So Freo throw Hill in the middle and he runs off Priddis time after time .....

We were diabolical and frankly other teams are letting Rosa and Priddis be our link up players because they dont hurt with their disposal.

But some will wax lyrical about in and under etc etc ....

On the game proper, that was possibly the worst example of poor kicking into the forward line and poor kicking at goal in our clubs history - just terrible.

Yep, right on all counts. If either get votes.. well its fanclub stuff.

Terrific coaching by Harvey.

We are bottom four side.

Hill was very good. Priddis plays for stats - Not the team really. His skills were poor as well.

Am I stupid or something, Priddis was one of the very few players getting the ball? Who would you replace him with? It's a team of hacks, but Priddis is one of the best ones, get off his back!

Geez you got a hardon against Priddis, let it go.

The game was lost because:

9 20
9 20
9 20
9 20
9 20
9 20
9 20
9 20
9 20
9 20

Thats not Priddis' fault.

I am a big Priddis fan because he is one of the few that will get the hard ball.

But if Hill was his man today then he failed horribly and played a large role in costing us the game

No. You are one of the masses that rate stats over impact.

Peter Matera had an 18 possession GF and won the Norm Smith because of what he did after he got the ball.

Priddis got it 45 times in a game v Hawthorn last year and was almost the Hawks best.

He butchers the ball, makes poor decisions and runs slower than a middle aged jogger. Hill killed us because Freo figured out that while he might get it 10 times, the 3 times his skilled, fast, line breaking opponent gets it will be way more damaging.

Again, I am not saying get rid of him entirely but we must build our starting midfield around others not Priddis.

We flooded the backline, they used counter attacks. Hill is quicker than priddis, hence he had the impact and priddis could not catch him. Priddis was in the thick of things; Hill was on the wing.
It was the matchup that killed us.

Could you please suggest a midfield without Priddis.

Really? Priddis gets clearances, contested possessions and tackles, and lots of them. His work off the ball with shepherding and 1%ers is terrific.
Cheap possession getters sit on the back flank. Priddis is in the thick of thins week in week out.
The criticism of Priddis is that he doesn't use the ball well, not that he is deliberately not having an impact.
I'm not a big priddis fan, but to say he is not a team player and that he plays for cheap stats is simply laughable.

Well, yes and no.... I mean by throwing Hill in for some centre bounces when Kerr, Selwood, Pav & Schammer where the others, Priddis became his matchup. Priddis gets his head over the ball and often gets first hands but Freo just stayed behind the ball and wider, they then pressured the first possession and ran away from us - Hill repeatedly ran off Priddis - this would be fine if Priddis then hurt them going the other way but he doesnt, ever.... he is not a very good AFL player.

We need to build the midfield around different players who hurt the opposition which will free up some pressure on Kerr.

Was disappointing.

As were the other 21 players.

But what is his role?

They lock down on Kerr and Selwood is our only real tagger - that leaves Priddis as our largely untagged, offensive mid. And he is such a non-threat with ball in hand that Freo put a 6 game kid on and told him to just run forward .... and it worked....

He can't tag, he can't hurt in general play and he is a liability defensively. His 8 tackles were his typical inside, stationary contest, stacks on type tackles ... he was no threat to tackle Hill at any stage.

Can we afford to build around him as our 2nd or 3rd mid?

He is an extractor.

Masten offers nothing, Ebert cant get in the side, Butler looks lost, Selwood is tagging. Kerr is buried.

Priddis will remain in the side as our 2nd best mid.

Which puts our club into perspective if you think about it. Not much we can continue to do but wait till his contract expires and say , Hey thanks Mat, catch ya round.

He should never have to look after an opponent.

So he IS therefore an offensive mid.

What happens when Kerr is heavily tagged and Selwood is tagging AND the other team puts a dangerous offensive running player in as their 3rd mid?

I mean if he can't look after an opponent he becomes a massive liability doesnt he?

Selwood is a better offensive mid than Priddis but plays as a tagger because Priddis can't. That weakens our team.

I would rather we find a quick tagger and release Selwood - which has been shown to help Kerr. The midfield in the second half had Selwood on Pav and Schammer on Kerr which left the freer mids as Hill/Hasleby v Priddis/Rosa - how did that work out?

We are seeing Rosa & Priddis leading our stats in losing efforts on a regular basis and people patting them on the back because "well, at least they got it" but they have no hurt factor and today, Priddis in particular was run off over and over again - Hasleby showed what a top line slow, inside mid should do - its a fair bit different to what Priddis offers.
