For those of you that have already started preparing for DT '08, can I ask why?

I mean seriously, does it help you in the long run? Did you do it last year and where did you rank?

I agree it a waste of time. When the game is actually up thats when the fun begins. Its all guessing this time of year.

Good coaches have short lists done, not final teams;)

I think you should write all your thoughts at the end of the season. I just flat out forget through the off season - it's too damn long. Other than that just go watch some other sports (epl for me).

It's basically what I have put down on my site - I haven't touched it in ages but intend to when things start to get going.

lol, ok heres the reason, ive played 5 years now and preparing early and scouting for improving players and reading through training reports and looking at who under preformed last year compared to previous years, and looking at coaches and how they may change there game plans has given me these bragging rights.

2002 - 2000th somewhere like that
2003 - 600th something like that
2004 - 43rd
2005 - 110th
2006 - 25th
2007 - 6th with 4 weekly top 10s and a footy.

preparing is fun to ahaha, if you need some stats ask me :)

Nothing wrong with preparing early sante.

I have 2 squads of 30 + lots of other players on my watchlist.

It helps to make a team early imo. well it helps me visualise what strategy I will go into 08 with my starting squad.

Trainign reports are the way to go...but now days club boards have hidden boards that only thier supporters can access to read them.

stuff like time on ground, possessions per minute, points per minute things like that. preparation is the way to go, people who are constantly at the top will agree with that.
i could give you a team that will make top 100 right now but to give you a team that will win the come will take time.

ahah k, few things ive noticed over the years ill give a few tips.

1. don't get second year players tend to always under perform and rarely better there first year.

2. go for players who get the loose ball and get a lot of receives, because if they get a lot of receives means they are the goto man.

3. get an honest footballer over are flashy one. get dane swan and daniel cross and carrazzo before you take a judd, dal santo.

4. get players who are work horses, because you know they will give there best.

Barone, I have been doing DT for a while but I never really succeed. Out of curiosity, what would be the best way to structure your team? Also, how do you usually do your picks?

(It's actually quite sad, I know hardly anything of soccer and I'm currently around 7,000 in EPL fantasy game, highest was top 2,000 and thats out of over 1.5 million people. In DT, I have never been above 20,000 out of 200,000 and I know much more about AFL :S.)

i have a structure of players whom i get every year depending on price but in the last few years the list of players have changed due to retiring players, position changes, age, injuries and game plans.

id love to tell you all my list but i can't but the ones on my list are just the back to my team its the players i pick around them that matter the most. such as bock last year eventually earnt enough and i brought Chapman and so forth. plus finding talent like jake king and jesse smith is big look for a diamond in the rough.

to be honest this years list of main players has changed dramatically compared to recent years.

I prepared last year and lost motivation.

I know the rough idea of who I want, and will try to do something different - I keep getting laughed down by mates when I tell them that my starts mids will be Peverill, Watson, and Swan, with Malcheski in defence. lol I know it's silly, but you need something out of the box.

I disagree to some extent.
Players like M.Leanburger and S.Gumbleton will have much better years.
