Rooster and the other blokes wishing to take a swipe, please go ahead and swipe hard as whilst Roosters "source" is a bit off the money in terms of the extent of the incident, there was nothing in the rooms and 2 people were treated for bad face cuts, no ko"s. it is a disgrace and I eat a very very large piece of humble pie, I thought from what I had seen over my journeys that they the SFL had made significant inroads into behaviour in fact when I visited a number of VAFA, MPNFL and SFL games this year there was little diff between crowd behaviour. but this incident puts them back at below square one. What this does is not just smash the reputation that the SFL was slowly starting to develop but it also impacts on footy generally. And whilst Rooster you consider my posts off the mark and unresearched and I consider you pompous and inaccurate it doesn't change the fact that the SFL have let themselves down badly and also footy to a degree. Alcohol fuelled this incident not surprisingly and whilst the MPNFL allow alcohol and the VAFA have alcohol served during the game at Sandy upstairs during finals the SFL should review the policy to not allow alcohol to be sold in the ground. Recipe for disaster.

I am sorry for the likes of Mc Dougall and Holsworth that saved the SFL they worked hard for nothing it would appear.

So I apologise for trying to promote the SFL in your VAFA eyes the SFL did not deserve it and I take my medicine.

You shouldn't have to apologise, you cant help idiots mate they are everywhere \. Just unfortunate to happen at any sporting game to be honest. the sfl will recover from this I am sure.

An absolute disgrace no matter how you slice it. I am also hearing reports (which tend to be confirmed by posts on the SFL board) of further incidents following the Div 2 prelim.

Not disputing Holdsworth and Canizzo have tried extremely hard to clean up the SFL. But for a small comp it still seems racked with behavioral problems. I think it was only a couple of seasons ago that a club was booted out mid season. As I have said before all clubs (including my own) and all competitions (including the VAFA) have idiot supporters. But that idiocy is magnified 100 times when you add alcohol. SFL clubs have to tender for finals and in order to turn a profit they have to sell as much grog as they can, no matter how drunk or obnoxious the supporters are. So when you combine groups of people already blind drunk by half time in the reserves game with the emotion of GF it is a recipe for disaster.

And it seems that most of the ‘swiping’ is coming from SFL people. The only reason I even raised it was because the no alcohol policy is subject to much debate (and sometimes mirth) and the fact that you feel the need to both promote the SFL and run down the VAFA on the VAFA forum.

Perhaps I can be a little more objective but if I constantly jumped on the SFL board and put the boots in like you do to the VAFA and Ormond in particular I would expect to get it right back at me.

Fair enough. The SFL have had a massive whack. It is a timely reminder though for those at Sandy hosting VAFA matches to watch out, a bloke fell down the stairs at last years finals so blind drunk on his way to the three quarter time huddle.... of the reserves

The Sandy social club issue is a bit complicated. I’m sure the VAFA would prefer that they didn’t serve grog but unfortunately have no control over what goes on inside. You would hope that as they are bound by rules applicable to licensed premises and the massive penalties involved that they would abide by RSA requirements. Sandy FC have a lot to lose if they get knocked off for serving drunks, underages etc.

What's the standard of Premier B games like this year as opposed to Premier C matches. I'm planning to watch some Premier B games on the VAFATV service to get an idea of the standard of Premier B.
I'm as good as anyone to compare.

C Grade teams need to play with Grand Final intensity every week to stay up. If you can't you will struggle.

Beg to differ, you may want to check on CPL #19. He is the bloke in the herald sun photo being helped across the oval to his dad's car with the CPL president also helping him. On his way to hospital after being knocked out for 30 minutes after the game

In regards to the Rovers Under 19s, can anyone recall a team-any team, not just the Rovers Under 19s-that was 3-6 after Round 9, go 9-0 in the second half of the season, win all three finals in comprehensive fashion and ultimately be premiers?
It's something worth boasting about Jase.

What are the reasons do you think? Late starters? Injuries forcing numbers up? Some hard recruiting? Just early poor form? ...........

They were very good JC, but on any other day the result might have been different and I said might.

Perhaps drawing an extra long bow, bedford.:D

Rovers added a heap of top-notch Brighton Grammar boys in the back half of the season Jase after the APS season finished and they were a very different team to what played the first half of the season. I saw then against the De La 2nd U19 team in the 1st semi and they were impressive. Some senior quality players amongst them but with the Rovers 1s going so well it they remained in the 19s. The bloke who coached our 19s seconds called them as winning the flag a long way out, even when Oakleigh and Ormond where the best teams for most of the year.

One of the dumbest rules in the ammos is the 2 games qualification rule for U19s. Sad for those who got bumped I suppose but you always pick your best team in finals.

Banyule accepted into Northern Football League
Thursday, September 18, 2014
BANYULE Football Club was last night accepted into the Northern Football League at a special general meeting held at La Trobe University.

The majority of the NFL’s member clubs voted in favour of Banyule joining the league.

Banyule will join the NFL from the Victorian Amateur Football League (VAFA). In 2014, the club competed in Premier C of the VAFA.

Banyule will compete in the NFL’s Division 3 competition in 2015.

I would say both Heidelberg and West Heidelberg objected as they could no longer try and poach players from Banyule.

They should go ok in Divy 2 in 2016
The speculation was that those two clubs were opposed because they thought they were the ones likely to be most adversely affected.

Apparently Banyule is cashed-up so it must have been frustrating losing players to Northern Football League clubs every time dollar notes were waived under their noses.

To the OIGFC COMMUNITY,

22nd September 2014

The committee wishes to advise all concerned that Senior Coach Travis Ronaldson regrets to confirm his earlier advise that he is not in a position to commit his services to the club for season 2015 and has decided to step down to allow the club to move forward and appoint another coach.
