And that’s me done for preseason

Probably the best conditioning I’ve seen the squad in since I’ve been attending training.

There’s a bit to look forward to this season albeit we’ll lose more than we win and there’ll be the occasional shellacking when things come completely unstuck

Stay positive, take the good with the bad as the players learn the new game plan and Mini identifies what he has to work with. Some will thrive, others will fall away but one thing I’m sure of is that the effort and desire to compete and improve will be there

Onwards and upwards, enjoy the season

Could've been walking off and some bloke starts threatening him and his group and raising his fists. Is he supposed to turn his back and get punched in the back of his head? Let his Mrs get punched by some fool?

Sure, not a great look - I'll be honest on face value it's very disappointing, but we don't really know the full story.
As someone who has lived in regional WA for large chunks of my life I really doubt it was self defence from an incident that flared up that night.

Very likely it’s feuding between families and it’s a square up for something Liam has done or that the other bloke has done to a member of Liam`s family. Very likely it’s family related somehow.

Can’t guarantee that but if i was betting that’s what i would put my money on.

Of course - more trying to say we don't really know and probably never will. 🙂

Also CountryLad, I find it hard to believe you're from regional WA.

It's a possibility, probably not that immediate though, some things simmer along for years over things that happened years ago to different generations.
Just as likely to be the result of shit talking on the night.

Jake Paul has withdrawn his call out to Ryan after seeing that footage.

Liam's about 25 years too young for Tyson as an opponent anyway

Made my way down to training. Liam was on the track but had made his way inside.

Haven’t spotted, Sheed, Hunt, Hough, Bazzo.

Duggan doing his own program, HJ also. Both seem to be moving well.

All others are out there training. Umpires are here too, so looks as though some match sim about to take place, as they are split into yellow and blues.

Will post later on some more in depth info.

Business as usual for the time being

Dan Rioli and Bolton were involved in a scuffle either last year or the year before and from memory weren’t penalised

As far as street fights go, this one seems quite civilised- 1v1, no king hits from behind, no wrestling to the ground etc. Just two blokes facing each other throwing some fairly innocuous blows that mostly miss

We’re saving that for Warner after we pay three 1st round picks for him

If he buys that house in Attadale (or whatever) he can swim straight up to his doorstep.

Or some young fella wanted a shot at fighting an AFL player.

If the other party starts something it's self defense. Doesn't matter about previous family history.

If Liam started the fight and threw the first punch.....not self defense.

We obviously need the finer details of what transpired and I’ll reserve final judgement until we have them but on face value I think it’s best for the club if the new administration makes an example of this. On the eve of the season short of self defence that’s poor from a senior player, it even looks planned.

Club has backed him to the hilt getting his hammies right, extending his contract and supporting him through previous misdemeanours with light punishments. We’ve got a large group of impressionable young indigenous kids that would idolise Liam. It would do Dewar, Champion and Brockman absolutely no favours by not sending a strong message that is unacceptable.

Well in that video the first punch was by the tosser.

But I agree that some people just want to have a shot at an afl player. Not sure he is too proud copping one into the head and stumbling around.

Oh Liam.

It’s not about self defence it’s a mutual fight. This stuff would go on regularly between these families. This time Liam has got caught up in it

Anyway I’m not going to comment any more on it it’s a tough one to explain to people that haven’t grown up watching this stuff.

From memory the incident with Bolton/Rioli they were out and someone was having a go at one of their partners.

Richmond (Hardwick in particular) backed them in to the hilt but the AFL took a pretty dim view and gave them a huge fine.

Thanks for the clarification

Decided to research it a bit more

First off, it was far longer ago than I thought - May 2021 so coming up 4 years ago

As you say Richmond didn’t penalise either player but the AFL fined Bolton $20,000 after their investigations determined that he stepped in and exacerbated the situation. Rioli wasn’t penalised

Bolton also fractured his wrist in the altercation so there was a bit more to it than this one with Ryan

Tall Poppy.

Plenty of young blokes would love to brag about taking down Liam Ryan in a fight.

He would cop it every time he goes out.
Or, just maybe, he's an angry dickhead. Let's not rush to his defence because he's 'one of ours'.

There's no doubt footballers would catch more lip than the average bloke but I still managed to go my entire adulthood without getting into a fight. It's very easy to walk away when you don't have an oversized ego. The one exception I might give is racial abuse, something I've never had to deal with, but that's obviously not the case here.
