How is what I said rubbish? The poster said that having Cumming / Dawson on the wing would mean we have two elite wingers.

I said Cumming wasn't elite. You then said it's rubbish and he is a quiet achiever. Didn't know quiet achievers could be considered elite.

Sure he did a few nice things. He is a beautiful kick and uses the ball well (which he should since the majority of his touches are uncontested possessions).

Look there is a long way to go with Cumming. It's just we gave a massive 6 year deal to a 'quiet achiever' who is 27 and his two best seasons were when he was played across half back (not the wing).

Miles ahead of Sholl so far? I don't think so. I think Cumming is much better defensively, but with ball in hand they have been almost identical

But your point about wingers not performing is really valid. We haven't had anyone dominate on a wing since Seedsman in 2021.

Which I guess makes it a very apt discussion point:

Seedsman in 2021 - 26 touches, 72.6% DE, 600 metres gained, 5.7 I50's, 2.8 R50's.

Cumming in 2025 - 14 touches, 73.6% DE, 266 metres gained, 1.8 I50's, 1.4 R50's.

The deeper question is why we are giving out massive 6 year contracts to lure players that play in positions that our gameplan doesn't value.

I would hope we're giving out those contracts in anticipation of a new coach needing quality players in all positions

Given Nicks is an idiot I'm not sure list management listening to how he wants to build a side is a good idea

I'm fact given we've delisted and traded players Nicks played all year in the 22 it seems they operate with a different agenda and are trying their best to just get good players

Fair. And despite the usual suspects rushing in to defend Cumming on BRL121's post, I am glad we got him.

Think he is a great addition, was happy to give him a long contract and think he is, obviously, best 22. Just have been very very underwhelmed through the first 5 games. Has done some nice things, but so has almost every player that has played so far this year.

Score involvements mean jack shit IMO.

I would prefer to have Witts on our team, but Witts v ROB wasn't the difference.
We controlled the game when RT Rucked.
Suns got back into it when RoB Rucked.

The main issue with RoB is that we are essentially one man down in field play. And his tap work is not good enough to carry that.

Our midfield is far more dynamic when RT Rucks.

We need to get a mobile Ruckman to compliment our midfield. This is an area of improvement, if we want to take the next step.

Straune is Temu RoB.

Haven't seen enough of McAndrew, but he needs a go.

Thats because TT primarily went up against Read.

Not against replacing ROB. In fact would prefer it at the end of the year to clear up some salary cap space by having McAndrew and a couple other cheap rucks.

I wouldn't mind McAndrew getting a few games. Also think we need to get one in during the mid season draft just to have them train with us.

Reality is that not every gun half back is a good wingman. Looking like Cumming is further proof of that.

You can’t be serious. Davis has been there for 5 games ffs 🤦
I had similar thought about Pepsi Nuts too. Yet here we are.
Clap and cheer all you want. We still lack problem solvers in the box IMO.

Our team selection continues to be dogshit as pointed out by many others.
What did we do to counter Geelongs countering of the tall timber.
We took off our road runner just after half time.
The song remains the same.

What did you see that warranted a hearty clap and cheer?
I saw failure point blank.

Zero contested marks in five games if the stats are correct. That is about as bad as it gets.
Averaging only 2 a game. Just a liability right now.

I thought we got him to play half back to be honest. I would have had Curtin on the wing and Cumming back instead of Milera/Laird. Our genius coach has other ideas

Agree with all your frustrations, I just don’t think you can jump to Davis being a problem. 12 years in a successful system at the lions with many players on record saying he was a key part of the success. Dropping Murphy was a positive sign but it is the head coaches final say on selection so Murray needs to influence, not take over . I do think Davis is influencing things (Murphy would never have been dropped if left to Dunderhead Nicks ) but David is not the head coach so can’t do what he wants without working with nicks . Part of our issue with selection this week was we really have no depth in KPDs. I blame list management for this. Nicks does need to go though if we want to be successful in the long run. A very average coach

I'm not draw and quartering him yet, just putting it out there that I'm not sold yet. I do hope that he gets more authority sooner than later, because Pepsi Nuts and his merry men (Curly, Larry and Mo) in the box are not the answer.

If it was me and ignoring Peatling suspension;

Out Laird in Bond or Jones
Out Milera in Butts
Out ROB in McAndrew
Out Crouch in Taylor
Out Sholl (Curtin to wing) in Dowling
Sub Jones, Schoey or Pedlar

Assuming there is an unforced change, I'd bet at evens it'd be Sholl out and Taylor in and a new sub. Or Curtin or Draper to sub.

How do you score without score involvements?

And we lost by 1 point, a player who had 8 v 0 clearly has had an impact in the win, that’s just a fact.

Plus he had 3 x the number of possessions.

How do you grade score involvements? It's a nothing stat. You can get a shitty backward handball that someone else does all the work and you get a SI.

I thought Rob had a positive influence through his ruck work. Didn't think Witts possessions were damaging.

Really what I want to see is nicks sacked and replaced by Davis

What was it someone close to Nicks supposedly said? "He's the most stubborn guy I've met" or words to that effect.

We really think Davis is going to be able to walk in the place and have Nicks change his mind on every single idea he's had?

Out:
Peatling (susp), O’Brien, Sholl

In:
N Murray, McAndrew, Dowling

Sub:
Draper

Emg:
Butts, Ryan, Edwards

Notes:
1) If Murray doesn’t get up, Butts replaces him

2) There is no need to drop Keane or Worrell to get one of Butts or Murray into the side. We dropped Borlase and replaced him with Nankervis against a smaller and more nimble than average forward line. The combination of Nank and Dowling can take Sholl’s wing spot. We need an extra big back there who can actually defend.

3) Milera only survives because I thought we legitimately had 14-15 guys who played worse than him against Geelong.

4) I can’t believe I’m typing this because I am a huge fan, but Worrell should be pretty close to being dropped. Has been consistently atrocious for a month.

5) Crouch would want to actually turn up next week or he will find himself under the microscope.

6) Probably an unpopular opinion, but I don’t see a future at the club for Pedlar. His disposal is as bad as anyone I can recall, he is made of glass and his position has been taken by ANB.

7) Z Taylor must start in the 22.

8) If Murphy comes in for Peatling I’m just straight up not watching the game.
Don’t mind most of this but no to Draper being sub . He starts
