And that’s me done for preseason

Probably the best conditioning I’ve seen the squad in since I’ve been attending training.

There’s a bit to look forward to this season albeit we’ll lose more than we win and there’ll be the occasional shellacking when things come completely unstuck

Stay positive, take the good with the bad as the players learn the new game plan and Mini identifies what he has to work with. Some will thrive, others will fall away but one thing I’m sure of is that the effort and desire to compete and improve will be there

I haven't watched the clip but I'm assuming you haven't either the way your leaping to conclusions. You gotta take some of the context of the "back"chat podcast into account. I'm sure it's a lot of tongue and cheek going on in that convo. Backchat pod is basically sucking off backman, they love to take the piss out of midfielders and forwards.

No, I watched it.

Seems the much praised decision of settling Ginbey back in defense where he played his best footy last year, or any year for that matter is a popular one.

What conclusion is there to jump to? He was lost as a mid, as many predicted, and now he's straight back into defense and that looks like where he'll cut his teeth at least mid term.

Good call IMO.

Or more that if you draft a HB with some midfield experience/potential it might be better to play him at HB initially and transition him into the midfield over time. Rather than say throw him in the middle from the start

The problem was that Simmo drafted him as a midfielder and Simmo had a very one dimensional view of what players roles should be. If you are someone he wants in the team, which Ginbey was, then you play in the spot he thinks is your best spot. Bailey Wiliams the CHF etc. If you are someone he thinks is 2nd tier, then he'll play you in a sacrificial role that hinders your development because he doesn't rate you anyway and you being on the list is only a temporary thing in his eyes.

Under Simpson, there was no HB spot for Ginbey to play at. Simmo was a Tom Cole man. It became clear over the course of 2024 that he wasn't coming on as a midfielder but once Hewett was out for the year I think that just put pressure on that it was make or break for Ginbey in the middle. When Schoey took the reins he moved Tom Cole further up the ground and put Ginbey in his natural position to build some confidence back in the kid and it worked a treat. He's obviously convinced McWalter to leave him there, and we have Hewett back so it's all worked out for the best.

I saw Hewitt out in freo and he was suffering really badly from the hiccups but Longy turned him upside down and gave him a drink and then Ginbey scared him.

Needless to say it fixed the issue immediately.

This is McQualter's theme of looking out for each other and working together already paying dividends with the youngsters.

To be fair I know it's a lame question, but at this stage they're probably looking to build a rapport with McQualter with some light banter before hitting him with the questions about Harley's contract.
