Training Preseason Training Thread - 2024/25

And that’s me done for preseason

Probably the best conditioning I’ve seen the squad in since I’ve been attending training.

There’s a bit to look forward to this season albeit we’ll lose more than we win and there’ll be the occasional shellacking when things come completely unstuck

Stay positive, take the good with the bad as the players learn the new game plan and Mini identifies what he has to work with. Some will thrive, others will fall away but one thing I’m sure of is that the effort and desire to compete and improve will be there

Onwards and upwards, enjoy the season

You can't compare Baker to players who never considered joining WC.

Personally I enjoy comparing him to Robert Harvey.

Let's just say there are a lot of areas where Baker comes up short.

Shit acquisition IMO.

I would have taken perryman .

Is Baker better than perryman ? Perryman is a midfielder that was shifted to the HBF because GWS has a glut of mids and perryman is an elite kick .

Free agent so we would have kept our picks .

Also not a midget .

Perryman is playing midfield at Collingwood because they needed to bolster their midfield.

We need elite mids and traded for a back pocket , forward pocket and a treacle slow HFF we are using as a mid .
You would have taken Perryman but Perryman picked Collingwood.
If you were offered the same amount of money who would you pick at the moment.
It isn't us.Time to move on.

Its not about who is coming to west coast it was in response to perryman is on the same amount as Baker.

People hanging their hopes on Hutchs 1 good game v Cats last year as being his usual output should remember Luke Edwards game v Richmond and how he went after that

We seem to have a type

I wish Hutch all the best but hope we don't expect the world.

And when Pridda started to shine as a mature ager we should have likened him to Kane Munro.

Hutch looks really promising

So a new coach who has his own ideas on a new game plan and playing style get's a couple of seasoned players over who he thinks will fit well into the team.
Players he knows well from coaching them in the past and has a good relationship with.
Players that want to be here and have already proved on the track they are up for it and have probably lifted the standards for the rest of the players to see where they need to be.
Players that haven't yet had a chance to actually represent the club in an actual game but look from all reports fully committed.

But hey let's write them off, pot them, say it was a terrible idea to get them and waste our money and draft picks on them.

Let's just reign those horses in guys and actually see them run out and represent the club in a proper game.

Personally I am pretty stoked we got them and think it is a positive move. Owies I was a bit Eh? What? on. But that was mainly from his Carlton jumper. Now he is one of ours and I am behind him all the way and think he will also add a lot of AFL experience and grunt to our new and growing young list.
If we can get a good 4-6 years from these guy's, WHAT'S THE PROBLEM??

He's a legit premiership hero and I think I had him 4th best on ground in the grand final (behind Shuey, Adams, Schofield) but Sheed is pretty much cooked.

Great servant of the club and downgrading that pick 6 essentially netted us Yeo as well (dumbass freo) but I don't think he's making a legit high level comeback from his rooted ankle/foot.

Always have a giggle when they told him Duffied would be infront of him if they traded for him.

Why don't you compare him to Graham who was also a free agent and i would think is on a lesser contract.
I don't rate Graham. The fact most Richmond fans were happy to see him go is telling .

I'm comparing Baker to traded players roughly getting the same salary as Baker.

I think Hutch has got a lot more going for him than Luke Edwards.

I doubt Luke Edwards would have been drafted apart from his name.

Right leg injury for Liam Baker. Seems to be icing ankle as Harley Reid checks in on him. Injured during marking contest. Has now gone into rooms

I ****ing told you campaigners. I have been holding it all in until now.

We should have known this bloke would get injured and should have only signed him on a month by month contract.
We have now thrown away pick 3 for nothing and all the rest of those spuds we drafted in November will be delisted in 2 years time.

Sack Woosha!

I arrived 1/2 hour late this morning . Only my 2nd time at training so not as skilled at recognising players . They were split yellow blue and took turns at turnover against the trainers in pink from a back pocket to full play on until a score was registered . Then had like a 20 minute match sim against each other . Once again emphasis on quick ball movement . Not really heavy tackling just general jostling . Some nice plays from Hewett , Malakai , Gross . Hutch looking in fine form looks fit strong legs , strong glutes . Big bodied . Ryan at FF screaming angrily at Archer to feed it out quickly to Dewar , obviously a preferred i50 deliverer . Ryan and Waterman showing their class .
Then they split into mids fwds backs
Mids doing drills to quickly get it to outside mid and go .
Backs : I saw Gov and Brock doing laying on ground then get up and 1v1 for high ball coming in .
Barnett doing same with Van Es .
Barnett looking quite the athlete . All looked even in them battles .

Baker injured? Lathlain leg injury?

Ginbey fined $1000 + $156 court costs for disorderly conduct and not giving his name to police

The public urination charge was dropped

Given a spent conviction

Puts that one to bed
