There were 29 doing the main training.

I think 7 are in melbourne for initiation (the draftees and cat b rookies).

That leaves 10 injured or not training. Those are

Darling
Scooter
Hutch
Yeo
McGovern
Ellis
Bennell
Newman
Sinclair
Maginness

I'm not sure what is wrong with Hutch. Or if anything is wrong with Bennell.

Induction???? So we are disadvantaged again. More flights / travel and less training. Unacceptable, we need TALA.
Travel and Living Allowance. 4 points per season. I'm only kind of joking.

Seriously though, the AFL can't do a roadshow?

Notes so far:

Arrived at 930, players still walking into field at that stage.

Nice day, pretty hot and sunny.

Darling and scooter doing handball work together, also with Hutch. Then walking laps. What is wrong with Hutch?

Most warming up or kick to kick in the middle. Bit hard to see how they look or who is there/missing.

Just spotted maginness. Came later and just chatting.

Couldn't spot Masten, I'm not obsessed you know...

No sign of adamson, brophy or any 2014 national draftees. No Sinclair, Ellis, Bennell, Yeo, waterman. Assuming first year players have something else on.

Very rough count - about 28/29 found full drills.

Lucas copping a spray after a stuff up.
Masto getting some praise.
I still don't rate Main at all.
Sheed hitting his targets by foot.
AIS kid looks good.

End of drill.

New drills into two groups. Both are kicking, running, keepers off.

One of them is looking at running out of defense. Focus on width and handball receives.

End of drill. 1035 now.

New drills. One with two teams is keepies off, actually there are some mini goals. Lucas with good pace and skills in this drill. Good pressure from Shuey. Good tackle from naitanui. Kennedy looking good as always. Schoey on a classic evasive run.
I think you are right. There was no sign of Waterman, Cavka, Duggan, Lamb, Nelson, Brophy or Adamson so it looked like some sort of first year player session planned. Lucas was there but assume that as he was in the system it probably didn't apply to him. Others missing were Yeo, Ellis, McGovern, Sinclair, Newman, Maginnis and Bennell. Given that Hutchings, Darling and Selwood could only walk laps this doesn't look to good as far as depth fitness is concerned.

The kicking was pretty good and I saw very few stuff ups. At the same time last year there were quite a few kicks that went nowhere near their target so that is a plus. I also like the set moves practiced as I think it gives the ball carrier options at the right time rather than too early or placing them under pressure with no none to kick to. Perhaps it will even help Nic Naitanui to get some easy ball for a change as he seemed to relish having set options to lead or drift into.

Nice to see MacKenzie involved in full contact sessions and it was interesting to see defenders trying to use pads to bump players coming through with the ball. Some connected but blokes like Naitanui just couldn't get pinged. Waters is in full contact mode and his kicking is the best I've seen him do.

A few photos. Very low quality on the phone, but will chuck them up anyway.

Darling and Hill - Darling walked a few laps, Hill trained pretty well.

I always thought we had this aspect of the game well and truly down pat - be nice to see some incisive passes into the forward line hitting a lead up target on the tit. This is what we don't seem to do so well.
Chad Fletcher used to do this so well.

Hopefully Duggan and Sheed can be that type of player for us along with Shuey & Gaff.
