Why would we go with 1 KPD again ?? Against a more dangerous forwardline ??

I think Pedlar is probably the best equipped small forward we have left (excluding Rankine) until Rachelle is back fit again, but he isn’t exactly knocking down the door at SANFL level ATM.
What about Laird?
Laird has an ability to get his hands on the ground ball.
He can't hit a target by foot over ten metres so maybe he can kick it between the sticks?

He was decent 2 years ago but mainly playing as a defensive forward. Feel like that's not what we're missing. He's also a shadow of that 2023 player right now.

Already arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic ... we've played 5 games. The soft underbelly exposed at the first real hurdle, again.

Watch the response, we will all recognise it. "That's not us" "We back our system in" "No need for wholesale changes, we do a lot right." "Small tweaks at the edges."

No, that is us ... and without a complete change in thinking this rebuild will fall short and back into the mid-table nightmare we go. We, as a club, are so bad at thinking that we know best even when the proof is slapping us in the face that actually we are NOT on the right path to a premiership. We are on the path to mediocrity at best.

My only hopeful thoughts are around Balme and Davis seeing the problem and removing it before it kills us.

Geelong left out the best defender of his type in the league because he had gastro - replaced an ESSENTIAL role with a young player that had already been exposed to the level and knew how to work within a system that delivers success.

We over-estimate our best 22's ability to adjust and to perform under real stress, under-estimate our youth's ability to perform in the pivotal roles and positions, get too bogged down in stats based decision making to ever really make a proactive on-the-go change.

We are pretenders, we as supporters love to hear how we are destined for top 4, a real chance to get into the premiership discussion ... it's all hot air. We can't do it at home against decent opposition, how do we expect to trust our players under the heat of a final at the MCG or the Gabba? Not. Going. To. Happen.

It must be so hard for our players to see other clubs just race past us time and time again.

I'm sadly back into the position of hoping we keep getting found out, the sooner the better so that we can fire this coaching group.

Maybe 2027 is our year???? Nice round 30 years since our last premiership. Wooooo hooooo!!!

I don't agree that we will be arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Even though Nicks will handicap us forever, we still need to work towards a proper elite best 22 for the next coach to inherit

Earlier I listed five players we need to move on (O'Brien, Milera, Laird, Crouch and Sholl). I strongly believe we have the players on the list to fit into those roles - or at least there are players to try in those roles

Out: O'Brien, Sholl, Crouch, Taylor (sub)
In: McAndrew, Butts, Taylor, Pedlar (sub)

O'Brien minimum one month in the SANFL and I don't give a **** if he has 70 hitouts and 40 disposals a game. He is dog shit.

Nankervis to replace Sholl on the wing. Butts in to fix Nicks stuffing our defensive structure for no reason.

Crouch makes our midfield worse. Bring on the dislikes.
Nothing there to dislike from me.
One further change:
OUT Nicks IN Davis, now-now-right-now, this week.

Top 4 and premiership contenders? Our core list is still very young, we are a few years from being top 4 and premiership contenders so yes 2027 is our year lol

So, so much this.

Great post, insightful comments re Stewart and our experience/youth.

Tried his guts out. Just absolutely exhausted!
I agree.
The mistakes he made last night were very un-Hinged.
The passage where he kicked a goal (point) for them then into the man on the mark was a sign of exhausted confusion. Horrible.
He's a better player than last night, no thanks to our Coaching Staff for not coming up with plans to not have exhausted players from Round 4 into Round 5.

Out: rob, laird, m.crouch, sholl, cummings, worrell, keane, neal-bullen, hinge and maybe keays
You mean the Keays that kicked 3 goals from 18 disposals and 6 marks last night and ran both ways at full bore all night?
Your reason --- Keays did not 'crumb' well --- carries no weight.
His role is not to crumb; it's to do exactly what he did.

Out: Sholl, Draper
In: Murray, Taylor

Draper to the bench. Is being asked to play that small forward role and looks a little lost.

Move Nank to the wing.

Taylor deserves a start but not sure who makes way if not Draper. Only 36% game time but really made it count, 8 disposals, 3 tackles and a goal.

The major change we need is Nicks out. Just pull the bandaid off now and get Murray to take over for the rest of the year. If he does well he gets the job, if not we go hard for Longmire.

I know it's going to be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think Dawson should attend as many centre bounces as he does. He has the highest CBA attendance of any of our midfielders (excepting ROB), but doesn't seem as effective as other options in that role. He hasn't got breakaway speed (he has a high cruising speed, but not great acceleration), he hasn't got elite hands for one touch takes and he hasn't got the agility to step around people or provide great defensive efforts when the opposition gets that ball. He's not a bull who bursts through tackles and his disposal under pressure isn't great. Put him in the middle with Crouch and you have two players who lack real agility.

Dawson's strengths are his ability to accumulate, his overhead marking, his disposal when out in the open, his gut running and willingness to put his body on the line to impact a contest. You certainly want him running through the middle to link up and set up play, but he could do this from a wing or half back. Personally, I'd drop his CBA attendances from the current 80% to maybe 50%, and avoid having him and Crouch in the middle together unless we're totally pantsing an opposition.

According to one poster we had 1 inside 50 tackle for the entire night, which seems impossible, but no wonder it bounced right out of there and Geelong kicked to our unprepared/unaccountable defence. That's his job imo to keep the forward pressure not kick goals they're just a bonus.

Worrell's defensive work hasn't really come on. He's always been a good 3rd tall/interceptor but I thought he'd round out his game and be able to defend genuine key forwards by now. Even the fact that he wasn't considered for the Jeremy Cameron role is a worry.

He panics and holds in marking contests.
