VAFA clubs come in with shoulder and ankle problems.
It got me thinking about insurance (both medical and loss of income). I was wondering what happens at other clubs because I know the Sportscover and JLT Sports policies are worth 2/5ths of bugger all.
Does anyone know what their clubs do to cover players?

What happened?

We were informed that Tim has broken his neck in the game against Rupertswood. Our assistant coach was telling us that a Mazenod guy he knew is also out for the year with a broken neck as well.
Two serious neck injuries is enough I think....
I know we all want to win, and still play hard but I think we all need to take a little more care.
Good luck to Tim and the Mazenod fella....

In 2008 I ended up having surgery on both feet after a nasty run in with plantar fasciitis. Bloody painful indeed but not as painful and having to sit down and attempt to fill in one of the Sports cover claim forms. In fact, you have reminded me that I gave up and never even bothered to hand it in because I was so disillusioned with the jargon.
20 years of senior footy and never bothered to claim. I doubt I am on my own….

You're not. Went through the process last year and gave up. Too many forms you need to get filled in and signed by too many different people.
