If someone in a match day thread asks me specifically what the score is, and I know what it is, I will probably tell them. Expecting rolling updates is probably asking too much. There wasn't score updates in the last match because only about three people knew what the score was.

Considering the game was not televised nor streamed..and we could only rely on updates from people actually at the game, I thought they were great keeping us informed..screwed if I'd have been on my phone posting on here if I was there to watch my team! Well I mean I probably would because yes people did ask for updates from anyone there..and we got those..not every second and every score..but certainly enough to get the feel of the game and feel in touch with it..and afterwards several people gave us a great detailed rundown of how the players went and who did what and how.

Go check every single match day thread (you know, like 1 every week for the past 10+ years). All through them you can see posters (very very rarely it's me) asking politely to post the score without much success.

Why would I ask nicely? It doesn't work.

I mean really, how do you expect me to think I'm not dealing with a bunch of narrow minded peanuts? Are people really that fragile they have to be spiteful to everyone to get at me?

My experience with game day threads, including this one, is if someone asks the score it isn't long before someone posts it. And if a game day thread is the one place you're following a game it's pretty easy to have an idea of the state of the game

Almost never. I'm too busy watching the game. The occasional time I post will be half time.

How often do you update the score every time you do?

If I was a regular and post all game I'd update the score every time I post (assuming it has changed). It's pretty obvious to see that nearly every week people are following the game on the thread.

Not true. I've followed probably 3 matches on GDT. People are constantly asking for scores and they come minutes later when they score may have already changed again.

Consider the Mods of our board. Typically do a pretty good job but are to a degree responsible to make it a good board. bringing score updates as a standard is a no brainer. It's an extra feature available to posters do they get stuck in tent in the middle of the bush with no phone charger.

All I see going on here is a bunch of people (yourself included) taking a stance in spite of me. I don't for a second believe anyone actually thinks score updates as standard practice is a bad idea. Some people have even indicated (yourself included) that the problem isn't the idea, the problem is poster. It even got as nitty gritty as "I'm not going to do it in spite of you" (even though I made it pretty clear i'll need this functionality once every 3 or 4 years).

So you can call me a pork chop all you like but guess what: I'm not the one whose a spiteful nancy boy who gets so easily influenced into having biased opinions. You're like those managers in corporate land who rate the guys who kiss your arse and don't rate the guys you don't like personally. I thought you were better than that.

Except for the score. This is my preferred option of following the game if I can't watch it or listen to it. Why? Because all the rest of it is good information. I can finding out who is stepping up, who is spudding it, what the umpires are doing etc.

But if you think this is about just this game then you are mistaken. Every single game there are people whose preferred way of following the game is BF. Every single week you constantly see people asking for score updates and often being ignored.

And let me say this for probably the 5th time: this isn't really about me. I've maybe used this method 3 times in 10 years. There's a lot of people digging their heals in claiming there is now no way they will post scores. Pretty childish considering it's not me they are punishing.

I'm not sure why you are being unrealistic. Read the thread. These guys at the game posting are posting a fair bit of content. Certainly enough that adding "56-42" isn't going to put them out any further.

Rude? This is not the first time some claimed I should have presented it better. Notwithstanding the original post which wasn't rude (I thought the words "Yo bitches" was a clue it was light-hearted), being polite hasn't worked for 10 years. Why would I try a tactic that doesn't work? ps: surely it's not lost on you that everyone is talking about it and this issue is now front and centre.

Selfish: The only people being selfish are the ones not updated the score, and even worse are the ones doing the "i don't like you so now I'm defo not doing it, so nyer".


Just post the score. Everyone wins.

I can't remember ever seeing someone ask for the score in a GDT (excluding non-televised practice matches), that isn't what the thread is for. It's never even been an issue.

I've just re-read this thread for the duration of the game time to refresh my memory of what was posted

Firstly, this match was different to others in that it wasn't televised or broadcast so this thread was quite probably the best way of following the game. I know it's what I used as well as you Bunsen and probably many others did also. In short we were reliant on the good grace of those that were there to keep us updated.

My refresher confirmed my view that whilst not every post had a score it was pretty easy to have a base understanding of the score, certainly how many goals had been kicked. Biggie in particular and to a slightly lesser extent Big Tones regularly provided score updates and whenever someone posted asking for a score they were answered within a couple of minutes

These guys were at the game and took time out to keep the rest of us who were interested but couldnt get there updated on proceedings. They didnt have to but still did. What do you do? Rather than thank them for their efforts you bitch because you weren't spoon fed the score despite not once asking for an update during the game - others did and were promptly answered

When I can't get to a TV or radio stream, my choice is BF because the guys posting the updates are good. I just want score updates for the people who are stuck at work and have GDT open.

Score updates are a good thing and in this thread they were pretty consistent so as I've said I don't really know why you're complaining about it here. You're the only person that's raised it as an issue.

I agree that outside of tv or radio the game day threads are by far the best way to follow a game (if you can bypass some of the ott criticisms and wad blowing for that matter) as it gives a better insight into the game than an app or the afl website which is useless

So everyone, for the benefit of those unable to follow the game elsewhere when posting in game day threads please update the score. Pretty please, with a cherry on top
