Priddis

Priddis isn't a liability individually, the whole midfield is a liability. All of them have various strengths making their claims to a midfield spot tenable. However as a collective for the last 3 years they haven't been good enough.

Priddis would slip into Collingwood's midfield (replacing Luke Ball) and they wouldn't notice much difference. He'd slot into Freo's midfield replacing Mick Barlow.

The problem is Priddis is our chief banana. That isn't his fault mind you. But a midfield with Priddis as the main midfielder isn't going to be elite.

He should be second string, like Ball is at Collingwood. The guy that comes on and wins clearances and keeps the midfield ticking over whilst the others get a rest. To do that he needs to make himself useful forward of centre when not playing guts.

We have too many forwards/backs who can't run through the guys meaning our midfielders have to shoulder the burden for the entire game.

Take Collingwood as an example, Ball/Swan/Sidebottom/Beams/Blair all spend time in the forward line. About the only one who doesn't is pendlebury.

How often do we see Kerr/Shuey/Priddis/Gaff/Selwood resting forward nowadays? Doesn't happen. Part of the reason is that Lecras, hill, darling can't take over.

Our midfield is a major issue, however it's not just the 6-8 blokes who get the most midfield time, nor is it just Priddis.

Good post which echoes the sentiments of many I reckon.

That said, who is changing things? Woosh ain't, so it seems our only chance of resolution starts with changing Woosh.

Has to be odds on to happen at the end of the season, you'd think.

This is true, we have a general lack of flexibility around the ground in multiple positions. Some are becasue the player is so good in that position that you just don't move them JK (in saying that he still varies his game based on how we are travelling during the game) & Glass etc.
But how many players can lay that claim to a position?
Geelong have JSelwood, Johnson, Corey, Stokes, Christensen & Bartel all take breaks forward Hawthorn are the same with Lewis, Breust, Rioli, Hodge, Puoppolo. They all go forward / mid (some back) and have an impact.

And we argue for several years over Lecras, 1 of our best forwards spending time in the middle.

I don't think Woosha will be there next year.

The thing that gets me is Woosha has made a coaching career on backing youth & run.

When he came to the club in 2002 he didn't play the deadwood that was brought in under Judge's tenure. He played all the kids and basically said "run". It worked, we went from 2nd last to 8th.

Then in 2010 against shrieks of tanking, he continued playing Selwood, Schofield, Shuey and was even laughed at for saying good times were ahead.

Its what makes his 2013 decisions on someone like Adam Selwood so strange, continually playing him ahead of someone like Carter who has surprised us all I think.

We need a drastic change in our structure, guys like Hurn/Waters/LeCras/Darling will need to step up and play midfield minutes. Guys like Priddis/Embley/Kerr will need to find themselves useful in other parts of the ground for large minutes or find themselves out of the side.

I don't subscribe that we need leg speed. On average I reckon our main midfield protagonists are quicker than Hawthorn as an example, but we lack fitness and depth leading to sloppy mistakes and chasing tail which makes you look slow.

is it legal to have one person collect the ball and then the other players to form a ring around them with their hands and bodies so we can take the ball to the goal square for a goal?

The old "up the jumper ploy"? Was used (successfully) in rugby union years ago, and was subsequently banned from that sport. I doubt that it would work in AFL.

Sounds like the Flying V which I believe has been outlawed in ice hockey, despite what the Mighty Ducks movies would have you believe :D

They tried something like that in Union as well (same coach, New South Wales Country rep team) and had it banned. I believe that it was also banned MANY years ago from American Football, because if someone at the front or in the middle fell down there was just too much danger of serious injury.

Yeah, but this would be the flying "O" which is a completely different letter

Priddis picks up a vote in the AFL coaches award again in the Sydney game. How inconvenient for the Priddis Hate League. Now you can slink away and wait for the next occasion you think he might have put in a bad one. Or just put it down to Woosha being a muppet...

He polls consistently in the coaches award. But you blokes know more than the coaches right?

But he doesn't poll against the good teams you say. Oh hang on, he polled top votes against Essendon??! Oh well, Hird's a muppet too then...

Great post Falcon Strike. I think that's pretty much the way most rational supporters feel on the subject.

Calling in The Moderators... shut down Bigfooty because no one here has any right to dare question our Coaching Muppets.

Lets look at some of these Coaching Moments of brilliance?

Flogging Judd into the ground when he should have gone into surgery. Was a liability in the team. Never recovered from that.
Refusal to put a spare man in defence in 05 / 06 despite every supporter and media demanding it.... until the 06 GF with Wirrpanda.
Playing A.Selwood this year
Playing an injured Nic Nat this year.
Tactically a thick headed ***** on match day
A stubborn mule that does not admit he's wrong despite the evidence in front of him
Bringing back a non-fit Shuey this week
Playing Dailziell, a accumulator, in the sub role
Playing Tunbridge and Morton for 20 minutes as a sub.
For over-rating this list and saying we are in Premiership mode
For backing the wrong midfield horse, chief of them being Priddis

Care to take a moment to reflect?

You would note that in light of the quoted article, much earlier today, that there were those of us stating that he'd get a vote. In light of said article we now have no doubt who from...

We can win a flag with Priddis in the side.

Even more unfortunately around the ground Priddis is a liability and offsets the benefits he brings to the table by missing targets and stagnating our run by being so slow (both in decision making and actual pace). The sooner we can replace him the better off we'll be.

This is also true with Daniel Kerr. One of the better stoppage players still, but too slow to have any impact across the ground

With you.

Absolutley disgusted with some of the complete rubbish that gets shot around by some on here. Of course these boards are to discuss the rights and wrongs and the direction of the team. But quite frankly im embarrassed by some of our fans. Some of the arm chair critics who just have completely no respect for club legends (eg. above woosha joke) is not good enough. We can all have our logical opinions on whether woosha should continue, but when he leaves we should be giving him a big F#$%ing thank you.

Agreed he's a legend of the club. Perhaps an error of judgement on my part given the views of some that he's somehow infallible. He isn't. And this year more than most.

I agree he deserves a big pat on the back but those who confuse greatness with flawlessness or anything close to that need to grow up ....

We happily discuss the implied off field misdemeanors of players, potential draftees and others and we do that in the context of impact on the club, potential impact on the club and impact on players and the group as a whole. But we aren't able to raise that as a potential issue with the clubs leader? With the bloke whose strongest trait has been fierce loyalty and commitment?

Sure it was probably initially raised in a petulant way but as someone who has known Woosh since he was 20 this has been out of character and is likely not helping him at his place of work... Perhaps not but its worth discussing ...

Now get off that high horse and open both eyes

Eagle87 I suspect you know more than most, certainly more than I do, about what is happening in worsfolds life outside of football. My main interest is the impact those issues are having on his work as coach of the club and if the rumours are true it can't be easy - coaching an AFL team would be a stressful job and troubles away from the club wouldn't help

My guess it might be better for worsfold and club all round if they make a fresh start
