Gold Coast v Richmond at Metricon Stadium, 4.10pm AEST

  • The Suns have had two weeks to celebrate their first win in two years, but now need to take that momentum into another match. The maturity and game awareness Gold Coast showed in its last-quarter burst against West Coast was impressive, but this is something the side needs to find more consistently throughout games. Lowering eyes when going inside 50, slowing the game down when it gets too hot to control and drawing opponents out of space to create leading lanes for teammates, this was all prevalent in that final-quarter victory.
  • Richmond is a better side than its 1-2 record suggests, kicking two of its three highest scores so far this season. The Tigers have been one of the most efficient sides in attack this year, not just when it comes to creating shots on goal, but converting those shots, going at 74.2 per cent in front of goal. At the other end of the ground, the backline faces the challenge of covering Harriet Cordner, who suffered an ACL injury last weekend.
  • Tip: Gold Coast will be looking for its first back-to-back wins in its history, but Richmond will prove too strong. Richmond by 23 points.

Gold Coast Suns vs Richmond
The final official match of Round 3 takes us to the holiday strip where the Gold Coast Suns and Richmond will both be seeking a second win of the season at Metricon Stadium.

Widely tipped to again struggle this year, the Suns go into this match off the back of an unofficial bye due to its QClash being postponed; they will instead face the Western Bulldogs at a time and date to be determined.

Beforehand, they split their opening two matches, losing to the GWS Giants at home before ending a near-two year barren run with a come-from-behind victory against the West Coast Eagles in Melbourne.

Richmond, meanwhile, enjoyed a strong win against St Kilda in the opening match of the season in Round 1 but have since dropped their last two matches, albeit against strong opposition in Melbourne and Fremantle, both at their spiritual home Punt Road Oval.

Despite the best efforts of Monique Conti, who collected 22 disposals and laid four tackles, the Tigers crashed to their second straight loss, going down by five goals after trailing by just ten points at the last change of ends.

She was also best on ground in the corresponding match last year, when she collected 25 disposals on her return from a hamstring injury, so the Tigers will be relying on another big-numbers performance from her if they are to collect their second win of the season.

After two losses, expect the Tigers to hit back against a match-starved Suns side on the Gold Coast.

Prediction: Richmond by 11 points.

For those lucky enough to get to the game.

Great to have Lavey…not sure if it’s a replay but I’m watching her on the abc playing for Bendigo wnbl.
Commentators saying she’s just come back from covid protocols so if not tonight it’s recent.

They also mentioned the Opal BB team are starting a camp next month for international stuff.
Hope we don’t lose her

She shot the last two 3 pointers for her team…she’s a jet

Yep it’s live from Ballarat.

Think leaving out Hannah Burchell is the right call.

Lavey missing last week saved her last week.

Hopefully can get rid of some of those errors.

Gabby Seymour will almost be the lone hand in the ruck (thank god for 16m quarters). Sarah D’Arcy might give her a chop out here and there.

Bella at 188cm will probably win the hit outs but Gabby will be another mid after that.

Go Ash Barty!

good to have Lavey back…shame about Harriett

Agree - except Sansonetti is in and I'm not sure that is any sort of upgrade. Would Hannah struggle to travel in these times with here job maybe?

Sansonetti is cover for Cordiner/McClelland I would say.

Hannah did miss last years R7 Gold Coast game. It was a Friday night game and I think we may have travelled up there the day before. Hannah was “managed” as she had work commitments.

This time it’s “omitted” suggesting it’s a form issue.

Yeah, saw it said omitted, but those are sometimes a touch inaccurate and could even be combination of both - a soft message even. Sansonetti has a lot of work to do to be cover for anyone unfortunately, least of all those two. I was a big supporter of her early games but something has been lost, or simply she has peaked with her skilset and the game has moved on. That said I really hope she finds her intensity again, which is less about skillset and more about approach.

Sansonetti is a solid player but has just had a lack of opportunities. It’s a hard gig being out of the side without any other footy being played. Very difficult to be in form when you do get that chance.

You are admired for your generosity of spirit.......
