Premiership sides who drank their own bath water?

Yep, Blues were cooked in the second half of 96. A prelude to 97 and several players such as Kernahan, Diesel & J Madden retiring over 2 years.
You guys had some good wins that season over WCE, Bombers and Cats in the last game where Murphy kicked 5. But yeah just not good enough. Thumped twice on the road in the finals at Subi and at The GABBA. lions mauled you again in another final up there in 99 lol. Add 2009 in that list and it wasn't a happy hunting ground.

The 2009 Gabba final in the last quarter was a shocker. We kicked the first goal for a 30 point lead but then folded like a pack of cards. Vossy was coaching Brisbane.

Silly thread. WC made finals in 1993, 1995, 2007 and 2019.

1993 was an unusually even shortened 20 game season. 13 wins for 1st on the ladder 10 for 12th, then two teams on 4 wins and Sydney on one. WC finished 6th and pumped 3rd place North at Waverley before losing to Essendon who finished top. Still won the flag the following year to make it 3 GFs in 4 years and 2 flags.

1995 finished 5th then went out in straight sets under the rules of that final 8 system. Dudded by the MCG rule the following year. Then again in 99.

2007 everyone knows what happened losing the QF by 3 points with Cousins doing his hammy and Judd on one leg, then losing the SF with Cousins, Judd, Kerr all out in extra time.

2019 finished 5th. I am convinced that had we beaten Richmond in Rd 22 (they finished 3rd with one more win and won the flag) we would've gone on to win the premiership, but that's just an opinion. Small margins in footy. We don't beat Port after the siren in 2018 we don't win that flag.

No one rated the 2010s Eagles anyway. We were supposed to finish last in 2015 (RIP Wallsy) then made the GF in what is generally regarded as a weak year. Lost to the Bulldogs from 6th in 2016, scraped into 8th in 2017 on % in the last round and made the semis, then won one flag in another year people regard as weak. Weren't far off the pace in 2019/20 then the less said about since the better. But it's not like we were winning 17/18 games each year and playing in multiple GFs like Hawthorn, Sydney, Richmond etc.
Looking simply at the opening and closing home and away games of the 2019 season, both of them are considerable chokes.

Would be like Brisbane opening next season with a 50 point loss to North, and then missing a top 4 spot in the last round with a loss at home to Melbourne, leading them to be knocked out by a team who doesn’t play in the GF.

We did allright for the most travelled team in the finals.
Only the haters would think otherwise.

You were 5 goals up? That's piss poor. I forgot about that.

I didn't know Judd and Kerr missed vs the Dons. And those players were out vs the Power. Kerr, Fletcher and Hansen too? And you only lost by 3. Unreal. I do recall Port kicking a couple after Cousins went off. Eagles at full strength beats the Power with ease.

Should have been a Geelong-West Coast Grand Final.
The wild party culture cost West Coast a serious chance at those 2005 and 2007 premierships. I don't even know how the Eagles won the 2006 premiership with such a terrible culture, imagine had the culture been serious.

Mid-2000s, even before 2006, the culture was so bad, that had it been everybody all serious and locked in, that could have seriously been a 3-peat, or at the very least back to back, the party culture was costly.
