For the benefit of passive aggressivess like #ArdentEagle, I quoted you so you'd know exactly who the dismissive tone was aimed at.

If you are arguing, which you are, that we have only recently become a bunch of flat trackers and we were somehow genuine contenders in 2011 & 2012 then I don't care what you think. Because thats a stupid notion.

If I've somehow misunderstood you and you agree it was a false dawn full of misdirection caused by the last flicker of some dying talents then fair enough. But there's not much evidence that you hold such a view....
My argument is just because you arent a genuine contender that makes you a flat track bully. Pretty simple really.

I'm hugely hopeful we are moving in the right direction. But when I see guys saying stuff like we are close I become concerned.

We might be close on the back of a couple of the newer players suddenly exploding into A grade players. But otherwise we seem perfectly placed to be anywhere from 12th to 6th depending on injury and a bit of luck...

Basically where we've been much of the last several years ...
Which of the newer players gives you the most hope of turning into bonafide A graders?

No idea, but the simple fact we are loading up on running players gives us hope. We still need some luck that we've got the right ones.

My option is based on us trying and actually turning over a fair chunk of the list and almost solely recruiting blokes who have a chance to be mids - for me that acknowledged and tries to address the problem.

But if all they turn into is solid depth then we will remain what we've been for years. Average.

Hutch, Selwood and Darling walking laps.

Squads been doing full field kicking drills running down the wing to a leading target at half fwd who then becomes a half back and switches to a target on the opposite side of the ground in defence. He turns and hits up a player running past who receives the ball and runs up the opposite wing, hitting a target and the exercise repeats.

Some changes from last year and where we can improve

Waters - He was AA in his last full year so you would expect this to improve us. Against this, the backline hasn't really been an issue besides small forwards. He could belt them into submission and make them scared of getting the ball. He will however offer some strength and leadership back there that has been lost from Glass.

Yeo - Further move into the middle. Good signs last year from a limited sample pool and would expect this continue into next season. He offers us something different and while doesn't look like he will become a regular accumulator 25-30+ possies his 20-25 can be dangerous.

Rucks - Looks to be a strong pre season from Lycett/Naitanui so far. With the conjecture around Cox departing removed our ruck future has been locked away and this can only be a good thing. Naitanui has done the majority of the pre season and is FAR ahead of where he was last year. With these two in beast mode they will make our pedestrian midfield look better

2nd year with the new coach - More time with the new coaches and a better understanding of the game plan. This can only be a good thing, unless of course the plan stinks.

Home Form - Losses at Subi to Port, North, Sydney, Richmond and Freo twice. I've been pretty happy with our away form, it's some of the crap we put up at home that is disappointing and an area for big improvement.

I don't see any other major changes or players doing substantially more than we already know they are capable of to make a huge difference. I also think its too early to expect the 1st/2nd year players on our list to have a big impact.

What are the negatives? Nothing really we lost Glass/Cox and some dead wood. Experience is out, though if Waters is back we can cover it.

Given a good run with injuries i would expect us to be around the 6-8 range, slaying the tripe and pinching a couple of games from teams above us. Definite positives for the season ahead but while we won't go backwards i can't see a major jump ahead for 2015

Separated into two groups on opposite sides of the oval running the same drill simultaneously.

Drill is kicking long to a contest, with two sets of approx four players working together (one set in flouro jackets) to crumb the ball from the contest, then it turns into them having to work it out of defence and hit a lead coming out of half forward.

Notes so far:

Arrived at 930, players still walking into field at that stage.

Nice day, pretty hot and sunny.

Darling and scooter doing handball work together, also with Hutch. Then walking laps. What is wrong with Hutch?

Most warming up or kick to kick in the middle. Bit hard to see how they look or who is there/missing.

Just spotted maginness. Came later and just chatting.

Couldn't spot Masten, I'm not obsessed you know...

Main group doing some warm up runs.

Sheed and Colledge doing separate warm ups on the side. Run through type stuff. Both then joined main training.

Main group finished warm up - into drills.
1 group doing kicking skills, one pick ups, other pick ups and a game. Rotating through.

Beau looking good.
Barrass is main training. So is Sharrod.
Lucas is skinny, but not as skinny as the photos show. Haven't seen any other recruits.
Lycett still looking like a beast.

950 now.

Pretty good talk, more than before Xmas.

Like the look of karpany's skills, very neat. Looks less bulky.

Injured three still walking laps.

Ah Chee (I think it's him) looks good, only non eagle out there.

Group handball drill, get passed the tackler shield holders.
Good evasion by Cripps.
Sheed loves to hold the ball up high in both hands.
End of drill - nice torpedo goal from LeCras from beyond 50.

Full ground kicking drill now. Great talk.
Good kicking from Lycett.
Rosa looks a bit skinny. Great kicking from him.
Shuey looks awesome. So powerful.
Cripps is training well.

Drill ends.

1010 now.

No sign of adamson, brophy or any 2014 national draftees. No Sinclair, Ellis, Bennell, Yeo, waterman. Assuming first year players have something else on.

Very rough count - about 28/29 found full drills.

Lucas copping a spray after a stuff up.
Masto getting some praise.
I still don't rate Main at all.
Sheed hitting his targets by foot.
AIS kid looks good.

End of drill.

New drills into two groups. Both are kicking, running, keepers off.

One of them is looking at running out of defense. Focus on width and handball receives.

End of drill. 1035 now.

New drills. One with two teams is keepies off, actually there are some mini goals. Lucas with good pace and skills in this drill. Good pressure from Shuey. Good tackle from naitanui. Kennedy looking good as always. Schoey on a classic evasive run.

Kennedy looks good, Naitanui has done some nice things along with Sheed and LeCras.

I can't make everyone out as I'm having to sit a fair way back, but Lucas name has been called a bit and Gaff did some good work in the forward drill earlier. I can't post photos coz it takes too long so I will try add them later. :)
