Hey Guys.

Whilst Im not a Collingwood fan, I believe that the Magpies will win the Premiership this year. Yes its a massive call to make at such a tender stage of the season, however Collingwood have the components of a successful side. Being a Melbourne base team it does give you an advantage as you do not have to travel as much.

However Im of the opinon (and a rather early one) that Collingwood will go all the way in season 2006 and deservedly be premiers. Best of luck next week.

I also have a funny feeling in my bones.

Que the multitude of Collingwood supporters telling you to stop jinxing us and to keep a lid on it.

But next week should be a belter.

Thankyou Alexis , but it is only round 6 and we could very conceivably lose to Carlton today in the wet.
Then injuries come into it and then there are better skilled sides with better midfields like WC and Adelaide , so in the end I would be very happy to scrape into the 8 this year and give guys like Thomas ,H.Shaw ,Rusling and co a chance to experience finals action.

thanks for the post :)
but sadly i dont think this is the year for us
but you never know

Yes but West Coast have a very weak Forward line. I myself get quite fustrated with our foraward line. Best of luck for next week, it should be a entertaining match.

Thanks for the kind regards, Alexis. :thumbsu:

I hope we can win the premiership, but it's simply too early to call at the moment. Anything can happen in the next month, I'm just taking it one week at a time.

A couple of weeks ago I said Adelaide are the benchmark and I will stick with that comment. IMHO they look the goods at the moment.

huge call Alexis, I really dont know where Collingwood will finish or if we get to finals how far we can go, I too have that feeling that its possible but atm I have no idea. I'm quite happy to ride out the year and see what happens, take each week as it come instead of jumping to conclusions to quickly.

You will finish in the top four for sure. Just watch, your a very good football outfit.

I think our midfield is underrated. IMO we are as good as there is in the league, including Adelaide and better than West Coast at getting the ball out of the packs and contested situations, with the likes of Licuria, Burns, O'Bree, Swan, Buckley, Holland, Fraser(very good at ground level) etc, who will get in there and also read the play so well. It is only skill and pace wise that we fall behind, and that is only because those same players don't have that ability, minus Bucks and maybe Burns. But when we rotate on the outside the likes of Lonie, Didak, Johnson, Thomas, Davis then we don't lack in those areas. It's just that for the Eagles and Crows, their skilled players are also their in and under players. But at the moment we have our players who extract the ball and they get it whenever possible to the outside players who have the skill and pace. This I think allows our midfield to compete with the best.

We have a good fixture. Not many interstate games, and play some average sides twice. It will all hopefully go our way if we can keep our boys on the park fully fit.

Thanks for the compliments mate, most opposition supporters try to put us down and belittle our efforts, even though all we can do is play whoever is on the park...

Our match coming up against WC will show us where we're at I'm sure. Even if we lose, as long as we're competitive and don't get blown away it'll show we're the real deal. Not many interstate teams can beat WC at Subi you know.

Still, I am naturally an optimistic person and I think the Pies have every chance to put on a good show at Subi. If our (underrated) midfield can go close to breaking even with yours then we are in with a shout.

If we are a genuine flag chance this year then we must be competitive in our interstate matches, and win most of our home matches.

Cousins looks like possibly being back in for West Coast so we are going to have to be at our absolute best in the middle. It would be good if Rhyce Shaw can get back into it next week, because we will need his extra pace off half back and in the middle on the Subi ground. Someone like Pendles could also come in handy with his skills.

Still think it is too early, After the next 3 weeks then we can say for sure if we are contenders or just pretenders. Basically I think where we are going to be at the end of the year will be summed up in the next 3 weeks. So lets just sit back and wait yet before we make stupid claims such as we are flag contenders. Carlton supporters thought they were when they won the wizard cup, Melbourne thought they were till they lost 7 in a row in the 2nd half of the season, Sts thought they were until the couldnt match it in the finals.
Seriously need to approach this conservatively and with caution. Like Mick said, where we are on the ladder is irrelavent in round 6. But given that we have only lost to adelaide when I think we prehaps lacked some form, and werent sure of what our style of play should be and what was needed to win games and the fact that it was only rnd 1, I think Collingwood has every chance of matching it with the WCEs and the Adelaides and WBs. If we continue to play as a team and share the work load and all contribute rather then have individuals carry us to wins, we definitly give ourselves every chance at having a shot at the 8 and top 4. Flag contenders yet... way 2 early.

All you magpie fans are living in a dream world! fair enough you are playing good footy, and are top of the ladder, but to think you will win the flag is a joke! Come September, when it all counts, i cant see you beating the likes of West Coast, Adelaide and even Sydney.

I say write this thread up again at say around Round 16 then we'll talk about it seriously as for now way too early to tell the first goal is to make the finals and win 12 games minumum, when that's achieved we'll talk about winning final games!!! We need 7 more at least in 16 rounds.
Canga!:thumbsu:

You tool! Im a WC supporter, and Im telling you now the Eagles will loose to the Pies. And Syndey wont even make the finals. Im being deadly serious when I say this, Collingwood are the team to beat in 2006. Adelaide, meh WC even beat them at AAMI.

yep its in the bag, awesome comeback by the pies, just waiting for 2007 season to start now
