Hit out stats can be very misleading - there are hit outs and there are hit outs and Grundy's are neither.

They are consistently straight down to his feet.

That was fine in the early part of his career before everyone understand how good he was at ground level but that hasn't applied for years.

Part of this is the club's fault with their lackadaisical attitude to ruck coaching because his standard ruck craft should have been coached out of him years ago when the opposition adjusted to his style and simply blocked the contest up at every opportunity.

Hi Jen, I just checked and articles say BG comes out of contract at the end of 2027 season .

Wow, he’s going to be 33 by then. I guess Shane Mumford retired at 35, so there are precedents. But would think that’s the exception rather than the rule

Rocca played as a CHF, didn’t have the tank to follow. When he did compete in the ruck contests, we had an ascendency.
He did alright as a back up. Let’s not get too carried away.

Grundy has 5447 Hit outs with 6 years to go on his contract. Not sure a ruck coach pure qualifications is based on their Hit out record.
Grundy is a really good ruck. Hopefully Fraser can help him get even better.

We had Rocca, he was our most superior ruckman over that period. Never really rated Fraser in the ruck, but that may have less to do with craft and more to do with him being less aggressive.

Fraser had elite HOTA% of about 20-25% for most of his career. He's actually the perfect guy to help Grundy address this weakness in his otherwise vastly superior game

Not sure which era you were watching?

Except when kicking across goal. Howe’s cost us plenty of times, don’t worry about that.
IT's not the player, it's the kicking across goal which comes down to the players up field being lazy or stagnant.
It was mitigated last season when they change the Play on from a kick out rule.

In fact most of the s**t that happens in AFL is due to idiotic rules, poorly thought out by the *knuckles who run the joint constantly match fixing.

Pendles may have to stay as skipper until the end of 2023 because we have not recruited potential leaders, unlike other clubs. Dees have Lever in the wings. On draft night they talked up some of the blokes snared as future captains. We have not chosen wisely when it comes to skipper potential. Not a huge fans of Adams because of his turnovers and nobody else really appeals, Howe is gettin on a bit and his kicking is also iffy. He is also a bossy looking type.

Adams would be A fine choice.
Ws also don’t know who can emerge from underneath now that there’s a new regime
Names such Maynard could elevate into leadership potential.

We're not in as much dire straits for leaders as Richmond are.

Adams probably has 5ish seasons left in him. Grundy and Moore are both in the leadership group and are mid-career. Maynard has been a part of the emerging leaders group within the club so may well be officially elevated.

Nick Daicos probably has leadership potential one day. Bianco was a premiership captain for Oakleigh so if he can cement a spot in the 22 he could be elevated in a couple of years.

But the question remains are any of them up to it. We know Nick Daicos will be a gun who will dominate and be one of our best ever players, not so sure about Bianco making it. Grundy and Moore are personalities a lot will not like. Richmond has 6 lined up as candidates atm.

Your hate for Moore has been noted numerous times, but this is a doozy.

As per usual, you've got these anxieties coming out of nowhere. You've made a judgment call on whether any of our players are leadership potential without much evidence, and I've just given you six names of players that are already leaders or have the potential to emerge as leaders.

Richmond's candidates for captaincy are Dusty (lol), Vlastuin and Graham (who's only just had his first full season).

if you think Howes kicking is sublime I suggest you should watch closer, he is a lazy kick far too often
Now I agree with that, he has always been a bit iffy but a few seasons back he had some consistency so some thought his kicking was better than it actually is. At his best he can be penetrating and accurate but he is also guilty of turning it over and as said being a bit lazy or lackadaisical at times.

Pretty sure Grundy runs at about 30%…

Tim Paine has good leadership credentials and is available as a Cat B rookie.
