The other thing is, I can't remember us being linked to so many names during the season as we have this year. We've reportedly offered big money to Hannebury, Shiel, Treloar and Motlop, we're said to have interest in Yarran, Aish and even guys like Duggan, Weller, Crozier and Jake Kolodjashnij. We're throwing whatever we can at the wall and seeing what sticks. IMO we won't be coming out empty handed this time.

Also have:
  1. A genuine reason to aggressively trade (premiership chance?).
  2. Future picks to trade.
  3. A weak draft meaning this years draft picks are more expendable.
  4. A few players who might be looking for more opportunity (Astbury/Griffiths?).

Patrick Dangerfield is a free agent type. I would be seriously let down if we picked him up.
Dangerfield is in a different league to Chaplin Knights and Hunt our recent free agent types we've signed recently. Picking him up would be great but unlikely

This thread is obviously reactionary to our trade periods of past years. However this trade period will be different and I remain optimistic for the following.

I believe we haven't gone as hard at the players we've targeted as our number one priority was to retain our star players. This in turn creates loyalty and a culture that players buy into. Where we are now, we have Deledio, Cotchin, Riewoldt, Rance, Martin, Edwards, Ellis and Miles, the core of your top tier players all locked away on relatively long term deals. Previously we haven't had that and we could have quite realistically run the risk of bringing in say an Adams and Tyson for the loss of one or two of the names mentioned above due to this rigid pay structure we obviously have. Now that they're all locked away, I see it as we have nothing to lose and a free hit at bringing in quality players knowing we have our stars locked away. In hindsight, it's quite clear we've been building for this year.

Maybe I'm just the optimist but we will bring in quality this year.
Look, you're fairly new here, but making logical arguments and being level headed isn't tolerated here bro.

:D we'd all be calling for his head on his first turnover

I'm confident we'll land at least two decent players this year.

Treloar would be great. But I think it will be Motlop and Yarran. And I'm more than OK with this.

Hang on I got told I shouldn't have started this thread, but if I put this in the Hartley thread I'd be accused of trying to hijack the thread.
sorry i should have clarified, i meant "i agree" as in, i agree with this thread being started for topics such as this, i am over scrolling through endless amounts of dribble that some ppl post on here so a seperate thread for a topic such as this is a great idea

I couldn't give a shit if we don't end up with anyone of note. It's not the end of the world.

I don't know why people get so worked up whether we land other teams players or not

Apologies my good man.

As it is this thread isn't about discussing players we should/shouldn't be going after, it's more about the club not being able to get things done that need to be done to land quality players at trade time, hence the way I feel heading into this years trade period. Sure we've been linked to plenty, but none of them have really been solid stories, more like the media reading boards like Big Footy and jumping on a strong sounding rumour.

Yep I agree 100%. People seem to think AFL is more like soccer and American sports where players move with far more ease when in reality about only 5% of players move and very rarely high profile recruits. Yes there are more moving every year but the majority of players who move are Jason Tutts, Liam Jones, Koby Stevens, Mitch Hallahans, Mark Whileys, Kyle Cheneys ect..

Dangerfield
Kreuzer
Aish
Bennell
S.Selwood
Suckling

That would be my target list this off-season.

Wonder what sort of cap space we have floating around...

If we could get the last 5..... Dreaming
