Geelong, he was, is and always will be a Cat.

Suspected as much, may well be cutting his teeth at another club before returning to the Cats….cheers Morro

My remarks above are from the practice match today. The club has footage from last week's scratch.

McIntosh looks to be running freely and urgently, though I really can't remember seeing him in stride before so can't make a comparison.

Astbury was running around fine, though I think his perceived slowness is as much to do with decision-making as speed by foot. His ball drop and preparation to kick is as if he is doing a kickout, so when it's a hot ball he can jam up.

He's certainly looking trim, and was training in the break with Rance.

Cheers UpTheGuts .You get my vote for P.M :D ………..I've heard that Kamdyn Mc has had a bit of a growth spurt. When I heard that I had a similar thought to you in that I'd love to see him on the wing, especially if he still had reasonable speed & tank. I heard he is now around 193/194cm, which is just a bit short of the Cho. Could be very hard to match up on if he develops a strong grab as well. Any comment on his marking ? From memory he wasn't too bad in his highlights pre-draft… once again, great report !!:thumbsu:

I don't remember him taking a mark of substance today. His ball drop still looks a bit weird and he does seem to have a bit of sideways roll about his running. He's put on a lot of mass. He would have been an ideal matchup for Jack. That they went with Lennon says to me that they have another role in mind.

I think we have some exciting talent coming through, but so do most clubs. The lift needs to come mainly from already familiar names

I really am liking the 2012 draftee's and the way they are coming along

Vlastuin - Well we all seeen what he has to offer and certainly will have more improvement left but looking very good
McBean - I always knew he would be a player and looks like he will be, You cant have enough 204cm Mobile fowards that are genuine footballers
McDonough - Smart elusive silk skilled small foward with hopefully inside mid abilities Chapman'esk - Tracking well with another year could be a starter
McIntosh - Well what can i say - I see him as a misfielder thats 'BIG' and another 'Smart' Footballer could be that swingman that the troll coops is looking for lol

My mate who is housing Cadeyn reckons Kamdyn is being trained to be a tagger.

Nah, just the product of an idle mind. We all want the same thing.
It's not really possible to benchmark our playing progress until we play someone else.

15 minutes after the game finished a bunch of them were out there again pulling heavy things tied to big ropes while sitting on the grass. Hard work.

UTG I like the fact they get hostile. We have been passive for far too long.

"Hos-tile, dog-style doesn't matter we F**k em all !! " Sorry theflea it's a punchline to a funny joke, couldn't resist

On a slightly more serious note. I wouldn't put it beyond Cotch to encourage players to scrag him to simulate game day as over the last couple of years (prior to Captaincy it seemed to be increasing, from opposition). Just a thought. I saw it happen to Tigga late last year from the new assistant coach no less (Hawks ruck man) at a practice. For those interested Tigga handled the much bigger body pretty well :thumbsu:

I like that they are going hammer and tong together. I know they are determined to make playing finals a year to year achievement and no longer miss out. They are sick of the shit said about us as much as we are. IMO I would not be surprised if we make finals every year for a good block of time.

Overall, it was a scratchy but intensive scratch match. Our ball use simply must improve, significantly, and it's hardly amazing how it becomes harder to dispose well when your opponent actually tries to beat you, as opposed to facing off against a witches hat. I'm sure this game looked different from another angle, and mixing a number of VFL players will always drag down the standard, but it was a tough encounter and if Dimma and the others wanted a robust contest, they got it.

Thanks UTG!!!

Whens the next training as i might i try and pop in myself now I'm back in Melbourne?

Think this last part is important as its probably our biggest weakness, when the intensity has gone up like a collingwood, Geelong, Essendon (dreamtime), North and Sydney our skills have deteriorated. Freo is the only example i can think of that we haven't dropped our bundle and Hawthorn play a similar type possession game as us so the pressure isn't as ramped up.

Interesting that Helbig and Miles were playing centre square for the probables. I wonder if we're angling to play our stars (Cotch, Lids, Dusty etc) in more outside roles this year, utilising their class and extending their career spans.

FB: Morris Chaplin Grimes
HB: Dusty Rance Vlastuin
C: Cotchin Conca Ellis
HF: Lids Jack Knights
FF: Griffiths Vickery McDonough
Fol: Hampson Foley Jackson
Int: Houli, Newman, Miles, Helbig

Heaps of class outside with grunt to boot and a quality spine. I may be biased but that's a top 4 side IMO.

I like that idea, that team oozes class but also grunt too. My brain is fried right now, who are the notable omissions in that side? ...

That's interesting. I spose having a 194cm endurance king chasing you around all day would be off putting.

Mate, look at the size of Watson and Pendlebury. Build the engine and put him on the aggot.

Where's Maric? I'd suggest Maric ahead of Griffiths. Pettard in for Foley. Grigg in for Helbig. Gordon in for Miles.

That kind of defeats the purpose of the side. Foley, Helbig and Miles can play inside, dishing it out to Cotch, Dusty, Ellis, Lids, Vlastuin, Conca. Petterd, Grigg, Gordon are all flankers with no inside game. They force our better players to do more grunt work, where they get battered.

True about Maric though. I'd like to see Griff in that spot eventually.
