How did Metricon avoid the rain dump. The rain edge sat about 15-20 kilometers to the north all day
The goundsman i am sure is very happy about that. Some divots to attend to and all should be good
Levi Casboult looks a fair way off getting a game. He was linked to us at some stage

Just re-watching a bit of the game that I missed earlier and although we were on the right side of it today I really hope the game isn’t over-officiated the way it was today. Haven’t seen much of the other trials but it feels like there’s been so many frees given so far just slowing the game down too much. Anyone else feeling that or am I just getting used to footy again?

More frees should speed up the play.

Not necessarily, can take the ball out of motion to go back behind the mark, can take a while to find the correct kick taker, just takes the ball out of the contest which I don’t like. Having said all that usually the umpires are a bit heavy on the whistle to start the season to set standards which usually change throughout the season.

Missed it today, how’s cockatoo go?

He was really quiet early on but moved further up the ground and into the midfield and got more involved. I thought he had a decent game, made some real nice kicks into the corridor, had some smart little touches and knock ons to advantage in tight and was very physical, would probably hit the hardest of anyone in the team imo.

Berry looked like a completely different player to 2021. Hopefully he can stay fit as I feel he is a really important cog to our team when firing.
He was hitting his straps towards the end of last season, kicked 3 in the final round as well, good to see his form continuing

How did Carrara miss this rain. Carrara located just outside the bottom of this map for those not familiar with location
The chart below is the rainfall since 9am today
If you want to check out the gauge nearest your suburb go to the link below. It is updated regularly
My closest is Mitchelton which at present is 148mm. Place cursor on spot to see rain gauge name/suburb
Mt Nebo has a lazy 422mm at present with just under 12 hours to go like every other suburb
Good for Wivenhoe dam but going to be some river flooding for sure come morning

Because this rain was of biblical proportions. Clearly designed to rid the earth of sinners & heathens. Nerang (and hence Carrara apparently) is God's country.

Mmmm I'm inclined to agree with TMVP on this one... last season in Ballarat a Bulldogs player dumped McCluggage into the ground with a very similar tackle, actually WON the free kick for holding the ball... and then got rubbed out for 2 weeks.

Would love to be wrong though.

Overall it was plain to see we've worked hard on rebounding from half back
Yeah further to this, it was evident today that when we were stuck on the half back flank, we didn't just give up and thump it up the line like we would in previous seasons. Instead whenever possible we tried to switch back across field and try to make ground on the opposite flank, usually to good effect.

Whether the same strategy is successful against better opposition remains to be seen. The long kick up the line, whilst hardly aesthetically pleasing, is much easier to defend against if things go wrong.

I saw a couple of holding the ball decisions that looked a bit stiffer today, and there was a 50 or two given to players where their opponent didn't get up off the ball or hand it back quickly enough. This was pretty consistent with Brad Scott's announcement a few weeks ago so if nothing else it's good to see words being backed up by actions.

Several personal weather stations in my area (not too far from Mitchelton) are showing 240mm+ since midnight.

Yes lots of rain as predicted.
Wivenhoe Dam now at 71.2% and i don't get why they are releasing water as at 10-pm tonight
Was 39.3% on 1/11/2021
It is a flood mitigation dam and this release will affect the Brisbane area in the next day or two
It reached 191% capacity in 2011 before release of water
Litigation followed but we are way under what it was built for
Be interesting to see the inflows in the next week and see where the levels get to whilst releasing water
