From Worsfolds presser.

Leuey has had an injury flare up (this is from BB sorry not presser).
Heppell has got a lower body injury. This has been ongoing since 2nd half off the last year and was carried through the Irish game. Hoping to get back with no issues in Jan.
Hurls and Jobe still not in full contact but that is imminent.
Has no idea about upcoming verdict.
Club Is happy that Heppell played in Irish game, not too concerned with how this game affected any preparation.
Not sure on noticeable change on the way we play, unsure if players will pick up game plan and make it work. Says that first part of the could be learning but he doesn't expect it to be too long.
His philosophy on NAB challenge is for match conditioning. He wants them prepared for the year.

Why did we allow Heppell to play against Ireland if he was carrying an injury?

I know the club said they're fine with it, but really?

Heppell wanted to, his call in the end.

He also carried it for the 2nd half of the season. Its been noted as "an awareness". The fact they aren't saying what it is and that its not a injury per se that has stopped him from playing but more an ongoing restriction makes me worry about OP

It's probably really good publicity for the club to have a player or two in those games, that might have been a factor too.

Scooter on twitter advising Leuey injury is an Achilles. Expected to resume full training in 2 weeks.

Not a good injury to cop though, has had history of those hasn't he?

Missed a whole season because of it a few years back IIRC

Yeah it rang a bell. It was either that or an ankle.
Not good but was always the risk with him

He's had one before.

Achilles is a common ruckman injury, it's the nature of the movement they do to tap the ball down.

he probably could get a game for us in 2016 with how things are going ...

Wasn't concentrating enough for a proper report, but a few tidbits:

  • Cooney was running laps, Redman and Leuey on a modified program, looked like mainly upper-body work with the battle ropes and medicine ball, Long warmed up but mainly took shots on the Etihad oval;
  • Drills:
    • A close-in ~5v5 handball drill, each team trying to pass it through a narrow goal while being harassed and tackled for the turnover. Was pretty chaotic, not really too much that could be seen distinctly, but Tippa looked composed as ever, as did Parish. Zach cracked in hard and got dumped a few times.
    • One player delivering inside 50 from behind the mark, to the advantage of a player grappling and pushing off from a 1v1. Kicking was a mixed bag, most were decent, BJ had some beauties, Eades the one that stood out for the wrong reasons - a few slew off the boot. The 1v1 side of things wasn't taken too seriously, just a bit of scrapping and resistance before breaking out onto a short lead.
    • Extended stoppage work inside 50. From memory, defenders were Brown, Hartley, Gwilt, Bags, Ambrose, Ashby, Francis and more that escape me; forwards Daniher, Dempsey, Edwards, Kommer, Eades, Tippa; mids Zaka, Merretts Z and J, Parish, Bird, Hams, Langford, Laverde, Bird, Wallis, Gleeson. Can't recall exactly where BJ, McKenna and Fanta fitted in, but I think it might've been forward, forward and back respectively. Pretty scrappy and not too much structure to be seen, given that the drill started from ~30m out.
      • Gach and Smack were fairly even - Smack outmuscled Gach fairly easily when the opportunity presented itself, but Gach's leap is enormous. Watching him today made me think that he's a chance to play a few games - he's still slight of body, but the spring he gets is pretty extraordinary, and could maybe help him to preserve his body and not get too beaten up. Would still get slaughtered when not in the centre circle though.
      • One lovely baulk and kick to advantage from outside 50 to the top of the square from McKenna was lovely to see.
      • Francis was strong in the contest, and his long kicking is gorgeous.
      • Morgan was very keen and disposed of the ball well.
      • Hams looked sharp, as well as Parish and Z. Merrett as mentioned earlier.
    • (More contested work that I missed while inside)
    • Goal-kicking to finish. Tough conditions, 90% of the shots coming from the RFP with a moderate breeze right-to-left, so accuracy wasn't great. Langford was probably the pick of the bunch, while Eades was absolutely taking the piss with some Motlop-esque dribbles and snaps. He was a little casual for my liking, even for taking shots at the end of a session, not the end of the world though. Despite his kicking boots not being on, his movement was electric in the earlier drills.
  • Sheeds swung past and chatted to a few news crews - couldn't hear what he was saying, but I guess we'll find out tonight.
I'll upload a short video of the stoppage work today when I get a chance.
