The comments from Uni Blues regarding Jared Moore's signing seem to be a bit over the top. They make it sound as though the rest of the 9 teams will be playing 2nd fiddle to them in 2021 - I don't share the same opinion.

I am also aware that the VAFA have basically gone rogue (in contrast to other leagues) and dropped the maximum points cap for Premier section to 43 points for 2021 with all other grades to be at 45 points.

The biggest beneficiaries of any such points reduction are the well established all male schools with strong football programs at their respective schools who dominate the top of Premier most years (Xavs, SKOB) who will have a lot of 1 point players. Yet, even though this will benefit them, they are in agreement with most other Premier clubs in calling out the VAFA for deciding the best standard competition in the association will have the least points allocated (bizarre).

Things don't look to be going very smoothly down at HQ at the minute.
Agree Mike. Who do those clowns at HQ actually think this will benefit. It actually plays right into the hands of the powerful old boys clubs. There are a quite a few district clubs in B grade. How is a points reduction going to help Williamstown, Beaumaris, Parkdale etc recruit players if they make it into Premier?

Once again absolutely correct.

I have heard that HQ has gone out saying that Caulfield won B grade in 2019 with on average around 30 points per week. No disrespect to Caulfield on their flag, they're not easy to win but they were clearly the best team in Premier B in 2019 and rightfully trounced Old Scotch in the grand final, but the side they put out that day is simply not able to compete with the top tier sides in Premier section. This can be evidence by the fact they have gone and recruited 3 players in Eddy (6 points - ex AFL), O'Rourke (6 points - ex AFL) and Gilchrist (1 pointer - as he's a Caulfield Grammarian). I'm assuming Brendon Goddard won't be playing there in 2021, but those three recruits will be in their best 3-5 players week in and week out.

Even Old Xavs with their recruits from 2020 and likely 2021 will add Gowers, Lachie Howe, Valles and Noone - all former AFL or VFL players as 1 pointers as they went through the school. Now, I have no issue with these players moving to Xavs and in fact it's great for a supporter to watch high level players going at it, but it does show the ability of male APS schools to be at an advantage.

A club like mine (Collegians), who are respected as a club and are able to go out and recruit ex AFL and VFL players based on connections with current players / due to our location being close to the city for blokes who want an easy place to get to for training if they're working in the city (that will happen less and less now) are now at a disadvantage too.

O'Rourke is interesting. Is he in the best 15 players in the league next year?

CGFC were 28 points on GF day, with only 3 players over 1 point. Goddard has retired, while Page & Dobosz will both be 1 pointers in 2021.

The jump is big, hence the recruitment. But the base is Caulfield kids, has been for a long time and is unlikely to change.

Please forgive my ignorance but who are Page and Dobosz? Eddy kicks goals for fun, but is currently playing NTFL, I hope he doesn't get injured. I also noticed OX announced Wagner from Melbourne as a 6 point recruit. From what Uni Blues said in the paper last week, there is no point anyone playing this year because they will win the flag, interesting PR. Even funnier is their third coach in three months, he's feral.

The article quotes from Blues were just laughable. No one wins a flag in December, especially when their coach has not had more than a couple of training sessions with them. An example of the high brow nature of the boys from Melbourne University's picket fence as opposed to Uni Blacks who seem to be far less arrogant in their approach to things down there.

Just had a look at Fox Sports' feature on all the delisted AFL players and it looks like Gowers will likely line up for Southport this season and not Old Xavs.

I did however note that Darren Minchington would be likely lining up in the VAFA from the same article.

Some Old Xavs friends tell me that they’ll be that strong Ben Silvagni won’t get a game in their seniors. They will need to be strong as the grand finalists from last season have added some serious talent as well, as have Collegians. Then we have Caulfield who are the dark horses.

Thanks for the update Brian.

Plenty of recent posters on here who support St Kilda now, they can't all be Brian.
Yep. Surely just a coincidence.;)

I actually welcome his return (sorry – welcome his return if he was to return). He is across all things VAFA and usually comes through with some decent mail.

If nothing else waiting for someone to call out the latest iteration of this username keeps us entertained.

Hello all great Big Footy posters, welcome to 2021! It's been a dry spell but I am back, sorry to those who despise me and hello to the one who doesn't. To end any of the speculation, this is me, I'll message Bedford, Max Leader, Mike Olotripo(nice name Mike lol) via Facebook messenger to confirm it's the REAL BRIAN and not an imposter as may have been the case for the last year or two or three.

Let's all play nice and hello HedgeFund :)

Do we have any news on what is going on around Premier section?

I know Collegians will be back at training next week and would expect all clubs to be back after Australia Day.

Still waiting on the fixture from HQ but I think round 1 will be played on 10 April (weekend after Easter) so we are less than 12 weeks away now.
