You said itYou do have to feel for GE.
On one hand they will be proud that their junior program has produced at least 6 players that are playing A or B grade in 2026.
The flip side is that they would prefer them playing for GE and making a push for Prem C finals/promotion to B grade themselves.
They will be looking forward to those ambitious talented young players coming back to their roots and playing with their mates again one day...
They will never say it publicly but my sources tell me the name G. Martyn is mud down at Leila Rd. Not an honourable person is what I was told. Don't think he will dropping into GE on the way home after he leaves OH of a Saturday, not welcome at all.

Judas is alive.Yes-heard the same around the water cooler. I'm told effectively took their best two players , one of whom is 20 and played rep under 19s. Such a bad look and pretty dumb move ...will they really make that much difference in A section?
What goes around comes around, Phanto.Judas is alive.

What goes around comes around, Phanto.
It’s not so long ago that people from SKOB and Uni Blues were singing Marto’s praises. The tack togethers too. I don’t know him well, but those who did know him at Rovers say the accusation is out of character. At the moment, it’s hearsay mudslinging. Perhaps someone would care to give us some first-hand information. Say from the players concerned or Marto.
If the players initiated the request because they wanted to play at a higher level, that changes things markedly. Any coach saying no to good players wanting to test themselves at a higher level would have rocks in his head. Whether he coached them before or not.
Tend to agree. Marto is highly respected in local football and cricket circles. Players wanting to test themselves at a higher level has been happening forever so doubt his reputation would be tarnished much by this. It’s not as if they are following the coach to play in the same grade against their old mob. What goes around comes around, Phanto.

if you have been around the local sporting scene for as long as Marto I guess your popularity would never be unanimous. I am sure he has his detractors but for the most part, certainly within the circles I mix he is generally liked and respected as both a player and coach across both sports. Can't speak for local cricket but the local football circles would not be unanimous on that.
Your earlier, sensible and reasonable comment was on the money JJ.if you have been around the local sporting scene for as long as Marto I guess your popularity would never be unanimous. Is there something else at play here? Players leave to test themselves at a higher level every year so there must be more to it.
Always said it what goes around comes aroundYour earlier, sensible and reasonable comment was on the money JJ.
I wouldn’t be paying much attention to that poster. His accusatory posts are unattributed, and despite being asked to back up his - Phanto too - smears, neither have.
As for poaching, let me demonstrate the hypocrisy.
The very club that is bleating over losing a couple of players, in circumstances that aren’t clear yet, wiped out a whole junior team by poaching a substantial number of their juniors. Not allegations, they joyfully acknowledged the poaching. At the head of the pile-on, when I objected, was Phanto. Now his club loses a couple of players, and it’s boo-hoo, poor people us. In the process, a hell of a nice bloke is traduced.
As I said here and in the thread that covered the massive poaching, what goes around comes around. And here we are.
Marto would be laughing as he reads all of these comments, you can't blame him taking an offer to coach an A Grade club over a bottom end C grade club. In fact he would have been a fool not to take the new gig.I'll bite.
Bloke is a liar.
"Locked in, wouldn't consider somewhere else etc."
Two weeks later gone and via email to boot.
One way initiated re players leaving.
Don't blame the players but certainly not passive from the coach.
We wish the players well. We don't own them and they don't owe us jack- unlike the views of the AMs of the world.
Blokes about himself, which is okay. At A Grade he's found his level, need better character beyond that.
Nothing wrong with his or anyone else's decision, it's the way of carrying yourself that has people fired up.
Bleating? There is a whole thread dedicated to Ormond posters bleating about their perceived exclusive rights to players that have never worn an Ormond jumper.Your earlier, sensible and reasonable comment was on the money JJ.

Glen Eira was relegated to Division 3 at the end of 2017. Since then, won a heap of flags. Promoted to Prem C at the end of 2023. Each year since, most punters predict them to be relegated. Their actual results were 6th, and 6th.Marto would be laughing as he reads all of these comments, you can't blame him taking an offer to coach an A Grade club over a bottom end C grade club. As for players heading to where he's going, I don't like it, but who can blame some kids for wanting to play at the highest level? Every kid should aspire to play A Grade, the only way for clubs in the lower grades to stop losing players is to not be in the lower grades, unfortunately.
But that is becoming harder and harder with the size of the old boys clubs who need to be restricted on size , eg Xavs are a jokeMarto would be laughing as he reads all of these comments, you can't blame him taking an offer to coach an A Grade club over a bottom end C grade club. Listen sport , wasn't talking about Ormond ! your nearly as bad as our old mateOk then the bottom say 30 players won't have a club and will come to Ormond-is that the plan? have you seen the standard of the low grade thirds comp-these would be the guys missing a game and leaving if you cut a team or two. Nobody from seniors reserves or the top unders team or even the top thirds team would be the ones affected so not sure it would make any substantial difference to anyone.
Wow! One example, Briza. Case closed.

Signed what ?
