It begs the question as to what they're looking from the other players.

For instance 5 minutes into the third quarter. Priddis v Wallis.

Cox taps the ball to Dalziell who drops it under no physical pressure, the ball scrounges around and Priddis and Wallis fight for position. Wallis taps the ball to Minson along the ground, now in the seconds following this Priddis barely moves an inch. He ball watches while Wallis gets on his bike running inboard for a handball receive one possession down the chain, he squares the ball to Murphy in the middle who kicks a goal. They're standing side by side and he just lets him off the leash after the 50/50 had been decided.

Priddis got beaten by Wallis in the second half, pretty soundly too. In that article, though, it doesn't say too much more than he has been consistent and worked hard...which he has. He's just consistently not very good and doesn't win games.
 
FWIW.

Priddis is a good AFL player. Not a great one. He would be a good 4th or 5th midfield or even a winger. But he is our No.1 mid.
Considering the other sides boast Judd, Watson, Kennedy, Pendelbury etc etc he doesn't compare. It is why he doesn't get tagged every week because opposition coaches know he is not going to hurt them overly with his 27 possessions.

If we had a big power midfielder, and lets say for example Darling was made our number 1 midfielder alongside Shuey and scooter and Masten, Priddis would actually be a very handy footballer for us.

He is going nowhere because the club loves him but they need to change his role.

Indeed. Even when they are genuine inside players, because they are more outside than Matt (that's everyone with 2 legs) they have to move outside to accommodate him.

Because he can't contribute anywhere else.

The question those who want him retained but only as 4th or 5th mid is what does he do when he isn't starting offensive mid?

I mean he genuinely can't play any other role...
 
I seriously don't know why the MC don't take our collective advice.

We at BF would have the Eagles in the top 4 right now :rolleyes:
 
He's the only "elite" (according to the club) midfielder in the comp that can not play any other position but the midfield (even that is debatable). Mitchell, Swan, Kennedy, Mitchell, etc etc are ALL goal kicking midfielders that can play ANYWHERE and do so very effectively. I just can not fathom how this guy even gets rated at our club, its just absolutely unbelievable. Other clubs pay him credence in public but must absolutely love playing him because all you need to do is add a small amount of pressure, get him to turn it over (easy enough to do with no pressure) then run off him and laugh as he gives up or is just too slow to go with his man (many many examples). It's flipping bullshit.

We need heavy rotations out of the middle, like other team, to sustain the intensity of modern football. The way the game is played you win games by the strength of your midfield and its gauged on their ability to get the hard ball then run and spread but also their ability go the other way (the definition of elite). It's an indictment on the club that they have let the game pass them by and I'm pretty pissed off really. And you know what you can't blame Priddis for that.

So it would seem, according to many on here, that the club has been carrying a DUD in it's midfield for almost 7 years. How can that be??

Stats

The problem is that priddis stacks up in terms of possessions. If you take cousins or Judd for example they used to be about the 25-30 possession mark per game. Priddis is about the same.
His clearances would stack up as well statistically.
But you would never compare priddis to either of those. The issue lies in the quality of possessions and his inability to use those possessions to lift the team or take the game away from the opposition.
Where you would see those two bust through packs in speed and power priddis simply handballs to someone clear or has an ineffectual kick forward.
As I said in a previous post. Priddis is a good afl player but will never be a number 1 midfielder.
For some reason the mc love him and I can't see it as any other reason except stats.
If I lined up all the top midfielders and asked you to pick them in order of preference priddis would be one of the last picked every time.
Even gws has Greene or Sculley that would be picked ahead of him.
My opinion anyway.

i think rosa and scooter are worse kicks than priddis. or at least equally bad.

Spot on.Stats LIE!!!!!SSSSllloooooooww.Doesnt go on to his right foot anywhere enough and racks up stats with half metre handballs.
 
another (rare) opportunity to look at a WCE midfield sans priddis today

will our mids step up, or will they fail miserably like the last (half) game without priddis (ie. the port adelaide debacle)?

Given the other names out, it'll be pretty much impossible to measure just how much better off our midfield is without Priddis. Shame.
