Not that long AM – last year in fact. Remember Beaumaris? And I fully expect they will be back in the top grade again next year.

I completely agree re the difficulties in staying at the pointy end. Even harder for un fashionable ACC old boys clubs such as ours to compete with the elite uni’s and APS schools. Simply don’t have the same networks and the better students get picked off while still at school. We just have to accept our lot and do the best we can.
Should have said the vast majority are non district clubs. Even Beaumaris, which is really the exception, has difficulty having sustained success at the very top level.

As for your club, I’m sure the Monders and other district clubs would love to have around 1200 youngsters coming through the system on a regular basis. Just sayin!

1200? Please....There might be that many at the college but what % play football? We have a good record of capturing most from the school who play footy but the number of kids playing the game has been dwindling for years. And to be brutal so has the quality.

My post related to the difficulty in remaining competitive in the top grade (something Ormond have been unfamiiliar with for a while now!) As Xavs, SKOBs, the Melbourne Uni teams and a few others have extraordinary networks that are getting bigger and better every year. Our best players stay at the club because of friendships and nothing else.

The Monders (and plenty of other district clubs) have really strong junior feeders so have a leg up on plenty of others. Hampton Rovers junior set up for example is unbelievably good so the pathway exists if properly managed - like Beaumaris have done. Just sayin ;)

Hey workhorse. To help me with my tipping, any Bullants suiting up for you this week?

Not sure as yet mate. Beaser has the Development Squad fighting for a finals spot so they may want them to be rested. Would only be 1-2 anyway as 2 have been playing with us for majority of the year.

Played 51 in total

Thanks for that, great work.

Thanks 2411. Goes a little way to explaining why the Monders and Krushers have done it hard this year.

Doesn't explain why OI aren't runaway favourites to take the silverware with such a dream run with injuries though.

We just have the best medical team and procedures for injured players.

You could view the numbers many ways
Injuries in general
Injuries to the teams key players
The dreaded travel festivals etc
The big thing is depth of the ressies team, Ivanhoe low 30s in seniors 67 in ressies, Maxie sorry but there can't be too much depth for consistency sake,

In the end Ormond and Oakleigh Marcellin etc, have been hurt the most and the result follows,

What it does do is allow opportunities to the brighter prospects in the unders to have a chance and hopefully not too exposed if playing in a depleted Snr line up,

Anyway just another way of looking at the year 3 to go

I believe Mr. Bedford might be pointing to the fact that the youngsters that have played , will be in junior finals from this week. Also some that were coming back from injury haven't come up. D1 is coming .They have plenty of talent coming up in the future, so should bounce straight back.

I hold you personally responsible for this appellation Scruff top. :)
Thankyou Mr Bedford.

Term of endearment and respect for a mega poster AM

Despite all that couldn't bring himself to name a couple of Fields players worthy of the TOTY.

Just couldn't do it

A bit like when Fonzy couldn't say he was "wrong"

I am happy to take the hit AM .....

No hit necessary, Scruffy. Just a bit of fun based on me knowing who the great man is.

btw. Can I pick the Fields with some confidence this week or are you going in undermanned again? I'm sure Rissoles would like to know too.;)

Without giving too much away AM I make the following points.

1. Should have two or three back....
2. Peninsula look in much better form than last time we met.
3. Caulfield home game.

Cheers

Round 16 Tips:-

All away teams for me.

Ormond vs Kew - Ormond just haven't got enough good cattle on the park...
Caulfield vs Peninsula - Second spot is up for grabs. The Pirates have a lot to prove.
Old Camberwell vs Old Ivanhoe - The Wellers have probably their best side in. OI will have to play their best to win.
Marcellin vs Williamstown - Marcellin has to keep winning to avoid relegation but Willy should be too strong.
Oakleigh vs Mazenod - my feeling is that Oakleigh has put their cue in the rack for 2016. Mazenod easily.

And congratulations to Sean Payze who records his 350th game this weekend. A wonderful Pirate and an even better bloke.
He is a Pirate legend and games record holder. Sam Newman says football teams don't get motivated by special occasions.
Tomorrow will prove that the stupid septuagenarian is, once again, sadly mistaken.
