Big call on the snowdogs, I'm banking on a slow start from Xavs. Also heart says Coll to get up, head says otherwise.
Old Trinity
OM’s
OB
OX
SKOB.

I wouldn’t expect any team to be anywhere near full strength round one, it’s been a long time between drinks.

Let’s hope everyone gets through and win or lose, enjoys a beer with fellow VAFA players and supporters Saturday evening.
Go VAFA footy!

10 out of 10 for Old Xavs teams yesterday. It’s going to be a big year for the claret and stout...

watched OMs v Caulfield, Tyoical Elstwerwick conditions. Caulfields 2 big forwards will kick a lot of goals. Conditions and delivery did not suit. OMs much stronger but Dunnell may not play again. Absolutlely dominated, OMs had much more pace and spread and the debut brothers Nichols and Haysman were very good.Several other recruits yet to play.

Watched Collegians play SKOB on Saturday. Things I noted:

Despite Ben Darrou having a really impressive game on him, Tom Boyd is going to be just too big and strong for most defenders in the VAFA. Boyd was no world beater and as I said, Darrou beat him on numerous occasions, however with the size of TH King and how it's a kick from the centre square to full forward, Boyd will be very hard to match up on as he will likely kick a goal a quarter even if he is only winning 1 in every 5 contests like he did on Saturday.

SKOB have the beautiful luxury of having a rover (Jok) who is taller than their ruckman and has speed to burn with great skills, he will be up there in Woodrow contention for sure in 2021.

Collegians have an absolute star in David Mirra. Mirra fitted in perfectly at centre half back and his leadership was tremendous and his courage in going back with the flight on numerous occasions was a sight to behold. Good luck playing on him if you're an opposition forward.

Collegians' midfield will cause a fair bit of danger this season and I noted that Collegians under Jared Rivers seemed to rest Viv Michie at full forward, which was terrific to see, as it is great to see the best players out there on the ground for longer.

The Lions seemed to blood a number of youngsters and they will be interesting to see this season.

A shocking weather day but a great day of amateur football with two sides going at it with everything.

How did Tommy Sheridan go?

Sheridan did a few nice things and will be better for the run (off limited training) but he was not suited to the smaller ground out at TH King.
Watched the video last night, SKOB lacked some crumbing forwards whilst Collegians lacked a big strong forward, dare I say, a Tom Boyd type. Plenty of star players for Collegians against a star team, the Lions depth may be a worry as we move forward.

Looking forward to this week, it looks like Old Brighton v SKOB down at Brighton Beach Oval will be the game of the round after their impressive wins in round 1.

Some interesting player point tallies from the weekend. Most clubs barely scratching the surface but Blues used 45/45 in a losing side. Some clubs that have copped a bit of grief over imported players (Skevs) using stuff all.

Also didn't have Fasolo playing. Love that Brighton beat UNIAFL (thought they'd won the flag in january) with all schoolboys bar one. TRULY, FTLOTG

Agree that they are largely home grown and nowhere near the points cap, nor ever likely to be, but don’t assume that Player Points allocations that appear on the website are correct. Reuben Hayward is not an old boy. He played the last 2 seasons at DLS, played juniors at Hampton Rovers and Ormond and played VFL in 2019. Should be a 5 not 1. I don’t know about others (there could be more) but I do know Hayward is not a 1. Whether we think the points is a good idea or not, if we are going to have them visible then they should at least be accurate.

i would agree with that sentiment. In our Grade, the average points used was 27.1 with Ormond being the outlier on 39 points thanks to Marty Suckling.
maybe just cut the points to 40 in 2022.

Forty player points is still too high, should be no more than 35 points for next season
