Your forgetting every club overlooked these players in the actual draft? Including Richmond?

Hardly something to scoff at.

Especially when the next year you guys took Thursfield over Morris, O'Brien, Pearce, Crowley and surprise, Drummond ;)

I guess it was about time Richmond actually made a good choice in a draft though, still Foley won't help you outweigh Tambling decision.

Thursfield is better than Morris(3 years older than Will BTW), O'Brien(Only a No.2 or No.3 backman), Crowley(Delisted once by Fremantle) and Drummond.

He probably wouldn't be better than Pearce but then we wouldn't have a backline if we didn't pick him up, so it evens out.

5 of the 8 players you just named were picked by Melbourne!

We did well out of that rookie draft!

WTF, what's wrong with Thursty played nearly every match for us this year and is in our starting 22 as FB. Ownly Pearce is better than him but as HBK said who would we have to play FB if he wasn't there???

Thanks for the link Macca. There has been some real gold found in the rookie list. A lot of what appears to be late speculative picks prove to be very productive.

Moral of the story you gotta be in it to win it.

It's really suprising to see some of the talent that has come out of the rookie drafts.
2004:Danyle Pearce, Josh Drummond, Ryan Crowley, Clinton Young, Dale Morris, Will Thursfield, Aaron Edwards
2003:Nathan Foley, Andrew Carrazzo, Aaron Davey, Brett Jones, Daniel Pratt, Nathan Lovett-Murray, Andrew Lovett, Josh Drummond, Setanta O'hAilpin, Michael Rix
2002: Brad Sewell, Michael Firrito, Nick Maxwell, Daniel Pratt, Joel Patfull, Shannon Byrnes, Jason Roe, Jason Porplytzia, Courtney Johns, Mark Nicoski, Daniel Gilmore, Steven Dodd, Nathan Carroll, Paul Bevan
2001: Andrew Carrazzo, Mark Jamar, Bret Thornton, Quienten Lynch, Matthew Boyd, Nahan Bock, Aaron Sandilands, Brad Miller, Ben Rutten, Martin Mattner
Going by who still consistently gets a game at AFL level
Please excuse me if I missed anybody
It is a very interesting list, and just goes to show the importance of good and sometimes even lucky drafting
You could easily argue the case that some of these lists from the rookie drafts are as good as those from the national drafts.
gonna be interesting to see who turns out well from the recent rookie drafts.

You'd have to say West Coast are the kings of the rookie list. The following West Coast players are on the main list after graduating from the rookie list....

Matthew Priddis 2006
Jamie Graham 2005
Steven Armstrong 2005
Brett Jones 2004
Mark Nicoski 2003
Quentin Lynch 2002
Dean Cox 2000
Chad Fletcher 1998

must also mention Chad Jones and Jamie McNamara this year....

That's about 1/4 of the main list.....
