Team first attitude, clearly not getting the ball, so what else can he do.

He had an average of 14.4 last year over his 5 games (15, 6, 12, 15, 24). Haven't finished the whole years entries though so I can't post a full season comparison. Would put him just below Edwards' 2018 numbers for rough comparison though.

I'd say no. In general I'd think possession numbers spread out evenly and depend on more than just one player's abilities. If Graham's not picking up the extra 5.7 touches then Lambert, Conca and Edwards will for instance. Besides, Graham plays a lot more wing than people notice so they're not a straight swap.

For the 19 games I've so far compiled from 2017 he's 6th at the club with 17.37 per game. Graham, Morris, Lambert, Dion and Cotch the only ones above him on a per game average.

Really good thread. When we get beaten the pressure looks a bit lower. Or maybe no really super pressure performances.

And some players are really there to stop the opposition - Graham especially.

Awesome, this would be one of the 1st things shown on monday morning & Astbury's goal keeper like goal save also. It's amazing how the "media experts" tend to miss this kind of stuff when analysing a teams effort etc. For example Graham has played 15 games in his career so for him to be doing this kind of stuff shows how great our culture is etc.

Graham is from SA ,no way he'll get rested when we are playing in his home state

10/22 premiership players are down on last year with 12 up. Whole team acts per game are up from 13.72 to 13.91.

This isnt a very good stat though as it doesn't show it in relative terms as the pressure "rating" does.

Miles debuts with a slight improvement on last year's average (17 vs 14.4) which sees him slot into 9th on the team ranking. Seems to have been a trend that a player with a poor offensive game turns in a blinder defensively and Butler is just another point on that trend this week. Pressure may be on Menadue this week, he had a poor game on both sides of the ledger. Conca nabs a gold and jumps to fourth.

I want to take this opportunity to defend Conca, using this thread as my own little soapbox for a second. He's not going to be dropped, he shouldn't be dropped. We should be singing his praises. He's not only gotten healthy and played 12 straight games, he's done it while moving positions and becoming a genuine inside mid for the first time in more than 5 years for him. It's astounding to me that he gets called to be dropped after 9 tackles and 20+ disposals. I'll admit his stats have him playing a slightly better game than my eye saw but even the most inattentive viewer can tell that's a great game, not a shit one. He's clearly a defensive star, leads the club in total tackles and is now 4th in average pressure acts. I know his disposal isn't particularly slick, but it's definitely made out to be worse than it is because he has more out-and-out shocking turnovers.

Take a look at Richmond midfielders compared for efficiency and clearance stats on StatsPro here:
Key: Disposals, Disposal Efficiency, Kicking Efficiency, Kick:Handball ratio, Contested Possessions, Turnovers, Centre clearances, Clearances, tackles.

His total turnovers (sorted column - fourth from right) is poor, but on par with Cotch, Dusty and Grigg (admittedly wins a few less disposals a game). His Kicking Efficency (KE - third column) is better than Cotch, Dusty, Caddy and Prestia.

He's not a star we all know that, but only Cotchin and Lambert provide the same contribution on both sides of the ball.

Thanks Nim, but using logic is against the rules of BF. You need to be emotive and irrational and make unbalanced and unsupported definitive statements.

I know from last year that butler/Castagna said they were rated more on these stats than the normal disposals and goals etc.
I have to say from Fridays game, I wonder if these pressure acts are misleading in what a player does on the ground.
I'm getting a bit frustrated with Butler. I know these Pressure act can go a bit unnoticed in gerneral play, but what I see with him is a lack of commitment to contest the ball when it is there to be won. I think this can then mean the opposition has won possession of the ball ahead of Butler and he is then applying pressure. I would much prefer someone in the team that puts more effort into winning the ball first, then applying the pressure later if they lose out.
I actually think looking at it this way might put Jack Higgins in front of Butler. It would be interesting to compare their contested possessions. Based on this, if Rioli is to replace either of these two this week, I would prefer it to be Butler. Get him to go back to the VFL and work on his contested possessions.

Edit - A quick check shows that Higgo is getting about 2.6 more contested possessions per game and averaging about 2 more possessions a game while playing 10% less game time.

It's such a regular occurrence that I'm certain he must be coached to do that. Maybe it's a case of play to your strengths, tackling is your priority and winning the ball is someone else's. I suppose if you're a shit ball-winner then tackling or corralling produces a better outcome or at least a neutral result more often then picking it up would. Whereas competing for the ball would see you lose a decent share. Maybe the holdup break even is a better outcome in that case. Playing for a draw rather than a win, as it were.
