Match day yeah takes too long and is quite difficult to get the balance right. Ive done the simulating but for me I lose too many games doing it that way. I feel the clubs are too quick to sack you. Noone gets sacked after two years in real life and theres no 'improvement factor'. Its either make finals or get sacked. I got sacked after two years as Port Adelaide after finishing 17th and 10th. Then took on the job as GC who'd finished 16th & 17th in the first two years and took them to 13th and 9th, then got sacked. Retook the job at Port Adelaide, who'd finished 17th and 17th and finished 12th and 9th before getting sacked again.

Havent really begun playing again after that as got annoyed at making changes to the lists and not having the time to actually see any results.

I usually sim the matchday til I need to do interchange. It shortens the game and I like having a bit of control...plus its pretty cool when ur watching ur team make a comeback.

I've found that by having the better midfielders on the half-forward flanks works well as they can hit their targets better. Also if you're freo try ibbo as forward pocket, duff and rodger in the back pockets, fyfe on the right wing and hill on the left plus MJ is a rock at fullback. Also houghton does the best job for me at half forward despite being 68.

13-9 isnt bad, I was 1-5 at one stage.

I got Ibbo/Mundy playing HFF and they did quite well all season. I'll give Fyfe and Houghton a bit more of a game. I tried Fyfe heaps of positions early but he was average so I made him a sub.

Lost the prelim to Collingwood by 4 goals, was close all game. Missing a few players and my stars were very poor.

Can't get my HFF's to do enough.

Had no issues really, gotta check who I traded out. I know Barlow was one of them (doesn't play well for me).

Won the premiership, Judd got the brownlow and AA, Palmer + Sandi + Pav AA once again, Pav got norm smith then felt it necessary to retire at 31. Hired him as a gun forward coach though as my previous one conveniently retired.

Every year, some Assistant coaches, scouts etc. will leave due to family matters or whatever, to allow the retired players have a shot at assistant coaching etc.

How do you manage to keep all that under the salary cap???

Good way is to negotiate first, then the player will give you another offer a bit below their initial one. Or if a player is looking for a long term contract then give them 5 years and less of a salary. Also having less players on your list will cut 200,000 for each player you don't have.

When simming, HFF won't do anything. Actually not true, I've found some players to do well there. I know for a fact that Alan Didak plays well there but I haven't bothered to figure out what kind of players play well at that position since I just use it to get games into my younger players.

Just won the flag with GC from 8th. Only made finals by 1 win and less than 1%. Came into form at the right end of the season. Of the 4 games Essendon lost all year, 3 were against me (1 in SF). Sam Day 124 goals
Must admit, bit of a fluke...

He does play, just not for long (last qtr or so). I've had my sub get as many as 15 disposals but yes, I do agree that they don't get much game time Mine probably only average about 5 disposals and rarely kick any goals. I also have the odd game where they don't touch the ball, probably not playing.
I'm not sure if this will help but if your game does have a bug where they never play, I reccomend downloading the patch from the official website if you haven't already. Because I only got the game a couple of weeks ago, I downloaded the patch straight away and have had hardly any problems with anything

I just got Paddy Ryder in the year before, Thomas and Rioli in this trade week and some reason (i was poor to assume) they were just released as I thought the assistant would do it correctly.

Won 3 premierships in a row but to lose Judd to retirement, my only good ruckman, a few good players I traded to get Thomas and Rioli in, it's gonna be a hard season.

Same Thing happened to me when it released my 1st round draft pickwho was projected 98 and Ed Lower who was in career best form.

Yeah I've learnt that lesson before. Assistant signing doesn't work very well. They keep the blokes playing crap and the blokes with poor ratings and peaks (they are cheap) and delist the stars cos they cost too much You can end up with a messy list at the end of it. Do all the signing yourself next time, its actually not too bad and is usually more effective
Also, you could have just loaded from the last save if it f****d you over that badly. Thats another good technique to use if some weird bug kicks in

How do you do the signings yourself? Everytime I try a message comes up saying I need a certain amount of open spaces and goes back to the list.

I havent had that happen in trade week because ive gone into the contracts after to have a look and offer them big contracts. But, for me, it does happen regularly for players drafted in the pre season draft. I picked up Joel Selwood in the first year with first pick in the pre season draft only for as soon as the drafts were over, he was nowhere to be found on my or anyones list. I figured I must have pressed the wrong button or something but it happened again the following year when I picked Prestia with a pre season pick only for him to not exist as well.


Usually with the contracts you jsut go to the contracts screen and start talking to the players who expire that year. One thing I have noted is that if you try to sign players to contracts during the season, then for some reason it includes the current season in the contract, eg. during season 2011, a 2 year contract will expire at the end of 2012 so in reality its only a 1 year contract. At the end of the season, a 2 year contract would expire at the end of 2013.

Its a handy loophole especially if you have plenty of cap space available because you can heavily front load contracts to the current season which opens up a stack of space on a yearly basis

Pretty sure its just a simple drag and drop, drag the player you want to come on over the player who is on the field you want him to replace.

Try ibbo as forward pocket, hill left wing and fyfe on the right. Johnson is a rock at FB and crowley is a good defender for HFF.

If its a bug, post it on the official PC forum and Ad or one of the other blokes will help you out and try to fix it used it a couple of times last year and it worked a treat
If you haven't already, make sure you have the latest patch installed and that should fix it up if it is a bug or glitch.
I don't do matchday but from what I have done I'm pretty sure it is just a drag-and-drop (as was suggested) system. I also know that you can set rotations before the start of the match in the latest version as well, if that helps

If anyone is playing as another team who isn't the GC, try your hearts out to get big Sammy Day!!! I know it'll be a task but trust me, he's an absolute superstar!!!! In my GC career he's kicked 100 goals every season except his first Half way through this season and I think he's already got 70 (average of 5 or 6 goals a game). Should increase his peak to 100 too (has on my game)...

Sammy did the same on mine wining the coleman in hs forst year aswell. In the first year about 15 out of 22 rising star nominees were from GC, did this happen with everyone else.
