Maybe not, but look at Freo and WC. Been able to keep nearly everyone from another state, Ebert, Stevens and Judd being the only notable exceptions.
Unless you are a soft mummies boy or the club is a shambles (ala Lions / Melbourne a few years ago) I don't think the go home factor is very big at all no matter what state you play in. Boy's will be boy's and once you have spent some time bonding you get close to the playing group you were drafted into.

Also being offered $1m a season at 19 will have some success.

As Varcoe explained its a big call moving a young family interstate when you have options in Melbourne and no family ties / support in WA.

Moving from Melbourne to Queensland or NSW is much more attractive and you are only 1 hour away max by air and it's cheap. Players also know about that long haul flying after games doesn't help your recovery and shortens your career.

If WA was a non AFL state and needed developing the AFL would have given Freo and the Eagles the same leg up its provided to the Sydney sides.

Looks like Karpany has some good wraps on him

WEST COASTMalcolm KarpanyRecruited from Woodville-West Torrens, 176cm, 74kg, yet to debutThe small midfielder/forward was recruited with pick 31 in the 2013 NAB AFL draft and although he only played six WAFL league matches and nine WAFL reserves matches last year there is talk he could be one to watch in 2015. He suffered some injury issues before he was drafted and required a shoulder operation last year. But he possesses electric pace and agility in traffic and is very skillful. He would be the perfect fit in the Eagles' forward line to compliment the tall targets. Alex Malcolm

Newman, Cripps and Karpany are all fighting for that small forward / part time mid spot.

Some quality competition here.:thumbsu:

In time Karpany will have better credentials playing midfield is my prediction.

All possess that outside pace and skill by foot we are craving to see in the team.

Nuh ... .? supermodel hot missus .. You cant waste your life lookin at her or carting her around as a trophy .. besides women admire men that other men respect and look up to ....
That's got nothing to do with whether you'd rather hang with your workmates after spending all day with them or go home and have some fun with your super hot missus Boondy. Who said anything about carting her round as a trophy? How do you know the guys don't respect and admire them already? Strange post. If you wanna stay around with sweaty blokes all day and night that's your choice mate, but I'd rather not. :)

Can't see why a forward line like this wouldn't work

Newman Darling Lecras
Cripps JK Lycett

With Karps on the bench rotating fwd / mid with Lecras and Newman .

We have been too tall for too long in our forward line

Try fitting in all our midfield rotations with that forward line.
