Can someone please re fresh my memory. Listening on SEN. D Russell banging on about how good Mark Williams was as a Coach with a huge footy brain. I was under the impression that his "sojurn" with AJAX was an unmitigated disaster. He couldnt have been less interested..Have I got
this right?
I believe it was a win / win for both parties when Mark left.

Choco Williams did not understand the culture of VAFA footy.

Anyway, back onto premier section. I think the sides to watch are SKOB, Old Xavs, OMs and Collegians. I see Blues dropping off the pace this year.

Since Gill put the broom thru the AFL employment ranks, there's sure to be some Uni Blues looking for a real job..

They have confirmed the following:

Green has since departed, but it has gained former AFL pair Jay Kennedy-Harris and Sam Grimley.

Flanagan, Jeremy Taylor and Connor Lappin were set to be absent this season but will return next year.

“They weren’t going to play this year but they’ll be playing next year,” Rourke said.

“Fortuitously for us, ‘Jezz’ had a placement in Geelong as a doctor, Piers and ‘Lappo’ were in Sydney for a year, so at this stage it looks like we’ll have everyone back.”

Looks like they'll go ok...

My lions I'm sure will be busy once again signing players in coming weeks. From all words, plenty of players have been attracted by the recent coaching appointment of Jared Rivers.

Just saw that Jaryd Cachia (ex Carlton) is going to be a decent get for SKOB. He is also a school graduate, so he will be a 1 pointer.

Thoughts on David Armitage departing Mike? Understand the club landed him a decent job in his chosen profession and thought that might deserve at least one years service.

Bonbeach got into him with $$$$$ and maybe some Coaching position later....Just gotta keep pushing on, otherwise you drop
off the "pace" quick smart.

As anyone would know, we wanted him to play for us but the club understands that these players are not contracted to Collegians nor any other VAFA club so they can play wherever they like. It works both ways, after playing 2 games with us last year, Alex Morgan (ex North and Essendon) committed full time to Collegians in 2020 and will play next year.

As a club we roll with punches very well. For example, I recall correctly towards the end of 2015, Collegians were heavily chasing Kieran Harper, who even trained a couple of times with Collegians, before choosing Uni Blues where he sat out the entire 2016 season with an ankle or foot injury.

From what I understand, the mindset of players and coaches is that the Lions will be looking to go deep into September 2021.

Thanks Mike. I get that players come and go but if you get someone a good job in the profession of their choosing it does leave bitter taste when they depart without playing a single game.

I also expect the Lions to be thereabouts in 2021, although I think a few more a capable of challenging then we have seen in recent seasons.

Look it does leave a bit of a regret as a fan of what could have been but I understand that everyone's circumstances are different. I was personally more annoyed when blokes have told our club that we had rubbish facilities and weren't going to win many games so they were going to play at another Premier club.

I agree, next season will be once again a very hotly contested competition in Premier Section with some very strong sides.

The Lions are back in training and looking for a big 2021.

A few handy assistant coaches in Jordie McKenzie, John Meesen and Fergus Watts helping out Jared Rivers.

Didn’t Jordie McKenzie commit to De La last season? Or am I wrong?

Unfortunately Jordie could not get a medical clearance to play due to repeated concussion issues. Has retired and decided to go down the coaching path. Joining his mate Jarred Rivers at the Trott as an assistant coach.

More broadly I wonder how the year off and Covid will impact on VAFA clubs. I expect that some will not have missed playing as much as they perhaps thought. If not getting paid to play, Tradesman's rates for Saturday work might seem more attractive than having a kick. I also wonder if they job network has taken a hit and the ability to attract 'outsiders' might be impacted? Interesting times indeed.

I see that former Magpie Adam Oxley has found his way to TH King via the VAFA clearances.

Will be a very good player at this level running off half back or as a 3rd defender or even on a wing.

The comments from Uni Blues regarding Jared Moore's signing seem to be a bit over the top. They make it sound as though the rest of the 9 teams will be playing 2nd fiddle to them in 2021 - I don't share the same opinion.

I am also aware that the VAFA have basically gone rogue (in contrast to other leagues) and dropped the maximum points cap for Premier section to 43 points for 2021 with all other grades to be at 45 points.

The biggest beneficiaries of any such points reduction are the well established all male schools with strong football programs at their respective schools who dominate the top of Premier most years (Xavs, SKOB) who will have a lot of 1 point players. Yet, even though this will benefit them, they are in agreement with most other Premier clubs in calling out the VAFA for deciding the best standard competition in the association will have the least points allocated (bizarre).

Things don't look to be going very smoothly down at HQ at the minute.
