dude no one is defending anything that other nations did

but as the scale of national crimes go, the nazi attempt to anhilate the jews would have to be the worste in the the 20th century.

if you go back in time, you could add the mongol invasions, the portugeuse and spanish in the new world, the brits in india, the brutal repressions of ivan, all are very evil.

In the 20c the single most evil event would have to be the nazi death camps.

Other events that have occured have been evil, and I am not trying to be facetious or apologise for the crimes, but others have been less evil.

I don't think event the japanese crimes in asia amount to that many deaths...

I can think of many crimes humanity have committed over history that have been recorded, but that wins the cake for the 20th c at least.

The frightening thing is that this may not be clear cut.

The Turks killed an estimated 1.5m Armenians alone in their attempts to create a homogenous society, and many more Kurds and other minorities.

Some 2 million have been killed and 5 million displaced in Sudan.

More than 1 million Tutsi in Rwanda.

Stalin's attempts to purify the Ukraine saw 5 million killed through starvation.

Not the pure numbers perhaps, but the 'rape camps' in the Balkans were arguably more abhorent.

Just for interests sake, a few years ago a well-renowned psychic who predicted Princess Diana's death and September 11 among other things that have happened, also predicted that Shwartzanegger would be president in the late 00's.

Even more spectacularly, Arnie being president was also predicted in the movie Demolition Man starring Sandra Bullock and (shock horror) Sylvester Stallone!

The movie is set in the future. Driving through future-era LA, Stallone is trying to adjust to waking up in the future after being frozen for a fifty years or so. He has this conversation after seeing a large building out his window:

Stallone: "Hold it! The Schwarzenegger Library?"
Bullock: "Yes, the Schwarzenegger Presidential Library. Wasn't he an actor?"
Stallone: "Stop! He was President?"
Bullock: "Yes. Even though he was not born in this country, his popularity at the time caused the 61st Amendment…"

After which Stallone scoffs incredulously and looks like he is going to puke. At the time, in 1993, this was a ridiculous joke, the stupidest thing you could imagine. Now, it could turn out to be stunningly prescient...
