Surprised we got the federal grant. I know one of the people involved in the deal to get us the 20 mill state grant and asked the question regarding the 20 mill federal grant and was told unlikely.
An absolute bonus, even if it is 5 mill less. Happy days.

Well $35 million seems like it would get a fair bit of redevelopment.

What is the plan ? What will the money be used for ?
Cleaning the toilets. Might still be a little short of what is needed

$15m pledged, only if they get re-elected, which is highly unlikely. Whereas the Brisbane AFLW hq/training facility which the government has already comitted the money ($15m) to last week, even if they lose the election the grant has been secured.

So for us, $0 from the current gov (based on the bloodbath this election will be), and $20m from the incoming Shorten labor government to match the $20m from the Andrews labor government, otherwise the deal fall though as Vicgov were hoping to make it a 50/50 contribution with the federal level.

Now we just need a $5-10m donation to the club from both Jeanne Pratt and from Craig Mathieson to earn their place on the board for a nice tidy $50-55m redevelopment with no reduction in capacity.

$20M has been promised by state Labor, there are plans online. The club has been pushing for the federal government to match the offer. Its believed that Federal labor will match the bid. If not we have $20M.

The money is for upgrades to train facilities, viewing facilities and is largely down to Ikon Park being the AFLs preferred venue for AFLW. No plans for it to be used for premiership points again.

Unless we get some crazy rich person to fund a redevelopment privately.

Its great for the club even though i think they are knocking down the wrong grandstand to do it.

Amazon Stadium you reckon’?

I thought Diesel was involved in a printing business, with Sticks & Braddles.

Carlton secretly paid star player Greg Williams $200,000 by funnelling money through a construction company to beat the AFL salary cap, according to a report yesterday.

The payments, made between 1993 and 1995, were authorised by Carlton chiefs Ian Collins and James Sutherland as ground maintenance, although no work was done, Melbourne's Herald Sunreported yesterday.

Not sure what you really mean when you ask, what will it mean for the club. You listed the upgrades in your post.

Dear Aph (real name redacted) :tonguewink:

I write to you today with the exciting news that the Liberal Nationals Government will be committing $15M to the redevelopment of Ikon Park, cementing the facility as Melbourne’s home of AFLW.

This significant investment will allow the Club the opportunity to support the increase in demand to service the Club’s combined football programs and the wider community, with opportunities available to inspire and develop the next generation of female sporting talent.

We are thrilled by the support received from the Liberal Nationals Government and we sincerely thank the Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the Liberal Nationals Government, for their commitment of $15M. This investment, in addition to the $20M provided by the Daniel Andrews State government, will consolidate Ikon Park as the home of women’s football and the long-term base of the Carlton Football Club.

Not only is this investment fantastic for AFLW, but also for the greater community. The investment made by both State and Federal governments will now make further pathways possible for girls and young women who want to play football at the highest level.

With the expansion of the AFLW competition and growth in female participation numbers increasing, providing elite facilities in the heart of Melbourne is essential to growing Carlton and the game of AFL.

Our new integrated facilities will provide all of our athletes across AFLW, AFL, VFLW and VFL the same professional experiences and opportunities.

As part of the Masterplan, the Club will also further develop the education facilities which currently house the Carlton College of Sport, providing a range of education experiences to female athletes, coaches and the wider community. Football administration facilities will also be expanded to allow for the continued growth of female football and the broader Carlton Football Club.

Most importantly, Ikon Park will be developed to provide upgraded match-day facilities including lights to broadcast standard, new player change-room facilities and a range of further upgrades that will greatly enhance the supporter experience, ensuring that attendance at all games continues to increase, with seating capacity at the ground to remain around 18,000 – 20,000 people.

The redevelopment process commenced with the surface upgrade completed in 2018, undertaken by the Club at a cost in excess of $2M.

We will now progress to finalise plans with construction anticipated to commence in 2020. We will continue to update you with the progress of the redevelopment in due course.

Go Blues!

Not to throw salt. But I have to say the constant mention of the "Liberal National Government" and reference to Daniel Andrews and not the Labor Party. Is extremely inappropriate for mine. Using the club to support your political alignment is very dissapointing.
