What a load of bullshit. Interstate players do enough traveling.

The game won't be taken seriously as no one wants to be injured before round 1.

Andrew D is an absolute joke. I hope he chokes on his own -------.

We play Collingwood the next week right? Well Pav's team should be made up of about 18 or so Colllingwood "stars". Great idea Vlad, and how about it being played at Patersons? Now you're talking!

Pav picks Simpson and Duffy to represent us, then 3 of best players from each of our first opponents for the 2014 season. :D

what a flop - do they really expect players with no alignment to each other ( i.e like state of origin ) to actually give a toss ?

If I were selected and knew I had premiership points up for grabs next week I'd become the epitomy of an outside runner just Cale-Mortoning down each wing, up and back, rinse and repeat

Yes. It's the idea that has come from the players association apparently.

Our sport is becoming laughable, what's next, mid season trades? If someone gives the ball to a freo player, I hope he just kicks it on the full and walks to the bench with a smile. Why is this sport called AFL, it's clearly VFL, they didn't even think about the interstate teams. A week in Melbourne beforehand to train? WTF is that going to do? It's a distraction and something that takes away the momentum and excitement of round one. Forcing players to do this shows how pathetic this and the AFL board truly are.

Vlad - Mr Pavlich, you get first pick
Pav - Alright, I choose Travis Cloke

First quarter

Dennis Cometti - Centimeter perfect now, Wells sidesteps Swan, that's ambitious, nevertheless he kicks it long looking for Cloke. Cloke out muscles Fletcher looking for the easy chest mark BANG! Pavlich has come from behind and knee'd Cloke and Cloke is down, he isn't moving. Out comes the stretcher, Cloke hasn't moved, this looks serious.
*Camera goes onto Eddie McGuire and his face is beyond red, it's about to explode*
The next morning on the Rush Hour - Eddie McGuire goes bananas at the AFL demanding an apology and claiming no Collingwood player should of been forced to play that game, also states that there weren't enough Fremantle players playing either.

Utter garbage. The afl's desire to have something footy on every week of the year has gone too far.

The players should hang their heads in shame if this is the best idea they can come up. Our game isn't suited to all star theatrics like nba, it's a tough game, physical and blokes get hurt often.

I can imagine how filthy RTB would be at the idea and timing of this.

Funny thing is this will probably happen.

deadset terrible idea.
it's a shame that this will effectively kill off any hopes of a genuine SOO revival ever happening.

So if Suban (who is suspended for the first round I believe) is selected for the representative team, does this mean he would be allowed to play, or that the suspension would count and he will be allowed to play in round 1?
Also, if Pav is one of the selectors, can he make sure the Freo selected player is a fringe player, but the Collingwood players are Pendlebury and Cloke and Swan; then hurt them?
If one of Eddies boys missed the next game through injury or suspension, this stupid idea would never be repeated. (Don't want Pies players to get hurt badly, just enough for Eddie to lose his 'nana.)

Of all the ridiculous ideas that have come out of the AFL under Vlad's control, this would have to take the cake. I'm dumbfounded that the AFLPA seems to have endorsed this concept.

Ahem. Dare I say it? I like the idea. I admit, maybe it's because I've grown up with All-Star games in various sports, in the States, but with the exception of the NFL's Pro Bowl, representative games are looked at here with great honor. I'm proud Pav was asked to captain a side and it's pretty cool that captains of The Grand Finalists would get to choose sides. The interesting thing to me is that the plan has the backing of the AFLPA. So the players had to sign off on it. Of course we all hope no one gets hurt, but it's fun seeing the best of the best compete. Don't get me wrong -- I don't want to see Australia's game North Americanized, but let's at least give the idea a chance. After all, it's experimental.

GilG, don't American sports hold their rep games at the end of the season, not the weekend before the first game?

In baseball and basketball, it's the midpoint of the season, thus making it competitive. Winner of American League-National League MLB All-Star Game gets home field advantage in World Series.

The problem is the players are playing for anything.

Is there a financial gain for them? Are they representing a state?

This exhibition style match will be close to a debacle like the international series.

I would be more interested in a U21's games to showcase the best young talent in the comp and give players like the Mollers and Simpson of the league to show off their stuff and not muck up many side best 22 players.

I wouldn't be against a State of Origin game the week after the grand final if it didn't chew into the players leave time.

An U23's state of origin would be good, and it would work well if you had SA vs WA, Vic Country vs Vic City with the either the winner or the best of both teams playing in a grand final.
