I reckon we need him to break lines v Sydney.

They are slow and his pace will be immense off half back

We are the highest scoring team in the comp, we don't need him to be we want him to be. IMO his defensive work will be more important than his attacking work.

Sure peak Hunt helps anyone but if we can defend well we will score enough reguardless of his attacking output

Look, our midfield is way better. As long as we make the most of our forward chances it won't matter how many buddy kicks, we should still win. IF we convert our forward 50 entries...
Our big problem is we dominate inside 50's but don't make the most of our forward chances. We seem to dominate inside 50's against most teams but don't use it effectively and then we drop the game. The Port game especially. Need to make sure we convert this week.

Hopefully Hunt is in, I think people have forgotten how good he is in contested situations, generally manages to at least halve the contest.

To be honest I thought his defensive work was lacking when he played this year. Normally I trust him to do wel in that area but he looked really flat and missed a lot of tackles.

Hunt's early year was poor, we need to reset the clock here.

Yeah that was the most disappointing thing about his early form. His disposal has always been hit and miss, and he was never always going to be able to break the line and go on a run, but his defending should have been a non-negotiable week after week, and I think that was why he was dropped. You look at Harmes and ANB's early form, they weren't having the output that they were later the year before, or what they're having now, but their pressure and work rate was still there, which is why I think they were left in the team to find form. If Hunt is back, which I think he will be, I'm choosing to think that it'll be because he's got those defensive efforts back.

Bold changes here. Well done Goody. Defensive restructure makes perfect sense. Expecting Pedo will do a fair bit of rucking, and will spend some time up the ground.

Yea, happy we are playing Hunt now even if he is a bit underdone, he's a massive XFactor for us if he can get back into something resembling his best form by finals time.

(dont punish me for mentioning finals please god)

Changes make sense.

But i am worried about how unsettled our back line is. i think we will concede some big scores in the next 3 weeks and it will all depend on if we can match them and find an extra goal or two than our opposition.

Pedo coming in does surprise me a bit though, pretty sure he plays in defence are we all?
Yep, will take Smith’s role as an intercept/third-up defender. Been playing the role well in the VFL, and without Hibberd/Lever/Smith we’re out of other viable options.

Me too. Our defence has room for improvement full stop, let alone when it’s a mixed group covering on injuries - doesn’t look like a premiership winning defence in any way. So I’m hoping our attack is sufficient to scrape us into finals this year, just because I’m bored with never even making it that far. Then hopefully a spot of preseason focus - drafting / trading / structure whatever to make a priority of strengthening our defence (including strong depth) so we can be a proper, grown up team for 2019.

Changed my mind on Bernie, I actually think we should retire him.

Interested to see if Gawn actually plays with Pedo in, are we trying to stretch the swans down back? Allir allir is a brilliant intercept player but his 1v1 work is worse than OMacs, and I don’t feel worried if Alex Johnson is taking any of Hogan/TMac/Trac/Pedersen.

Will definitely applaud AJ's first touch, but yeah I suspect TMac and Hogan will be extra mobile to try and stretch him and Aliir. Can't see Johnson being able to follow them up the wing, but I said the same about Dunn and Scharenberg and they blitzed us.

It will be interesting to see how they play Pederson, he will play ruck but will this mean Gawn spends less time on the ground. Will pedo play down back or up forward?

Vince’s one on one defending wasn’t great last week but didn’t matter because of the scoreboard. He would be exposed against a Heywood/Ronke type this week.

Well with Pederson perhaps they intend to play him on Franklin, and leave the other defensive structures in place.

Glad Hunt is back in he needs to be playing in the top end for development.

Who was matching up on Sexton the majority of last week? Can’t recall but if it was Bernie changes make perfect sense....

Unlikely, goody flagged in his mid week presser that frost will start on franklin. If pedo plays back he will be peeling off his opponent to chop out frost

Bernie was on him at times, Jones was on sexton early
